What a beautiful possum. They make such lovely pets. I notice Shmooky still has little pink tips on the ears. Yes, unfortunately that's because alot of people are uneducated about the benefits that opossums provide to us, in a natural wild environment, and in urban settings. I want a opossum. Sadly it's illegal to own them here in Texas. But you can hunt them, kill them...do whatever you want to do to them to cause harm but you can't help them. I had the honor to take in 2 baby opossums for about 4 days because their mother was cruelly ran overed by a lawn mower on purpose. Two little babies fell off and I got to experience taking care of them until I found a opossum shelter that would take them in. I fell so much in love with the babies!

Why ??So the neighbors dog can rip her apart,so the person down the street can beat her to death when she raids his garbage can or sleeps under his shed, so someone can run her over purposely!"Petunia" has been with us over 3 yrs,a member of our family who makes many trips to Lowes,Home Depot and Bed,Bath and Beyond.Petunia climbs dog steps each nite to snuggle under the blankets and sleep against my wife.3 days ago she had extensive surgery to remove 2 large fatty tumors. In a lot of pain-never an aggressive act- if anything I would say that she appreciates the extra food, care, water and tenderness. With us over 3 years now.....how do you put a price on "roadkill"????
Benny Hill yes, i think all animals we can consider pets nowadays come from wild ancestors that we domesticated over time. And even with the ones that we've come upon and decided to make them pets more recently, after a while living with human and receiving food, care and love," captivity" becomes less and less relevant.
MrJerryUrt sorry for late response, such an amazing story you have there. I believe you did the right thing out of love and there's no price we could put on a life, no matter human's or animal's. I hope Petunia is doing well. I was just lucky enough to have a possum came across my back yard once.
That's awesome. My friend has one and they make the best companion pet. They're not like what people think. They're very affectionate and my friends possum has never bitten anyone. Thank you so much for sharing. Cheers.
Exactly right: "so many shockingly stupid people". The gap between the most intelligent and the most stupid human is bigger than between average human and a dog. Care, goodness, kindness, benevolence. Sweet little Shmooky!
Thank you, Nenad! So much praise here and with good reason! Shmooky looks to be an older fellow, a little frayed on the ear tips (often from frostbite). I had a male that looked similar to him, even with the 'brow' that I wintered over for one season and a wonderful fellow. The shorter nose is just one of the variations I've seen, but when they forage through a lot of brush and weeds, the fur gets worn very close to the skin and makes the nose appear long and skinny.
Nenad Bach Cuteness overload! I have many possums in my backyard and we put up nesting places for them. We feed them and they also feed from our many fruit trees. They are so lovely.
sooooooo cute! oh My god! too bad Hong Kong is not allowed to keep them as pet :( But you are so nice and kind to smooky, wish you and smooky lives a happy life :)

What a great vid. I had an opposum for about 2 years myself. A male that was abandoned as a baby. He had congenital issues and would not have survived in the wild. He died a few months ago and watching your video reminds me of how amazing it was to take care of such a wonderful creature.
My son aired out the basement in our Brooklyn house today by leaving the back door open. This evening he came upon a young possum down there when he got back. I have rabbits as pets so he lured the possum into a pet carrier and put him back into our backyard. For all I know there's a whole family out there because we don't use the yard often. Thank God my son is a regular Dr. Doolittle and loves animals. It seemed scared and probably came in because he smelled my rabbits. It had the cutest face and seemed docile but their teeth scare me. I hope he finds his family. And damn...I forgot to take pictures but who knows...They might be here to stay for another photo opportunity

I come back to your sight often, just for viewing; I love watching over and over again.
thank you, Shmooky and Nenad
That's awesome. My friend has one and they make the best companion pet. They're not like what people think. They're very affectionate and my friends possum has never bitten anyone. Thank you so much for sharing. Cheers.
he's so happy and chubby ;; I love him
Not chunky
opossums are lovely animals, and you a good person to take care of this one ^^
S okie is so adorable...bless you for taking care of this sweet creature.
Love of my life
Exactly right: "so many shockingly stupid people". The gap between the most intelligent and the most stupid human is bigger than between average human and a dog.
Care, goodness, kindness, benevolence.
Sweet little Shmooky!
What a beautiful video, such kindness from him to the little one.
He's so cute.... May he rest in peace
It looks like a baby panda. So cute!
Why cant every human be this compassionate towards living things...
Aw, he's so cute!!! I love possums. I feed one in the backyard every night. Thanks for posting this!!
Thank you for 500.000 views, Shmooky and Nenad
Awww !!!! ❤
Nenad Bach Cuteness overload! I have many possums in my backyard and we put up nesting places for them. We feed them and they also feed from our many fruit trees. They are so lovely.

Yes they are marsupial and almost 1000 comments say exactly opposite of what you see as ugly, we see as beautiful. Shmooky is one of the most beautiful animals I have ever seen!
I had a pet opossum once. Named her Percy. She lived almost six years which I hear is pretty old for an Opossum.
all the animal lovers i respect you very much cause the love that you people show towards these animals shows that there is still humanity left in the world
hats off
+Justin Harrell Shmooky NEVER bit me!
Nenad Bach
I can believe that- Opossums do bear their teeth when threatened, but that's just a bluff.
What a cute cuddly guy. Apples are a sweet treat. So nice you treat him so well. What a lil love.
Aww... If I didn't have Guinea Pigs and lived in the UK... My house would have a couple of these darlings running around.
Oh I love these animals! This one is adorable. Like feeding them grapes. Thank you for sharing!
Cute possum I love how beautiful and gentle the possum is and the owner so patient. We need more great people like him.🌈

What a cutie!
Been brushed too! How pretty! Opossums are sweethearts...
this tlacuache is so beautiful
What a great vid. I had an opposum for about 2 years myself. A male that was abandoned as a baby. He had congenital issues and would not have survived in the wild. He died a few months ago and watching your video reminds me of how amazing it was to take care of such a wonderful creature.
This possum takes food out of his hands gentler than some dogs
Shmooky is lovely! Very nice coloring!
+belladonna1999 Thank you for sharing. Yes, photo would be great!
Chubbiest opossum I have ever seen so far. Make it look so cute a fluffy looking.
