My favorite story referencing Larry came from Pat Riley, I'll paraphrase; the player I'd pic to shoot the ball to ensure we won a game is Michael Jordan. The player I would pick to prevent me from taking a bullet is Larry Bird...mic drop.
My favorite was how he always pushed his own teammates with his trash talk. He once said to a reporter about Kevin McHale, "His idea of getting into shape for the season is switching to light beer."
Bro….. that man air balled ON PURPOSE….. On FREAKING PURPOSE!!!!! All just to let him know he is on another level.. hahaha. This might be the best one. Hahahahahahaha
The thing I like about Bird was he loved his teammates and any player on any other team was the enemy. Can you imagine if the NBA had put microphones on Bird like they put on players today?? After 5 minutes, ESPN would be like " OMG = we have to take the microphone off of Larry!!"
@@fridaylong2812 Bird had a lot of triple doubles. Quadruple doubles RARELY happen. In league history they are rare. Bird had a comfortable triple double, pts, rebounds and assists, but he also had 9 steals when he took himself out of the game before the 4th qtr. The coach asked him if he wanted to go back in to get that 10th steal but he said he'd done enough damage. They were up by about 30 pts.
He told muscle man Anthony Mason that all those muscles weren't going to help him, that he was going to bust him up. In the game Bird would yell "MUSCLES" every time he took a shot!
The funny thing about Bird, is he did so much talking on the court, that today he has disappeared from the face of the planet. He's not on social media, he doesn't give interviews, he's not a guest on sports media, he's nowhere to be found. WTF??? 🤣🤣 Larry Legend.
And the young heads have to realise.. The rules were different..you could bill lambert a guy.. And omg the talent...was mind blowing..jorden,magic,bird,the pistons,.. And Larry says he is gonna drop 43 on you after a night of partying

@@cindyknudson2715 In turn Larry'd have to up his game. He always set the bar higher for everyone. THAT'S what saved the nba. Now it's gone to shit again.
@@andybilakshow260 Agreed. There's a video where Bryant Gumbel and Michael Cooper talk about the league back then before Magic and Bird. How the style of play had changed to many players being more about "me getting mine" and standing out individually, and not caring about the team or championships.
I wonder what the discussion was with the rest of Larry Bird's teammates on the 92 Olympic team when Rodney Rogers made those comments? I wonder if they cheered him on like saying yeah take the rookie to school. I can just see it magic saying okay so it's agreed by committee Larry Bird's getting the first nine shots. We can all just sit back and enjoy ourselves while he takes this little pup to the woodshed. Enjoy the show.

You might want to check info on Wilt Chamberlain. And remember, unlike today, they used to play defense, hold peoples jersey’s, etc. and Bird was more interested in having all people on the team score, versus individual numbers. His average pts per game could have been way higher if he had wanted to.
@mike fuchs Yea, so? Goodluck finding anyone that actually cares. Wilt started playing pro ball in like 1958. You put Luka on a team in 1960 and they would think he was god.
I'm a 70 y/o white guy. One of the things I loved about Larry was it seemed to me that he didn't have a racist bone in his body. He gave everybody shit equally. I bet you'd agree with me
Being 20 years older that Bird, I saw much more of the previous players than him. Bill Russll and John Havlicek were my guys, and John won 8 championships, while Bill won 11, and didn't find it necessary to behave like aholes! Havlicek would have run Birds big mouth out of breath! Bird was a great player, but he needed to be shut down!
As a white guy, I will first say this, Michael Jordan is the GOAT. There is NO debate there. Then magic and bird. LeBron, Steph Curry, and Kevin Garnett are NOT even in the same universe, That’s because of all the new rules in today’s game. Back, then, was so much more physical. You would be getting elbows to the face Your jersey was being tugged on defense was so much more intense. Today why do you think James Harden is able to get 20 free throws. They call a foul on every stupid play with the players, whining and crying. Today players ONLY care about money and that showed in the All-Star game. The NBA is a disgrace today, anyone who puts LeBron James in front of any of these three men is completely ignorant on the game of basketball
Bird had so much swag!
No wonder he was called "Legend"...
Nothing less could fit him !!
I’m from Detroit I watched him destroy us over n over and was always in someone’s ear. What makes Bird special is he has that swag just being himself

You are being generous at 5 minutes. More like 30 seconds.
Bird would NEVER have agreed to be mic'd up. It was for the opponent's ears only. 😄
😂😂😂😂
Bird is the word😂
That game were Bird felt like 43 tonight and was out at the 3rd quarter, if he had stayed in, he would have had a quadruple double.
He had quadruple doubles. On that night, they had a comfortable lead, and no doubt, his back was causing him severe pain.

F*cking hilarious. Every game man it must’ve been exhausting to play him when he’s zeroed in on you.
Dude, had a mental game like no other.
What made Larry’s trash talk so good was how creative he was with it. He probably airballed that 3 on purpose just for the line

To those who didn’t see him yeah it was real.
