@@regulardamian6939 dude thank you so much. I've been requesting a review of Evil Dead 2 every year for the last 4 years I think. Finally get to hear his thoughts on one of my favorite films. Again, thank you.
I was 21 when this film came out and saw it in the theaters. I had never seen the Evil Dead films, so this was my first experience with Sam Rami and Bruce Campbell. I fell in love with this film and not long after I rented Evil Dead 1 and 2 from the video store to see the events leading up to it. This is one of my favorite trilogies.
I'll always remember randomly renting this with my family, not knowing exactly what it was, and then laughing together all the way through it. There's still nothing quite like this movie.
Wow ending this Halloween special with one of the greatest films ever? Nice choice Chris. Also as always I’m bummed about the special ending. It’s also my favorite thing you do on the channel.
Upon watching the Evil Dead trilogy, one thought immediately popped into my mind: "Why has no one ever called up Sam Raimi to make a He-Man and the Masters of the Universe movie?"
@@jesseowenvillamor6348 So being rude is asking a rhetorical question rather than calling someone a jackass. Gotcha. The fact of the matter is that we're not in a position to know every offer that came Raimi's way.
I saw this film 3 times in the theater. I loved Evil Dead 1 and 2 and this movie delivered. Ash : "Well hello Mister Fancypants. Well, I've got news for you pal, you ain't leadin' but two things, right now: Jack and shit....And Jack left town". I use that line to this day.
It makes my heart very happy to see Army of Darkness getting the love that it deserves. Also, my family personally knew the guy who conducted the score for this and Evil Dead II. His name was Dennis Tini. He passed away a few weeks ago, and he was a genius musician, and an all around great guy. The Detroit music community misses him dearly.
One of my absolute favorites! I really like the Ash vs Evil Dead series too. It felt like such a good continuation of Army of Darkness. The ending to that is perfect for the the entire Evil Dead saga if you know what I mean.
Joseph LoDuca’s score for this film is also something that deserves a shoutout. Elfman’s contribution with March of the Dead is awesome, but the rest of the score by LoDuca is fantastic and easily my favorite of his work. Army of Darkness is not only my favorite of the trilogy, it’s one of my favorite films of all time. It’s the perfect pick me up and I’m glad it was finally reviewed for this year’s Halloween special.
I remember going to Blockbuster with my aunt in the early 90s. I saw the VHS box art of Army Of Darkness, not knowing it was last movie in a trilogy lol. I had no idea till I got to high school in 96 and my friend was like oh yeah that's Evil Dead trilogy. I always wondered why the begging made no sense lol. Awesome movie.
@@SDfan2002when you made that comment I looked up the IMDb review and it's 6.9. That's really hard to believe considering most people I know would say multiverse of madness was terrible.
While I couldn't help but loving it due to how funny it is & how it incorporates so many genre trappings, I admit to leaving the theater wishing it hadn't quite so drastically abandoned the more grizzly horror aspects that defined the first two. I saw the original over the winter of 83/84, and it remains my fave.
Thanks Chris considering I don't like horror films the fact that your specials are considered must watch for me is a sign that this is something special
In the 90s, it took me years to find out what this movie's title was. Especially as a fan of MS-DOS FPS shooters, PC developers always love to insert quotable one-liners and references of these films especially in the case of Army of Darkness. Sam Raimi truly was a master of merging Horror and Comedy as one entity and for that I will always admire Sam Raimi's contribution within the Saturn community. Hail to the King, baby! 😎
one thing i've come to admire about Sam Raimi is he can capture the feel of older films - having a stagey, elevated feel versus the naturalism that has overtaken most modern works; but he does it in a way that has heart.
One of my alltime favorite movies. I'll never forget when I first found this, 15 years old, was scrolling cable at 2am when the family was out, stumbled upon this and had a blast, been in rotation every single year since. Absolutely hilarious. “You sir, are not one of my vassals, who are you?” - King Henry “Who wants to know?” - Ash Williams “I am Henry the red, duke of Shael, lord of the northlands and leader of its peoples!” - King Henry “Well Hello Mr Fancy Pants. I got news for you, pal. You ain’t leadin’ but two things right now, Jack and Shit, and Jack left town.” - Ash Williams
I went to see this at a movie theater in February 1993, right when it came out, based solely on the trailer, which did not mention it was a sequel to the Evil Dead movies, which I had heard of, but had not yet seen. I was 20 years old at the time, so I remember my friends as a kid talking about how much they loved Evil Dead 1 and 2, but I hadn't gotten around to seeing them yet. Anyway, I loved Army of Darkness and was completely oblivious to it being Part 3 of a trilogy for years. I finally got around to watching the first two Evil Dead movies about 15 years later and then rewatched Army of Darkness in context and it obviously made the experience even better. Also, as a side note, on the strength of Bruce Campbell's performance in Army of Darkness, I immediately jumped in on The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. when it came on later in 1993. Loved that show, too.
I tried to convince my friends to come to this movie with me when it came out. I ended up watching it alone in the theatre with a few other strangers. Well, it's their loss, I had great laughs and left the cinema with a grin in my face.
I made an Ash cosplay for a local convention, and people seemed to turn their noses up when I said it was the Army of Darkness version and my fave in the series. I don't know why it gets such disdain! I love it to bits, and I love how each movie in the series has its own personality and genre!
I often describe Army of Darkness as "The biggest budget, low-budget film you'll ever see." Always a good bit of fun to show it to someone for the first time... especially after having them watch the first two.
Army of darkness is my fav in this trilogy. But I had a strange way of watching it..cause I saw Army 1st then Evil dead 2 then 1 lol. So I watched it in reverse order as a younger kid. I love history, love medival settings, love sword and magic fantasy and Army of darkness has it all. Bruce Campbell is firing on all cylinders in this movie..damn Masterpiece
Evil Dead 2 is the best of the trilogy. But Army of Darkness officially turned Ash Williams into the reluctant jerk of a hero we all know and love. Groovy!
I am a huge fan of the first two movies (the second one is a near perfect film), the two newer ones, and the TV show which has one of the greatest endings ever but I never could get into Army of Darkness. It sticks out from the rest to me as an attempt to appeal to a more general movie going audience which is fine but it just feels so different from the rest of the films that I don't really consider it part of the franchise, it feels more like the made for TV kids' cartoon version of Evil Dead.
My Halloween costumes are always a twist on a classic character. Two years ago I took my graduation outfit and made a grad day ghostface. Last year I was Michael Myers takes a vacation. It’s always fun to do a little twist
