To see this made my day! What a beautiful thing! Selka sweetheart, may you raise many more surrogates that are in need of motherly love. Thank you Monterey Bay Aquarium, for sharing this with us.
incredible the work they have there! I love to see them and hear your voices babies. thank you for rescuing them and preparing them for their habitat!! what beautiful creatures ❤
Otters are a social species that tend to live in groups. It must be terrifying for a baby to be all on its own, calling for its mother who is probably never going to return.
I cannot geet enough video's of the otters. Please keep them coming and longer!! I know the other ones you have are great also,r but I am sure the otters might be close to the lead in popularity, Thanks again.
I've often wondered how is surviving in the ocean similar to surviving in a lake like pool? Yes the pup is learning how to find his or her own food & taking care of their fur maintenance, Yet, isn't there an immense difference surviving in a vast ocean with various temperatures and fluctuating weather patterns? For example, how is diving down in a pool similar to finding food in a vast ocean? In the aquarium it is a lot more forgiving then out in the wild. I do believe instincts can take over although I can imagine it must be incredibly intimidating and unbelievably confusing.
Adorable!! ❤❤❤ Question: 1. Do you release otters back to the wild in pairs so they are not completely alone in the world. 2. How do you train them to fear and hide from predictors like sharks?
From MBA videos it seems they release the pup alone. Especially for males coz territorial. Idk about predators but MBA track their released pups. Most are thriving, few like Selka attacked by shark so MBA pulled her back. Feb 2022
God that is so wonderful.
Between you guys, Ocean Conservation Namibia, and the Vancouver Aquarium’s sea mammal rescue programme, 2020 has been rendered much more doable.

Thank you so much for your kind words and support, Shawmarie!
I suspect the fur puffing is a crucial skill for any sea otter🤗
I can watch these all day.. it’s so cute how the baby copies everything mama does
So cute! By the end the pup is almost as large as Selka when she is carrying him on her belly!
Yes!! Motherly love❤️

❤
But doesn't the mom otter pine when you take the pup away to release it? Or does mom reach a stage of disinterest anyway?
From what I understand, sea otter mothers only raise their pups for a relatively short while in the wild, so it’s normal for them
Squeeeeeeeee
I think 774 says Meep!🥰 (oh, sry - you mean you say sqeee, well me too 🤗)
the only ☹ thing is that agent mom otter had to be separated from her adopted child
Selka &other surrogate moms have plenty pups to rescue 😊 feb 2022
has any humans try to teach those pups survival skills themselves?
Yes, MBA did that decades ago &one of those pup is Rosa. It's not working, so ONLY MBA have surrogacy program. Feb 2022

There's a live stream of orphaned pup Joey on marine mammal rescue centre channel its worth watching if you LOVE otter pups
The baby directly called Selka "Momma" 😀
It's amazing how the baby followed and copied what Selka did and taught him.
A job well done, a little life saved, a lot of love all around. What a joyful story with a truly happy ending. Thank you for sharing. Love, Diane
every year I donate my state tax return to the California sea otters. growing up in the Bay Area I always loved to go to the aquarium to see them!

I can raise a sea otter pup. I can pretend to be its mom and leave my belly to it.

Maybe the pub`s mom was in the sea to get some food and left her baby temporarily on the beach?
The rescuers watch/ search for some time for mom before take the pup out of sea/ beach 😊 feb 2022
Good job Selka and pup
