    Lol!!!! Once freed from the prepared starting position, Alpha IMMEDIATELY started playing different moves than the human grandmaster played before.
    This is one of the reasons why some of Stockfish's wins over Alpha are bogus; they are making Alpha play garbage openings that it hates (like the French and Sicilian Najdorf; Alpha has decided these are bad and won't willingly play them, but Alpha is being forced to play them anyway)...
    Alpha immediately going in another direction from what the humans set up in this game makes me believe that Alpha doesn't like this opening/starting position either.

It also likes to take on a certain position every game, really cool to see. Before watching the games, I thought that AlphaZero would always fianchetto is black fianchetoed on black's queen side, but AlphaZero does not always do that. There were four games where Stockfish 8 played black and AlphaZero played white and where Stockfish 8 would use 1. d4 or 1. Nf3. In two of those games AlphaZero used the King's indian defense! I did not know that it used the Kings Indian without the book of opening. There are a lot of enjoyable games!

    Alpha seems to keep available two separate ideas, one being pushing his center pawn, and the other creating a menacing mate threat on the corner square. Stockfish then needs to calculate these lines simultaneously, which is an daunting task. In the end alpha holds for a slight material advantage which will be winning in the end game. That is how a stronger engine grinds out a win with computing power.

    The future engines will eventually adjust to account for AZ's willingness to sacrifice pieces in exchange for movement. Currently, this unique priority gives AZ a huge strategic advantage. It's going to be fun watching the future engines have to mitigate sacrifices versus movement advances.

      Maybe the future engines will be coded by machines that are better than us at making chess engines.

    When looking at alpha's games I can't help but wonder. Do current gm focus to much on the matiral on and not enough on aktivity of there pices?
    They definitely dont screw this up in a similar way as new players. But maybe decades of looking at stokfishes recomodations as the "best " moves scewed their perception.
    If that is the case i cannot wait to see what madness will be on the board in 10 years from now when the worlds best player used alphas recomidations in training for an extended period of time.
    Am I going crazy or is this actually going to cause a massive shift in playstyle

    @agadmator Would you consider changing the board color when going into variations and back, see how that goes? Unless one is paying absolute attention constantly, it's impossible to separate the actual game progress without replaying sections over and over. Or maybe some wording to that effect? I can`t be the only one here that gets confused..

    I would be very interested in seeing a line at 9:10 where black queen captures on h8 because you can’t simply block that check with rook or queen because then queen captures with check mate, so white queen would have to recapture but then rook to f7 would come with an attack on the other white rook and stop queen from checking on d5, plus queen would be trapped on the first row for the moment because if she moves then either rook to the first row would be checkmate. I’d be interested to see how it ends up playing out or if I missed something that would lead to a white checkmate.

    • @ACR96
      @ACR96 Рік тому

      Hey 4 years later, if black tries to defend checkmate with something like Qe5, then white can just play Qh7 checkmate!
