▼Synopsis
This is a drama series broadcast in 1981 in Fuji Television's "Historical Drama Special," based on the series "Onmitsukuzure" by Norio Nanjo. Hiroki Matsukata and Gannosuke Ashiya play two characters with opposite personalities and the film offers the full enjoyment of a period drama filled with sword fights.
The Onmitsu, Sanzo (Matsukata Hiroki) and Yumenogosuke (Ashiya Gannosuke) are ordered to find out if the feudal lord's offer of medical treatment is true or not. They risk their lives to infiltrate the domain and report that the feudal lord was locked in a prison cell by a group of Karo lords. However, after three months, nothing is heard from him. Sanzo is furious at being neglected and quits the covert service, saying that he has run out of loyalty to the lord. Sanzo is attacked by a Kogi, but Gosuke comes to his rescue just in time, and the two become Ronins and set out on a journey out of Edo. They are also attacked by their pursuers at Tobakujo. The report is suppressed because Danjo Ito (Nobuaki Kawai), a Karo of the Nagaoka domain, has given a large sum of money to a shogunate official. The two decide to find and rob Ito's money tree and head for the Nagaoka domain.

What a dynamite surprise to see the Great HIROKI MATSUKATA in a film I never saw before. As you know, Mr. MATSUKATA passed away a few years ago, but at least gentlemen such as you preserve his legacy. And for that, I thank you.
My favorite ones on this channel so far have been the Araki film starring the great Kotaro Satomi and then this one with Matsukata. Thank you very much for preserving the legacy of these two great actors!

Matsukata Hiroki was one of the best actors in samurai drama. He was from actor's family (Father: Konoe Jushiro, brother: Meguro Yuki). His ex-wife's sister played in this drama as Osuzu. Because he was a left-hander, he said that he would practice to swing a lot using the right hand.

The music at the 1:12 mark with the trumpet sounds like a Sergio Leone spaghetti western. I like the way Japanese directors borrow from other sources.

These so called Samurai series and most of the movies are all the same. I watch a lot of them mainly for the architecture and the interior furnishings. Especially the lamps, shoji screen and sliding doors, all of which I have interest in, as an American carpenter practicing some Japanese methods using their vintage and current hand tools. This particular show is ridiculous. With cheap sets.
