Brent Laywell oh thanks! I have an acurite weather station as well but it's not on weather underground.

How is that mast to mast mount holding up? Is it bent or has it broken yet in the wind? I'm considering using the same mount for mine and doing it just like you did.

Mounted mineto a 6 ft. length of PVC secured inside a 10ft gavanized pipe attached to an 8x8 fence post secured in cement. It sits about 18 ft. high this way. I used various pieces of mast mount hardware I had laying around, and screwed together a wide L-bracket from a scrap PVC block and a scrap piece of plastic peg board, then mounted the weather station to that.

According to the local meteorologist, to get accurate windspeed and direction the anemometer must be at least 33 feet height and clear of any obstructions (building, tree etc.). Wind whipping around buildings trees etc. change the integrity of the data you receive.

I understand totally. Did u personally put yours at 33 feet? Just curious

@@jimmyinglish2669 No longer have one, but originally it was actually 36 ft when finished.

    Hey Brent!
Nice job. I've got the model #01536. I got it for a Christmas gift [bought at COSTCO] and just installed it put up this month. I mounted my sensor/station to a schedule 80 grey electrical conduit that you can get at the big box hardware store. Cut off about 24" and fastened one end to the mounting bracket and the other to the sensor. Then fastened the mounting bracket to a 4" X 4" post on the top of our patio cover with stainless steel 4" hose clamps, not the "imported" kind, neither. My sensor looks real nice up there [about 15' in the air] and works great. Now, we'll have to wait for winter to see how well the rain gauge works.
BTW, have you had to calibrate your rain gauge, or did it work perfectly out of the box?
    C ya Brent!
    James

The rain gauge works fantastic. Did not have to calibrate it!. My advice is don't mess with the rain gauge, you can mess it up real easy and never get it set correctly. It may read a little extra rain 0.10 but never more than a 0.05. As soon as a rain events starts, even a small rain event the rain gauge will start registering .01 Put you cheap old fashion rain gauge near the weather station and the first few good rains compare the two readings. Like I said the old fashion gauge may read a tad more but it's not worth taking a chance of screwing up the weather station.

      Brent,
We had a bit of a sprinkle this morning, .13 according to the sensor. I have one of those glass tube rain gauges not far from it and it registered .20, but that was not taking into account the "surface tension" of the water in the tube. So, like you said, I'm not going to mess with the gauge. It's good enough for me.
Thanks once again for an informative video!

we go our firs rain for the Month of July today. the 5in1 showed 1.25 The glass tube near the ground and close to the 5in1 showed 1.50 but the glass tube had a leaf in it so the 5in1 was close but the glass tube probably regestered a little more than the 5in1

      Brent,
I went to your "...wunderground.com" page. Very impressive! I have yet to get involved in that portion of the hobby. I have 2 neighbors that I found on "findu.com". Apparently, you can have your weather station on several websites. I think that Davis has a site as well, but it must be Davis equipment that you use!

Top rail fence post fits in the bottom of the weather station.

I've read on the Acu-Rite forum owners complaining that the temperature "spikes" when the sun hits the back of the 5-1 in the first part of the day in late Spring thru Fall is JUST AS inACU-Wrong! I have a 01538HD and that thing is WRONG by as much as 8 to 10 degrees from late June thru September here in So Cal. While my Ambient Pro 5 in 1 that individual sensors is SPOT ON! This company should change it's name to Acu-Wrong. Ps - I had a Acu-Rite 3-1 Wind Speed only with Temp / Humidity that crapped out in 15 months (so "too bad" on the warranty) and they've NEVER had replacement sensor modules in stock. All it is now is a $119 door stop!

instead of using that plastic pipe, you can use a 6" length of 3/4" Sch40 Galvanized steel water pipe, avail pre-cut at Home Depot, $4.

these weatherstations are junk! went through several sensors and even a complete new unit n always the same result. the daytime temperature in the sunshine is always between 6-9 degrees too hot! also, the wind gauge has never been close to right. has never registered more than 20 mph even during hurricane harvey! also, if any bug or spider gets in the rain gauge, then that is screwed. i also have mine mounted at about 8 ft.(3 ft above the minimum height!).

I suggest using a thin screen over the rain gauge. Should be secured to avoid being blown off in high winds. Also, a few rods around the the outer edges, will keep birds from landing and pooping in it. The odds of a bird pooping in flight and hit it are extremely slim. Even at that, I used a retractable mast. It can be lowered, cleaning and inspected in about 6 to 8 minutes.

Mine has worked flawlessly for 2 years now. Yours is probably not level, not pointing the right direction, and definitely not high enough. Sorry you don't know what your doing. Make it level, point it south, and get it at least as high as you are after your bong hit.

Although some replies were snarky I will honestly tell you the wind sensor needs to be 30 feet above ground with no obstructions to be anywhere close to the reported wind/gust numbers from the NWS/NOAA. This is a standard set by the industry and all sensors will be restricted if not followed. Also any tree line nearby will skew the speed and direction. It’s a pain in the neck to get it that high but that’s what it is. The Atlas 7-in-1 has a better design IMO. I use the wind extension kit and remote battery kit. On this unit I can also tweak/offset the values if I can prove they’re off the mark. GL!
