There are a lot of wolves around Hardwick Station Road close to odenville Alabama. No one believes me, so I record them from now on. Also saw one run across Moody Pkwy in downtown Moody at 2:30am. They’re becoming more and more common.
It’s a shame that a handful of locals who are immersed in silly conspiracy theories and myths, have derailed the NC red wolf reintroduction. You can thank them and the head of the Federal wildlife dept in Atlanta for the endless coyotes.
He didn't say there are no Prairie wolves"coyote"-(Canis latrans) in the east, he said there never used to be prairie wolves-(Canis latrans) in the east because they was a west side canid species. In the northern part of the east side there's the Algonquin wolves-(Canis lycaon) use to have more range from Algonquin to about north Carolina, and on the southern part of the east side used to be the range of the Red wolves-(Canis rufus), these wolf species used to stop Prairie wolves-(Canis latrans) getting a foot hold on the east side of North America. Then about 600 years ago give or take the Europeans turn up to the Americas, the wolves on the east side didn't fit with there plans, so over the next 600 years they hunted the two east side wolf species to species damaging levels. Then there relative the Prairie wolves-(Canis latrans) started to move in to the east from the west, because there was a point that the Red wolves-(Canis rufus) numbers wasn't there to hold the Prairie wolves-(Canis latrans) back. Healthy, solid wolf packs see other canids as a problem that needs moving on or if caught killed, however broken, fragment packs see other genetically close canids as protenal mates if in season and there nothing else to mate with. This is what happened between the remaining Red wolves-(Canis rufus) and Prairie wolves-(Canis latrans) over the years. So now in the east you have Prairie wolves-(Canis latrans), Red prairie wolves-(Canis rufus X latrans) and in the northeast of the east in the New England area the Tweed wolves-(Canis latrans X lycaon X lupus X familiaris). Then the remaining Algonquin wolves-(Canis lycaon) in the Algonquin park area, and the remaining Red wolves-(Canis rufus) in captivity and controlled recovery areas.
I think if you check historical records of the coyote you will find states like NJ did not have any population of coyotes until the early part of the last century not long after the wolves were exterminated. Up until about the turn of this century I never saw one in my state, and I have hunted extensively from the pine barons, to the tip of the state. Today they are all over the place.
Around 5to8 years ago I got a short glimpse of a large k9 running across HWY 70 in Lakeland TN ( around 25mi east of Memphis) after viewing this I believe it must have been TN red wolf! It crossed the four lane highway in about 2 to 3 leaps ! Few people I told of course thought I was crazy . Great video!
@@AlexSciChannel your completely wrong. My fiance and I were driving through Tennessee to Florida and what we thought was an enormous coyote attempted to run from one side of I75 to the other and the vehicle in front of us hit the animal. It layed about 50yds ahead of us and we stopped to see if the other family was ok and theyre car was drivable. They were fine but had a flat tire and newborn with them, what i assumed as a coyote was dead on scene. We called 911 and they sent out State Patrol who informed us though very endangered and rare and typically in state programsthe once native red wolf doesake itself known occasionally in Tennessee. A metropark ranger was called out to the scene where we finished paperwork and statements of the accident. It was avsolutely identified as a female redwolve.
@@angelapelland8013 so you got your id from, the state patrol? Lol. I believe you are mistaken. Every single red wolf in the wild is collared and monitored by the nc department of national wildlife refuges. I believe the canid you encountered was something called a coywolf mostly due to the size of it that was described. Red wolves are barely bigger than coyotes and only identifiable through sometimes color and usually sound. Coywolves are obviously bigger than coyotes due to breeding between timber wolves and coyotes from external pressures by humans. Again I am 100% certain the patrol you encountered was incorrect in their diagnosis. I volunteered several times for the Red Wolf conservation fund and know the politics in and out. As of right now no Red Wolf lives outside of Alligator River Refuge, mainly because it's phyisically impossible for them to do so due to the populous being legally allowed to kill them outside of the refuge, due to unfairly seeing them as pests.
I saw one once on Farrah hill rd in Manchester tn it was crossing the road and I knew it wasn’t a coyote right away it was huge it stared at me like it wasn’t afraid at all then just turned and ran into the woods I was so amazed I didn’t know we had these until I saw this video that’s incredible!
There are red wolf's around Nashville and in Dickson County. I thought they were very large coyotes at first. I just didn't know what I was looking at first. Until I was about 15 feet from one. Watching it walk through a ditch line. No that's not a coyote. This is along the Cumberland River in Nashville. And around Hwy 250 and Hwy 47 in Dickson Co. I work at Night in an Industrial setting, so there are no people. They seem to like to travel down railroad lines and be near the river. Could be easily missed by, most people. Every one is at home in bed. They are a wild animal, however they don't seem aggressive towards people. Coyotes aren't the size of a German Shepherd or a Malimute. Look at night, I think you will find them.
@@JM-nt5ex Maybe not, Red Wolves are bred up at Land Between the Lakes since the 80s I think. It wouldn't be impossible for a pair to escape. I'm not sure the They could have easily followed the Cumberland down into dickson or cheatham counties. There weren't any coyotes here until the late 70s, so it's not impossible that red wolves could expand their range as well.
I just commented that I saw one west of Nashville which actually is Dickson Co. I’m very familiar with coyote and it was NOT one! I just love how people who have never lived here think they know more and believe everything they’re told! Apologies but it’s frustrating!
There are adults around who would have LOVED to have been able to get into conservation work, but couldn't. To get into this kind of work, one has to have majored in biology and/or zoology. Science majors like these usually require chemistry. Chemistry, in turn, requires mathematics. There are people who are learning-disabled only in math, but who did well in all the other subjects, including sciences. They've "had the door slammed in their faces".
Only problem is that this was tried in the 90s and now because of it those coyotes are now part red wolf.they are a hybrid species.the numbers dwindled so low the last time the wolf was introduced they resorted to breeding with the coyotes do to not having a viable Mate.
also, people from tennessee are suppose to have tennessee accents. and northerners are suppose to be up north. maybe you could educate the children on that?
Maybe the coyotes should be in sanctuaries but not reproducing so much so the only type of wolf (red american wolf) that could not hunt big preys individually have the chance to come back from almost extinction and be able to help balance nature out in the wilderness
I remember seeing a Wolf in the Great Smoky Mtn NP. I told a Park ranger what I saw and he denide that wolves live in the Area. I took a Pic of him and showed him but he said it was a very large Coyote. Yeah I shot coyotes before in Texas and definately know the difference Then I see this video. Hmmm.
After being unable to legally secure the trademark for its name, the Commanders will have to rebrand, again and now with Josh Harris as the team's principal owner, he might be revisiting naming his team the Washington Redwolves- stay tuned!!!

We, Tennessee’ has had Wolves forever, but not according to the Tennessee Wildlife Officers.
dont forget cougars
Apparently too much work to admit wolves or cougars for many states game and fish officers.
Need to put some at Land Between the Lakes.
Who the hell told you people there are no coyotes on the east coast???
Yea we’ve always had coyotes here, there just weren’t as many as now

Yes, they look almost like they’re flying when running!
I saw a red wolf in my property near to Tennessee. It was pregnant and then I saw her pups.
There are no Red Wolves in the wild of Tennessee
Probably a coyote they look close but their is 40 wild wolf's and they are in NC and 300 in breeding programs nation wide

Probably a coyote, Eastern coyotes are part grey wolf and dog
Our trail camera picked up either a large coyote or wolf. It's bigger than the coyotes we see on our property. I'm in Robertson county TN.

are there any cougars in Tennessee?
I recently moved to West Tenn.A week ago a big cat screamed close to my property.Another person reported a cougar sighting in my area
@@christiebetts4970 wow, i knew it, the eastern cougar is back
eastern cougars arent a subspecies, theyre nearly identical to the rest of the species

When they reintroduced wolves in Yellowstone , they began to right the eco system and the population of coyotes went down .

How about Mammuthus columbi the Jeffersonian Mammoth
Doomed to failure due to the successful and numbers of coyotes
Red Wolfs look & sound like an eastern coyote - let them merge. It’s nature!!
Looks like the gray wolf's population has made a complete comeback in the state of Kentucky. That would be the Canus lupus.
Bad ideas
Change the name of high school teams to the Red Wolves. Time to get creative. Get Federal Protection.
