Here is some interesting trivia on Masakazu Tamura. When Raizo Ichikawa died, Daiei tried frantically to find a replacement. They found Hiroki Matsukata who then did two films as Nemuri. The interesting trivia is that Mr. Tamura appeared in one of those two films but as an ENEMY of Nemuri. It was then that a producer noticed Tamura and felt he would be good as Nemuri, so the result is this film you see here.
Ultimately, it didn't save Daiei Film, a giant in the industry that produced Rashoman, Ugetsu, Sanjo The Bailliff, Gates of Hell, the Zatoichi series and many more. They never really found a suitable box-office replacement for Raizo Ichikawa and went into bankrupcy in 1971. It's a shame Ichikawa died so young. If he had lived into his 70's, we could be watching "Shinobi no Mono 137: Wheelchair Ninja" or "Sleepy Eyes of Death 119: Grandfather's Sword of Doom".
WOW!! I absolutely Found this Video, to be a Great Movie. To show a Man of Integrity, and Honor! Sadly today We do not see that kind of Man anymore! To me a Samari, isn't only about Katanas', and Martial Arts! It is about an Ideal to Serve with living an Honorable Life! Please do not get me Wrong, about the training of a Samari, their Ability to fight is Legendary! Japanese Culture in it's purest form is Amazing, and Admirable! Thank You for this Video! The Actors were Terrific!
I love watching Masakazu Tamura as Nemuri Kyoshiro. As an actor, he seems to have a genuine noble aura about him. There was another Nemuri movie called "The man with no tomorrow" on UA-cam sometime ago. A pity it's no longer available.
Nemuri Kyoshiro was one of my favorite anti-hero samurai characters, and Masakazu Tamura in this film and the other four made-for-TV films was a worthy successor to Ichikawa Raizo.
What a beautiful movie.I finish watching it from start to end. Now,I can say that the writer who created this a good person. He portrayed the good character, dicipline, and principle of a true warrior.
Kyoshiro Nemuri atones for all the sins h has ever comitted throughout his life by saving the mother and the son and saving the Shogun and leaving the mother though he loves her for the sake of the well-being of the son and goes off to join Zatoichi into the clear blue yonder!
This 1998 episode titled "The Woman Who Loved Kyoshiro" in the 5 part series. It was 20 years later that Tamura made the next and final episode. Three years later he died of a heart attack.
This samurai is just like James Bond. Makes dead people, every new episode a new beautiful woman, love and death, and then freedom and the path to new corpses and women)))
"I'm a monster, and rape freely at will. I take what I want." Tamura's Nemuri Kyoshiro is different in motivation and practice in every metric from Raizo Ichikawa's 'Son of Satan' mode. His ' I was born under a bad star' is such a subtle change, it's very tasteful.
Good to see this Senseii video. The stop, start, time & place on the steps.Sword strokes moving thru. the tree light. Also, like a detective the hero saves the woman's honour & brings justice.Senuous love over a killing mind. Leaves the watcher(me)wondering who is good/bad.

If Raizo Ichikawa VIII didn't die, he'll probably still play Nemuri Kyoshiro in this movie much like Shintaro Katsu in Zatoichi movies of the 60's to 80's
Corporateria must've really latched onto Nipponese simplicity and straight lines, because I can't stop finding those far away islands' architecture of yore here seeming so familiar 👀

And what is the series of the year of release? The first one was released from 1972-1973 26 episodes And what year is this? Ichikawa Raizo best "Nemuri Kyoshiro" best "Zatoichi" Shintaro Katsu
The only thing I am wondering is about the title of Full Moon Killing for this one. He only used the technique once to kill someone in the entire movie.
@@jojoanggono3229 I agree with you there, he only uses it when it is merited. Unfortunately, I saw number three first, then watched this one, number one. In number three, he uses the technique several times, so i was surprised he only used it once in number one.
This doesn't seem to be the real name. Looks like it's Nemuri Kyoshirō (眠狂四郎), a TV movie from 1989. It's the first TV special after the 1972-1973 Nemuri Kyōshirō TV series. There are 4 other TV special movies that follow this one. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nemuri_Ky%C5%8Dshir%C5%8D_(TV_series) It would helpful if there was the real name in both Japanese (and an official English translation if there is one) as well as the year of production. There are a ton of Nemuri Kyoshirō movies and TV shows, so it's hard to keep which is which straight if there's no information here.
Masakazu only did the leaning backward stance in these movie series. He never did it in the Kyoshiro series in the 70's. Also, his Kamon/crest here is a mixed of Christian crosses that looks like a mesh compared to the crescent moon crest in the 70's TV series.
Ichikawa Raizo series THE BEST ! Anticipating the BIAN the righteous and virtuous contract assassin played by Ken Watanabe tv series by Samurai VS Ninja ... soon.
He walks like a model on a cat walk. He does not want a relationship with a woman. I think that he has honed his sword skills to kill anyone in his way is a symptom of the anger he feels within, this man is hiding a deep dark secret, maybe hiding the love that dare not speak its name.
A samurai have praid honor coriguesh dignity through rain storms winds darkness through sun clouds hi have pride in losses of all things and love his pridefulness don’t let him fall before tat hi will honor his pride with kirikiri before enyting
I like this actor but he seems to move unnaturally dont you think? His gate , with one foot nearly exactly in front of the other… When he turns to look at someone he moves his entire body as a unit instead of just his neck like everyone else in the movie he seems very overly stoic I am fascinated by the way he acts … still popular I certainly like it but most directors would not like it It is strange
I still dont understand the story line at all At first...Mrs Shizu son...he is the one who asking help to Kyoshiro to save his mother from his father and ask Kyoshiro to take her away...but...then he want to revenge his father death...that idiotic way to say thank you for helping you😂

Nemuri has a way. Such eloquence and refinement in slow motion. Like a full moon, a harvest moon.

great movie, and not to mention the superb style of fighting too. would really like to see this kind of movie/tv series again if any. onegai shimasu !
