Only the ones like the one in this video that were built in the US. Since 2012 they have been built in Japan (a right hand drive country) and are good for UK roads.
If you buy a 20 year old Goldwing, as I did, check the air filter. It's probably still on the original one as it's right in the middle of the bike and needs major surgery to get at it. Otherwise it's pretty easy to work on, and is a fantastic bike. Most of them have been 'babied' their entire lives, as they are generally owned by older guys who know a thing or two about comfort and reliability. After five previous bikes, it's the last bike I'll ever buy, and I'm not upset at that!
Too much is made of changing the air filter. There are several how-to YT videos from which I made up an instruction sheet. Be patient and methodical. Top tip 1: piece of cardboard to keep trim bolts in the right sequence because they're different sizes. Top tip 2: if the cruise control has lag (most do) now's the time to adjust it whilst the shelter's off.
I'm a sports bike rider, and a biker for 40 years. I bought a 2005 Goldwing. I toured 2 up with all the luggage and woman's stuff including a tank bag, from north east UK to Australia and back, I also toured all of Ireland. I had no aches or pains. 500 miles UK riding on my old hayabusa or my current zx14 I'm was crippled. I had the Goldwing 12 years, while touring.. fantastic touring bike. Look at vids on UA-cam of how to pic up a Goldwing properly without effort, not the ball breaker way you did it lol.. good vlog though.
Nothing worse than your body or a certain part killing you on a long trip. Rode 3k miles on my Aprilia. When I throw a leg over it now, I wonder how the hell did I do that. Now I have additional HD electra. One day 1200 miles nothing hurts. Couldn't agree with you more. That trip must have been amazing. How did you deal with the bike shipping to Australia?
I was like you and made fun of the Wing in my earlier riding days, but after 20+ yrs of riding and 20 bikes prior, I picked up a '15 GW F6B Deluxe and have fell in love with it over the last 1.5 years I have owned it. I have made it my "do-it-all" bike, commute on it daily as well as any fun or long rides! I like that I can sit, stand, or stretch my legs on hwy pegs. I also love that I can fit my HJC helmet in the left saddle bag (pannier)!
Very fair review. I got a lovely white 2015 one with 11500 miles on it a couple of months ago and love it! Great engine roar on acceleration and the handling is surprisingly brilliant!
I bought a 2015 Anniversary Edition new in 2016. My ST1300 had gotten to the point it was just too top heavy and tall in the saddle for a 71 year old. With the way the bike carries its weight and handles this is likely my last scoot after 65 years of riding road bikes. I use it for everything except taking my mower to the shop.
Zack and Ari that host Revzilla today have made a video in the past where they are touring on bikes the size of the Honda goldwing and each have a motorcross on a trailer hooked to the touring bikes 🤙🏾.
I started on a 750 cruiser, and went to a 1500 cruiser. But i must say after going to a Goldwing i've done more long distance trips much further than i've ever thought I would travel on a bike. It's been reliable, comfortable, and my passenger absolutely approves as well. 2 week trip for 2 of us travelling eastern Canada 4000km. Done no problems
Thanks for a great review! I absolutely LOVE my Gold Wing! I started riding in 1982 and nothing has been better than the Wing! It can also be ridden like a sport bike because it will handle whatever you can throw at it. It isn't a speed demon, nor is it meant to be, but it'll keep up in the twisties! It has no problems with peg scraping turns, hairpin turns, or any other kind of turn. It is the finest all-around bike I've ever ridden! The only reason I'd get a different bike is if I get too weak to be able to handle it's weight as I get older. In the meantime, it's the Gold Wing for the win!!
I ride a lot of miles with my partner on the back, when I first got into motorcycling I always said the exact same "Just get a car!" After going for a back and butt breaking journey through Norway on a Vulcan 650 with luggage and two people I decided to explore the big touring bike world as the group I ride with is affectionatly known as "The Goldwing group".. Ended up with a GV1400 (Suzuki's weird version of a Goldwing) and putting down almost over 50.000km in about two years. It's been to Austria, Slovenia, Norway (Up to Trondheim, time is limited.. sadly), Central France, etc.. it's a joy! They're pig-heavy but you can use that weight to make them corner, unlike the 1800 though the frame is a wet noodle and you can't just adjust course on a whim. For anyone on the fence/hating them, please.. keep on buying other bikes. It makes my GL1800/GL1500 a little cheaper when my garage is finally expanded :)
Very cool. I really like these used reviews. I'd love you to do more bikes of a similar era / price to the TL1000s you guys looked at... For example: Tuono gen 1, cb900f hornet, stuff like that
I love my Goldwing, yes it is heavy but the weight is low and there is plenty of power. The air cleaner is the only hassle with regards to servicing, Thanks for the video.
I love that. There is definitely a guilty pleasure with "giving up" all the "fun" parts of motorcycling and gaining all the "boring" parts, yet I can't help but think "that's a cool bike" and want to give it a go!
This is just such a crazy and erroneous concept. You don't give up anything with a Goldwing, and you only gain. I've heard all kinds of wild claims about the Goldwing but "it can't do x/y" claims are always the craziest. Goldwings are crazy manoeuvrable and they are a joy in the twisties. You can lane and edge filter just fine on a Goldwing (I do it regularly). You can take it on dirt and on grass if you need to. People just live on ego defence mode and they doubt themselves and their ability to handle such a large and powerful motorbike, and instead of rising to the challenge, come up with crazy ideas to cope.
After sold 2007 Goldwing, I am happy with 2018 GW Tour Manual. More nimble, sleeker and easy to ride in town. But the seat is more comfortable with the old one.
Thanks for this video! Like you, my friends and I used to tease Wings (and their owners) fairly regularly. But now that I'm pushing 60, the thought of ending a day's ride without feeling like I've been beaten with a stick is an extremely pleasant one. 😊 The next step is to take one for a ride and see for myself!
Always poked fun at them, after years of ADV bikes, superbikes etc, recently got a '13 one for two up touring. Thought I'd hate it, but actually love it 😂 Total comfort, easy handling, nice noise, and it's so ridiculous it's just fun. Had it on grass and gravel loads of times already. Only wish id gotten one years ago. Oh, look up Matt Spears 😂
I'm retired, live on the Canadian Prairies and have a K1600GT. There are differences but the BMW is for the same kind of riding. Until you're the habit of four hour rides for a coffee and a carrot cake or do a fifteen hour, 1200 km day you cant't truly appreciate the value these machines provide.
I bought one of these before I turned 30. I get some very odd looks and i have to be honest, it really is a challenge to master at first. Not a super exciting bike but one that will run and run and you can rely on. I cant say that for my other bikes. Great review, thanks.
as your quite a great rider and well viewed on a massive array of motorcycles I found this quite interesting,, I've never ridden one,,but shows how the perception is different to the actual getting out on it 😕,, good video and thanks for taking us with you ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️ from northern Ireland
Great review. I had one of these a few years back, finished in a beautiful burnt orange colour, but kind of bought it at the wrong time. Now I'm retired, it would have been perfect. Well, nearly. The one thing I didn't like about the Goldwing, like so many other bikes, was the linked brakes. Perhaps there's a technique I never mastered but I won't touch any bike that uses this system or one like it, which means there are a lot of great bikes I'm missing out on.
2008 Wing was my second bike. Learned on a 06 Ninja 250cc for 6 months then right to the Wing. Ninja 305lbs, Wing 875lbs. 2 scary weeks and I was good!
If there's one thing I've learned from owning a Goldwing is that people making fun of it are just on 100% copium. It usually comes from a place of insecurity as they don't think they can handle the weight or the size of the bike.
When I first saw a „ Silverwing“ I thought WOW 🤩 that’s huge and looks awesome- Then the Goldwing came and bugger me- what a MONSTER I love it 🥰 but never thought I could ride one due to the weight and size- seeing you ride it makes me wonder- will I try it someday? I reckon I just might 😅 Thank mate -
Intersting to see how easy it is to pick up. What you say about riding a Goldwing being motorcycling is also true about riding a can-am. I have an F3-S, but I ride two-wheel motorcycles daily, as well.
I bought a 2003 wing with 69,000 miles on it. It been a little over a year and it now has 81,000 miles. It's been a reliable bike. Only thing I had happen was my rear brake pad came out of the bracket and the pad rubbed on the rivots on the rotor. Who knows why that happened other than there was insane brake dust on the rear wheel.
I owned a 1500 for 30 yrs, 80,000 miles and apart from front wheel bearings, nothing broke. I was a great bike and I'd get another in a heart beat. Great bikes, just watch a Goldwing on tail of dragon vids
Me mum was with a motorcycle club.. We went for tour rides and i was still a kid on the back with me mum. There was a goldwing rider in front of us and he could ride.. he rode it like a sportsbike going flat out almost the pipes on the ground
Got to love a lead wing😂. The only proper tourer out there. Still got my aspencade. One of the first with reverse. Bought it new in the 80's instead of buying a house. Best decision i ever made.
If you want super comfort, big journeys, excellent weather protection, luggage and a motor that can "haul" weight effortlessly.. and all on 2 wheels.... this is it. Not very exciting but very effective. Took me 40 years to find out too, but its only one machine in the fleet... I wouldnt have it as an only bike 😉
I hated the F’in things! Why? I would ask. Then my favourite dealer lent me one for the weekend, while they fixed a puncture. It was a new goldwing bagger! Oh my giddy aunt. What a belting bike. If I had the room and money, there would be on in my garage!
My master plan is to buy a used one and visit family I haven’t seen in a while. About a 4,000 mile trip. Then sell it when I get back. My fear is that I won’t want to sell it though. All my bikes are geared towards off road and adventure. A Goldwing in the stable would be like having your mother in law visit but never actually go home.
The 2018+ 6th gen is a very different bike. It's smaller and lighter and the reason why Honda withdrew the brilliant ST Pan European. The 6th gen Goldwing was conceived to appeal to ST Pan European riders and Goldwing riders alike. Trouble is, compromise doesn't sell.
Though I didn't have a bike at the time...I passed my test in1991 before the new bike test laws came into effect just because I planned to get a Honda Goldwing in the future... I still haven't owned one!
17,000 miles on a 20 year old goldwing? That's damn near factory mileage compared to some models of it's age. It's nice to see even some of the better riders in the world still have the "I'll never make this u-turn" mentality going into them. Oh and Burt can take a damn highside with those insurance prices.
Never had a go of one but my ST1100 was 300kg, I don't imagine this would be any more difficult to manage than that was with due care. And I'm a shortarse in my 50s. I think you pilot a goldwing more than you ride one if that makes any sense...
I remember when I kid there was a policeman had a first generation gold wing, we use to go and look at it because it was not like the rest of the bikes
Now you've done a tourer maybe it's worth doing a lawnmower review? I'm sure there are a few Harley riders who'd love to see a real racer ride one of their bikes...
The risk of massive deferred maintenance on 20 year old bike is high, especially in North America. Only 10% follow the maintenance schedule and best practices. Who changes brake fluid and brake lines every 2 years, radiator fluid every 3 years, etc. No one. Most wash a bike like a car, which is wrong. Electronics, water and soap not good. Instead use detailer or waterless wash. Bikes are generally neglected. Sold when broken or worn out. No one has tradable service records showing maintenance schedule was followed. A gamble unless you are mechanic. Tried buying old and cheap, it backfires and you end up spending more than newer bike.
Interested to know what thier fuel consumption details are, maybe it’s cheaper to fuel a car as well. But a bikes a bike, honestly I’d love one to just load up and hit the road with no end in sight. I have a dirt bike if I want to be excited. Thanks for the review
So, the question is...given space and finances..how many bikes would you have to own to get one of these? Not collector type bikes but all newish ridden fairly regularly kind of thing. For me, I reckon about 8th or 9th bike territory.
@BikeWorldTVshow well i ride very little i have done 2500 miles on the triumph in 2 1/2 years i use it for work now and again and joy rides on weekends when i get the chance
IMO there is no better way to cover the miles and explore foreign countries. One thing you didn’t cover. Many of us use our bikes to take our other half touring. You won’t find your pillion complaining being chauffeured across a continent on the back of a Wing.
There are some great reasons why Guy Martin owns, and loves riding, a Gold Wing ...... I think Chris just did a good job of explaining it all 😉
I meet you once and to be honest your as genuine in real life as you are on UA-cam big fan of yours😊
The Gold Wings sold in the UK have the steering wheel on the wrong side.
lol 🙂
Settle down Joe Rogan.
Only the ones like the one in this video that were built in the US. Since 2012 they have been built in Japan (a right hand drive country) and are good for UK roads.

There's also a high chance they're maintained by a retired mechanic, sometimes meaning it's maintained to perfection and beyond.
Yup bought a 2002 and changed the air filter last night. It was terrible

I have the '07 with only 15k miles my only complaint is its a very loud clunky gearbox
the Honda Goldwing is the best bike there is they are legendary and cant be beat they run for ever with simple maintance
I bought one..... it's everything I ever needed
I'm a sports bike rider, and a biker for 40 years. I bought a 2005 Goldwing. Never 😅wanted one. Test drove one for a bit of fun. Now I own one, nuff said.
I’ve heard people say never take your wife for a test ride unless you already have the money for the bike.
I've been waiting for wheelies and skids the whole time
Right? Chris, can you 'back it in'? 🤣
Chris McNeil will host stunt events using the K1600B.

Also my 2007 got LCD problem (crack) after 10 years
Everytime I see one parked I go up to it just to marvel at the amount of buttons and switches
Thanks for riding one as I’m sure never will . Quite interesting all in all .
Goldwing the GOAT 😊😊

Ace! More used reviews please! Especially stuff that's a little bit left field! Cheers, Ed
Great choice! Many low miles love my 2010 GW❤
Hi John here goldwings I like are from 2001 to 2010 then 2012 to 2017 amazing machine be my next bike
Great bikes, just watch a Goldwing on tail of dragon vids
That's the first time I've ever seen the foot heaters! Proper consumer advice there chis ta 🤣
Me mum was with a motorcycle club.. We went for tour rides and i was still a kid on the back with me mum. There was a goldwing rider in front of us and he could ride.. he rode it like a sportsbike going flat out almost the pipes on the ground
If you are a motorcylist and you haven't crossed the country on a touring bike you are missing out on a great adventure.
Got to love a lead wing😂. The only proper tourer out there. Still got my aspencade. One of the first with reverse. Bought it new in the 80's instead of buying a house. Best decision i ever made.
I'm old enough that I now look at Gold Wings. The new ones are very expensive but the Honda guy at the NEC last year said PCP was the way to own one.
Years ago, I owned a K100LT.... I rode from UK to Vienna in one day.... I took that K all over Europe.
I hated the F’in things! Why? I would ask. Then my favourite dealer lent me one for the weekend, while they fixed a puncture. It was a new goldwing bagger! Oh my giddy aunt. What a belting bike. If I had the room and money, there would be on in my garage!
I've never thought 'get yourself a car', mainly because even a short ride on one proves it's a bike and there's nothing better for comfort !
Nice one Chris!
The open air is one of the best parts of riding. I think that alone would make it worth it.
The Honda Gold Wing is a Beast
I know that guilty curiosity.... I have that with the bagger version of this.
Anyone else seen that dude on a GW hillclimbing?
He's crazy the things he got upto on it.
What a great video...lays bike down to demonstrate lift up....wow!
Truly the Mostorcycle. Viva la Goldwing!
I really like that new bagger gold wing. (I just don’t tell my mates 😁)

It's nice to see even some of the better riders in the world still have the "I'll never make this u-turn" mentality going into them. Oh and Burt can take a damn highside with those insurance prices.
But will it wheelie, Chris?
More to the point, will it do a stoppie? 😆
As a teen I had a centrefold of Ronnie Smith(RIP) from PB doing a wheelie two up on a Goldwing, so that's a yes.

I remember when I kid there was a policeman had a first generation gold wing, we use to go and look at it because it was not like the rest of the bikes
Discount now it's been dropped once?
Now you've done a tourer maybe it's worth doing a lawnmower review? I'm sure there are a few Harley riders who'd love to see a real racer ride one of their bikes...
Could be wrong but didn’t a first gen Goldwing race at the IoM ?
You should try the DCT 2024. !!!!
why didn't you try the new generation goldwing 2024?
Motorcycles in the Uk don't wave as you pass?
@@BrettFightorFlight we nod, not always though.

The goldwing that gen is my Made it bike when I own one I know. I made it
Interested to know what thier fuel consumption details are, maybe it’s cheaper to fuel a car as well. But a bikes a bike, honestly I’d love one to just load up and hit the road with no end in sight. I have a dirt bike if I want to be excited. Thanks for the review
It's gets exactly 36 a gallon
I had 2, they are ok. A Pan European rides so much better and does the exact same job. In my opinion
Had both and totally disagree! 😂 (unless you're talking about the st1300 which crucifies a Goldwing in handling and power/fun)
So, the question is...given space and finances..how many bikes would you have to own to get one of these? Not collector type bikes but all newish ridden fairly regularly kind of thing. For me, I reckon about 8th or 9th bike territory.
Great review Chris by the way...really enjoyed that.
I've got 3 and this will likely be my 5th.
What’s it like with a pillion on the back
It’s a great machine…
I’m talking my 2013 F6B
For a ride in about an hour..😉
If I could fit it through the gate, I'd buy one LOL
Bike world fan base should i exchange a 2017 triumph speed triple 1050 r for a 2015 gsx-s1000f????
Depends on your needs Shaun???
@BikeWorldTVshow well i ride very little i have done 2500 miles on the triumph in 2 1/2 years i use it for work now and again and joy rides on weekends when i get the chance
@@shaunhowell5418 Keep the Triumph!
they’re harder to steal as well cause they’re heavy as f.
Ride an bmw rt next please
But what's it like for skids and wheelies? 😄
bro please make us some more videos on your ktm 950 please like this video so it will appear to him
Chris testing a bike and not going off road? I'm disappointed!
He technically did. He dropped it in the grass. 😂
I cannot imagine paying European fuel prices to feed that thing. As great as that bike is. Fuel mileage is not its strong point.
Something is a weird with the audio. It’s like the voice is too loud compared to the bike/wind noise.
That’s because we have e a good mic system, so you can’t hear the wind.
@@BikeWorldTVshow just felt more like a voice over imo. Love y’all’s videos though.
@@trenthays7 Nope, from the mic in the helmet. he was also behind the biggest screen in the world.
@@BikeWorldTVshow I said “felt like a voice over imo”. Obviously it’s not.
sensational
Now let's get one thing clear, if you like and respect music, don't involve it with motorcycling. Keep them apart....they are not friends!!!
How sensible! Totally agree. Keep your ears clear - for safety, and so you can sit and concentrate on the music later, at home.
you don't' have to turn off signals
i own a fjr in the future i am gonna buy goldwing 1800 and people who laugh at it they can drive their scooters
ShadeTree!! #BrapStar Say no more
The Honda Goldwing is easily the best car in production today
I drove almost every brand in my life from 40 kph till 300 kph. Goldwing just the nicest bike ever.
Rains in every video:)
now get your but on the new Panigale V4 :)
IMO there is no better way to cover the miles and explore foreign countries. One thing you didn’t cover. Many of us use our bikes to take our other half touring. You won’t find your pillion complaining being chauffeured across a continent on the back of a Wing.
Wow that's a lot of kilos...probably
