I'm in southeast Louisiana and I have a Red Wolf who has come within 50 feet of me on 5 separate occasions in the last month. He smells the possums which live in a tree line near my house. His head is huge. And he's definitely at least 80 pounds. But I think he's about 100 to 110. And he's getting less afraid of me when I chase him away.

They were going extinct, so the last dozen or so were rounded up and shipped to an island in NC. Or so it was thought... But now, there have been some coyotes down here which have recently been shown to have some Red Wolf DNA. And that means not ALL of the Red Wolves were taken away back then. Some remained in Louisiana and probably Texas. And apparently, they lived on and are now breeding with coyotes. I'm pretty sure the one I have encountered was a pure Red Wolf due to his size and boldness. And, the fact that even though we have 2 separate coyote packs in my immediate area - he hunts alone.

The animal I saw was the size of a german shepherd. Looked the same as the red wolf pictures I see on google He looked like he weighed at least 70 pounds or so. Tall and long

As far to my knowledge and official reports, Florida has no wild red wolves. Also the Florida black wolf was a subspecies of red wolf which is now extinct. They were not big either, about the size of a Labrador.

Me and my daughter has a not so nice encounter with a red wolf. It charged after my daughter, but I scared him/her off, and then the wolf bit another person who was in the same area on the shoe. Thankfully the 3 of us were ok, but I don't think things went over so well for the wolf unfortunately

I've got two I feed that are definitely red wolf hybrids and one that appears to be a Mexican Gray wolf hybrid in Texas.
