Thanks for this informative video. I did use Amazon's free ISBN and was disappointed to find out that the "look inside" feature is not available in this case, which can be an issue. Something to keep in mind.
Awesome! So if we use Amazon KDP ISBN and later decide to sell it elsewhere, can we purchase another ISBN for the same book or does Amazon now own your entire book? :-)
Great stuff. How to protect the books intellectual property after writing but before publishing. I'm concerned sharing with editors and formatters and want to protect.
hi! can i get a US isbn even though im not residing in US and not a US citizen, but planning to publish my book on amazon since most of my audience are from the US. Thanks for your answer!
Since I published my first novels through KDP and took advantage of their included ISBN but NOW I wish to expand to other places like Barnes and Noble and others... HOW do I make that happen after purchasing new ISBN's? Will I need to remove my books from KDP and re-load them with the new number or have I blown my chance altogether? Not sure how to move forward...
sorry I meant to ask, do you refer to ebooks or prnt books? I have just checked on my own print book and once an free isbn is assigned and I cannot change to my own ISBN, So I think that would mean you would have to unpblish and uploaded a new book, exactly the same with your own isbn and publish that one. A pain. I would only consider this if perhaps I am going to recover, but even then a pain with reviews etc. Perhaps going forward with any paperbacks use your own isbns, woith ebooks it does not matter just publish them whereever as you do not have to use an isbn for ebooks, but you can if you want. IDEA bunlde print books togthere in sets as paperback collections and using your own isbn publish those. Not ideal but an option
When I learned the pros of owning my ISBNs, I invested in ISBNs, unpublished my books on Amazon, added my own ISBNs and republished them on Amazon can publish them wherever else I want them to be available.
So, i understand that you need a separate ISBN number for hardbound, paperback, one for audio and one for e-reading. But what I am wondering is if you need a separate one if you are going to be doing a special edition of your book and you want it to be customized and leather/antique bound. Thoughts?
The reason i am wondering is because, I have several books printed already in standard format for hardbound, but I also wanted a few collectables in leatherboudn
The last thing you mentioned; that barcode generator. I wanted to know whether it is original ISBN number? Can I use this as an authentic ISBN on my book?
So if I get an ISBN through Amazon Kindle or ingramsparks does that mean my book as a whole has to be exclusive to that sight or is it that I just need to use a different ISBN ?
you never covered whether I need an isbn for my audible book? I am in Canada and already self-published and use 2 of the isbns but should I have a separate one for the audible edition?
You don't ISBN if you just want to publish your ebook on Amazon. You can publish wide using Free ISBN provided by the self-publishing platform. It is recommended to have your own ISBN for ebook if you are publishing wide, as ISBN will connect ebook available on different marketplaces together. Also, search engine recognizes ebook by its ISBN too.
From what I have found online, most recommendations is no, nuless the book is going to be on a bookstore shelf. Who else would see it other than a person browsing pre purchase?
I have a problem. I bough three ISBN from a company and the first ISBN it shows as the word Trial and I have been asking him to fix it. It’s been two weeks and no response. How can I generate the label myself since the information is there. Do u know how
Hey I'm debating buying my ISBN and just printing my book myself, and selling it on my Amazon account. I wouldn't be using Amazon's kdp stuff though. I created an LLC that I can use as my publisher as well. I sell used books on amazon, and sometimes when the lowest price is less than what I'm selling mine, Amazon will de-activate my listing until I reduce my price to their lowest. It's unnerving that they do that. They always seem to favor the buyer with all decisions. I'm worried that might happen. Any suggestions anyone?
Hi Kindlepreneur! I have been trying to list my board book on Amazon using my ISBN, and they keep rejecting it saying that I need a SKU or UPC and that I need to send them a FS1 certificate. I keep telling them that an ISBN is all that is needed, but they won't listen. Am I right? What can I do to get them to list my book using the ISBN?
If I go for a free isbn with kdp and then later decide to publish with other outlets, can just I buy a new isbn for those editions, even though the book and cover are unchanged? And then the same book is on sale through different outlets at the same time with different isbns.
First do you mean a second edition? that being a new version with reasonable changes? if yes then a new ISBN is required for each Version. If you mean same book different publisher the you are making it harder for yourself and potentially confusing for the reader. Same title different ISBNs whats that mean, which one shoud I buy. Exaggertaed but you see what I mean hopefully. The simplest and safest way is to buy a block for ISBNs and always use one for each book UNLESS you are certainly going to only use one platform.
Thank you for your videos and thank you for letting people share some ideas here , it has helped me reach over $300,000 in trading by age 24! Thanks . Keep the videos coming. 👍🏽
Thanks for your video. Many mention ISBN, but few have explained it all in such a concise video!
Thanks for this informative video. I did use Amazon's free ISBN and was disappointed to find out that the "look inside" feature is not available in this case, which can be an issue. Something to keep in mind.
So if i use the ISBN amazon gives me, for my paperback, consumers wont be able to use the 'look inside' feature?
This is what im learning. I dont think you can post additional photos or anything that you can do with A+ content @@EmilByriel76
Awesome! So if we use Amazon KDP ISBN and later decide to sell it elsewhere, can we purchase another ISBN for the same book or does Amazon now own your entire book? :-)
Do we need a final version of the book to apply for ISBN?
Is it better to have your own name as publisher, or a publishing company? What's important about that?
Great stuff. How to protect the books intellectual property after writing but before publishing.
I'm concerned sharing with editors and formatters and want to protect.
This is probably a dumb question, can I use a generated barcode and apply it to a print book to self publish it to Barnes and Nobles for instance?

This is really an interesting question 🤔
Do they sell ISBNs ?
I thought Amazon does it for free....
I'm a newbie on Amazon KDP ...
Any vital information about it would be well cherished🙏

In filling out the form for My Identifiers, do I need to 1) upload the cover image and 2) provide a bar code?
Thank you, Dave. How can I get an ISBN for an International publisher?

Didn't see the link to the bar code generator on the description
Please could show me the video that helps you to add your own ISBN to your book. Any step by step guide
Thanks 🙏
This is probably a very stupid question, but do I need to self-publish the book before uploading it onto KDP?
Excellent tips, thank you
Thanks for your help Dave.
The last thing you mentioned; that barcode generator. I wanted to know whether it is original ISBN number? Can I use this as an authentic ISBN on my book?
Concise, informative and easy to understand. Great Vid.
So if I get an ISBN through Amazon Kindle or ingramsparks does that mean my book as a whole has to be exclusive to that sight or is it that I just need to use a different ISBN ?
Yes, I would like to know as well.
You said to make one whenever you make a physical book, why should I do this though?
Can i choose to just have Amazon KDP generate an ISBN number for my Kindle version only, 0pting to purchase my own at Bowker for the print versions?
I'm a new publisher w Amazon. I want to have my book sold at multiple companies. Those companies will print the book?
I'm a new author and I would like to know if I use the same ISBN for every book I will publish on Amazon or is it a new ISBN for each book? Thanks.
You need an ISBN for new stories plus even if it's the same story but paperback, hard cover, and ebooks need different ISBNs.
you never covered whether I need an isbn for my audible book? I am in Canada and already self-published and use 2 of the isbns but should I have a separate one for the audible edition?
Yes, you need to have a separate ISBN code for every version of your publication: kindle, audiobook, printable, large-text version, etc.
Exactly the info I needed. Thanks!
You are a legend. I have been looking at buying ISBN numbers and I thought I had to buy the barcode to.
Awe, thanks and glad you found this.
Very well explained. Thanks a lot Kindlepreneur
i dont think its worth paying this much as an indie publisher, great video btw
You are amazing!!!!

Amazon Kdp said that I needed one.
Can you make a similar video on ISBNs for ebooks covering KDP vs wide.
You don't ISBN if you just want to publish your ebook on Amazon. You can publish wide using Free ISBN provided by the self-publishing platform. For journals, magazines, and newspapers check for ISSN.
It’s not giving me the “free kdp isbn” option. What can I do?
What if I only one and ebook self publish book do I need a ISBN?
can I do this barcode for free even if I don't do it in the US through and not through Bowker?

you mention digit 4 the single digit for region being 1-5, mine is 8, I wonder what that means?
You don't need to worry about ISBN region as it is an international unique number for a book.
Perfect! Thank you so so much
Thankyou, this is so helpful

You don't actually need an ISBN for physical books. You need it for brick and mortar and online bookstores.
Yes you do
