  • Having enjoyed trying out Stiga's battery operated ride-on mower last month - • Review Of The Stiga E-... - we received Mountfield's self-propelled Empress 51 Li battery operated lawn mower to review. While I enjoyed using the ride-on, I still like a push mower because it gives you a bit of workout and you have a more control when mowing around trees, bushes and in tight spaces.

I was hoping to find out if its possible to just mow with one battery at a time (e.g. if you only have a smaller lawn and don't want to buy 2x batteries)
Also do you know if the 5 year warranty covers the batteries and charger as well if they have to be purchased separately?

Yes you can mow with just one battery. The warranty will not cover the batteries. Since filming this Mountfield have switched battery platforms, so the batteries will be different and I assume the model has also been updated.
Just for reference, this is my favourite lawnmower: ua-cam.com/video/vvr5HW6BU0o/v-deo.html

      Here’s the answer from Mountfield:
“When we started producing battery mowers we were using a 'third party' supplier for the batteries and motors (we call this the powerhead).
In 2020 we switched to batteries that we designed and produce ourselves but unfortunately could not use the same mounting system as the original design is owned by the original supplier and we also wanted to make improvements to enable the new battery design to be more flexible and support other larger models where we combine two batteries to power machines that require more runtime or voltage.
I fully understand your frustration that our new system is not 'backwards compatible' and your reluctance to replace a working machine for the want of a new battery.
I can absolutely reassure you that now we are masters of our own destiny in both design and manufacture of our 48V system that we will be able to fully support you in the future.
We will, of course, continue to support any 48 voltage products you own and spare parts will remain available.”

Wanted the actually hear the mower cutting, would have been far more useful to hear how the motor was coping rather than you describing it or the music playing.
