Awesome build. I know Garth from way back Tuff Truck / Woodpecker days and he is a legend. Great to see the total professional build of a master builder. So much knowledge has gone into that build. It's a beast!!!
That is a fantastic build, it's great seeing builds that people have put a LOT of thought and custom work into, instead of just bolting on gear from the Sponsor Of The Day.
awesome build stefan. the best offroad youtuber i know thats into touring and hard wheeling. it would be great to get more detail on the slider boxes and how they drive. id imagine they would be quiet noisy. also expand on your quote that engineers are no longer into working with custom builds, too many politics i assume
thank you. I wasn't sure either how Lux drives with slide boxes, but quite surprised and not noisy. Most engineers I know stopped engineering 4WD due to much police pressure; a few were taken to court (and won), but it was too much hassle for them. It's sad to see what Australia has become over the past 20 years. I'm not a political person and usually refrain from this type of comment, but we sadly have become the number-one Nanny country.
Did you investigate options to get rid of the front leaf springs Stefan? I’m currently working with an engineer to install a three link/ coilover setup in a first Gen 4Runner and luckily have a supportive engineer.
Wow an amazing build. Love the slider boxes and the mounting of the winch, reminds me of the old front mounted landrover PTO winch that could be run under the vehicle through the chassis to actually pull the vehicle backwards. Incredible build Stefan, thanks for sharing the walk through.
What a cracking build been waiting a lonngggg time to see this rig run down. Hope to see you and your rig on the tracks if not even go for a wheel together sometime
ah fair enough, my blackvue finally died after almost 10 years and im looking for something new. what i want is 2 channel camera but with remote recorder box. besides overpriced blackvue which is almost $1000, no one seems to be making them
What are the leaf springs details? N80 leaves in the back , standard? N70 leaves in the front, standard? Would Garth give up the specs and drawings of the slide boxes?
I build he Hilux because I like how the leaves behave highly underrated unless you have a comp truck I prefer it makes the car very stable and predictable and rear axle cant drive in to or under obstacles
Here in Vic some guys have been defected on the trails by police on dirt bikes. Best of luck with it. Look forward to more videos with the new play truck.
Would love to hear the engineers justification for allowing suck an increase in wheel track. I know you havent gone over 50mm track increase on the jeep diffs you have used. But i have always been told by engineers in NSW that it doesnt matter what diffs/axles are used, you still cant go more than 50mm increase from the factory spec for the original vehicle. The engineer i used last said he has had a lot to do with track correction kits for the 79 series cruiser, and as they have to be over 50mm wider to match the front, he hasnt been able to find away the authroities will allow it without being a second stage manufacture, pre rego.
There is no track increase. We replaced the complete undercarriage, and it's the normal Jeep track width. Only works if you replace complete axle housings. The track width increase is limited because of the extra load you put on components if you increase more than 25mm per side. That is not the case here, as there is no increase.
@AlloffroadAu Yeah I mentioned that you haven't increased the Jeeps track width, but it isn't a jeep. When I got my GQ patrol engineered with GU diffs under it I wasn't allowed to go more than 50mm from the factory GQ track width. He did however let me upgrade the GVM from 2.8t to 3.3t without any specific components or extra tests like brake and swerve tests. It's a little frustrating how each engineer 'interprets' the rules differently. Anyway, not trying to be negative on such an epic build. It would be great to see more rigs like this able to be driven on the road.
@@bennyjahmin3953 if you change the whole axle assembly the car takes on the rating/characteristics of the new axles I know that from from several engineers I used. Yep always depends what the engineer is willing to sign off on but as I said thats the same info I have received from quite a few engineers
@AlloffroadAu The example I was given from an engineerr where this doesn't work is if you were to put something like those diffs under a suzuki sierra. Did you have to keep the wheel base the same as the jeep so it didn't affect the Ackerman jeep designed into their undercarriage?
In Victoria I cannot even get my LN106 engineered to have 33" tyres. Every engineer says you cannot exceed vsb14 with is 2" bigger tyres and 2" lift which equates to the 3" vsb14 limit and it does not matter even if you can pass a lane change and brake tests.
@@AlloffroadAu They may be done from a new vehicle pre rego. You can do upgrades on a new vehicle pre registration but if it is already registered then you are not allowed to get the same upgrades done. Just goes to show how stuipid the rules are. I did however ask a guy who was chief engineer for Holden about the pre rego builds and he did say that they are actually not allowed but I guess once Vicroads certifies the vehicle for road use then perhaps the responsibility is on them. I don't know where common sense is. It all seems illogical to me.
G2 housing axles certified for 37", 35 spline chromoly axles, complete braking system for much heavier JK, upgraded brake booster, swerve test and brake plate test
She’s definitely a beautiful build!
The algorithm pushed you my way, subbed mate, amazing build.
I need to watch this at least 20 times to remember everything. Great build and video.
Glad you enjoyed it
That's a proper build mate well done can't wait to see it in action

Couldn't agree more!
Well done getting a build like this engineered, not an easy feat, so much stuff running around without certification and dangerous. Amazing work gents
Will be good to see you back into the technical driving again.
Great work as usual Stefan. Really in depth and well presented. Thank you.
thank you
That is a fantastic build, it's great seeing builds that people have put a LOT of thought and custom work into, instead of just bolting on gear from the Sponsor Of The Day.
Thank you very much!
Been years waiting for this episode
looks sick。 loving it
thank you

Thanks for the thorough description. Hope you have many years of enjoyment out of the build.
I hope so too!
Cool build 👍🏻
thank you
What an incredible build. First class.
Can't wait for the vids.
Congrats
Did you investigate options to get rid of the front leaf springs Stefan? I’m currently working with an engineer to install a three link/ coilover setup in a first Gen 4Runner and luckily have a supportive engineer.
no as I mentioned previously I wanted to keep leave and for a play truck leave works very well. 3 or 4 link coil over very different car
I have been waiting for this update for so long, currently building a LN60 myself.
Wow an amazing build. Love the slider boxes and the mounting of the winch, reminds me of the old front mounted landrover PTO winch that could be run under the vehicle through the chassis to actually pull the vehicle backwards. Incredible build Stefan, thanks for sharing the walk through.

WOW!!!!! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING
This is so rewarding
Mint build!! Something different to the normal.
Defiantky need to see Garths rat rod in back ground though ha
fantastic build . well done all involved
Thank you kindly
Here I was thinking Jon Jon's Hilux had got a few upgrades 🤣
That's what I thought initially when I saw silvery blue xtra cab...
Nice work and what a beast it turned out to be. Congrats
Thanks 👍
What a cracking build been waiting a lonngggg time to see this rig run down. Hope to see you and your rig on the tracks if not even go for a wheel together sometime
pm me or hit me up on FB
Incredible build ! looking forward to content in the hilux.
thank you
Insane. Need some wheelin videos now 👍
For sure!!
what a great build ! love the rear mounted winch. what dash cam are you using in this hilux ?
It's a Vifo I received to test but I'm not to impressed would not recommend
ah fair enough, my blackvue finally died after almost 10 years and im looking for something new. what i want is 2 channel camera but with remote recorder box. besides overpriced blackvue which is almost $1000, no one seems to be making them
Superb! 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️’s. Congratulation’s Stephan.
Glad you enjoyed it

That braking test sounds extremely difficult for older vehicles. Sounds like most old cars would fail standard.
yes no way any stock older Hilux would have past the Plate Brake test
slider box amazing but hows the load capacity when using slider box?
it’s not carrying load it’s a play truck, but to answer not sure
Omg. That rear spring slider ......
Sweet build to be sure! Was there a specific reason you went with the extra cab as opposed to a standard or double cab? Keep up the excellent work👍
yep the less panels the better but single cab is to small for me need some leg space and space to store cameras
That makes a lot of sense. Thank you again!
Whats the reason to have gone leafs over coils?
I build he Hilux because I like how the leaves behave highly underrated unless you have a comp truck I prefer it makes the car very stable and predictable and rear axle cant drive in to or under obstacles
Awesome build. Great to have it all compliant. When you take the guards off on the trails it's actually illegal isn't it?
possibly, but that a risk I need to take, where we play are not many cops though and I can put them back on in 15 min
Here in Vic some guys have been defected on the trails by police on dirt bikes. Best of luck with it. Look forward to more videos with the new play truck.
Yea would be no need to take flares off in the VHC so would be no issue
Nice job, whats the ground clearance under the diffs?
should measure that, oversight

Great machine 👍👍
I love it
do they have youtube channel how they built D’ lux?
nop

Don't ask for any logical approach of any government agency in Australia
Who was the engineer that you used
He asked me not to name him as he stopped engineering 4wd’s
A noob question, what was requirements for legally fitting 37" tyre's, it's another killer build you have
Pretty sure it was the G2 axle housings, and probably the upgraded brake boosters.
G2 housing axles certified for 37", 35 spline chromoly axles, complete braking system for much heavier JK, upgraded brake booster, swerve test and brake plate test
Why not coilover it and 3/4link the whole thing
na I like to keep the old-school feel and driving experience just way stronger now
Why don't you built a full custom ATV instead of this bull shit?
can’t drive them in Australia unless it’s on private property. I love a good old Hilux.
@@AlloffroadAu nice. newer knew that.
good luck with your Hilux!!
