Wonderful. Wonderful. Japanese, Korean and Chinese playing music together. All top-rated performers. No war, no war please. Work to get along. Please.
yeah beautiful.
Ordinary people of various nations do often work to get along; it's certain oppressive systems of government that are the problem. This music was also played in Nazi concentration camps like Auschwitz, so beautiful can be used by governments as a distraction. It alone isn't the answer.
How Mendelssohn would’ve loved this! Wonderful. Japanese and Chinese musicians playing together with expertise and joy. Thank you so, so much.
Wow.. What an All-Star of Asian Strings!
If you can find it search for the recording done in 1979 with the Cleveland & Tokyo quartets. It is a transcendental experience.
I have never heard or seen more passionate playing and doing such a distinctive enormous honour to Felix Mendelssohn's most celebrated composition, in which he often participated at viola or violin.
The first violinist is fantastic here.
He is Korean Violinist Young Uck Kim, and he taught Bomsori at Seoul National University.
I love the little slight smiles that come. on the faces of the players at various times as the music unfolds its joyous message. "Felix", indeed.
That's my dearest mentor Maestro Young Uck Kim!
Wow.
My violin teacher was his student
@@henrykszeryng5900 "student of his" as in "his student".
Wow! Just incredible. They are all virtuosos playing in unison with such perfect timing. To see the joy of the music is YoYo Ma’s face. He is beyond gifted.
YoYo Ma looks so natural playing, you can't tell he's playing from the rear, or just sitting naturally.
Yes, he plays as though he was born playing the cello; totally natural to him, and utterly enjoyable.
Man. Great performance. and great shoulders.
If only all teenage angst was so beautifully expressed! (RM was 16 when he composed this octet.)
This is a very nice recording with great artists. I love it!
Maestro Young Uck Kim wow you've come a long way since we played in National Orchestral association with Leon Barzin
Great! Every performer is playing more than best!
This is insane. Thanks for uploading.
Nice to see/hear Yo-Yo and Tsutsumi together. So awesome
😮Thank you for sharing this wonderful performance ! Bravo to Maestro Kim and everyone !
wow what an amazing rare footage! Thank you so much!
Wonderful. and besides,, this recording is from 89 and no one applauses after that(!) 1st mov. Really impressive and thumbs up for the Japanese audience!!
I wonder if Yo-Yo Ma was the organizer and inspiration of this tremendous performance? He looks very pleased in places, for excellent reasons, and greatly admiring the composer's gifts along the way!
yoyoma being giant even playing the Cello two❤️
"Felix Mendelssohn's Octet in E-flat major, Op. 20, was composed in the autumn of 1825 and completed on October 15, when the composer was 16. He wrote it as a birthday gift for his friend and violin teacher Eduard Ritz (1802-1832); it was slightly revised in 1832 before the first public performance on 30 January 1836 at the Leipzig Gewandhaus."
Inspired, passionate and concise, lucid and full of awesome joy!
excellent stereo balance, great sound.
WONDERFUL.
Good show!
Third mvt 23:21
First mvt. 14:30 beautiful~
My favorite part of 1st movement is also there!!
What a bead of awesomeommity on this master stroke of sheer whatever....I don't think we'll ever know.
Thinking that young felix composed this at what...16?, 18?
I hear Felix Mendelssohn composed this String Octet at 16.
Thanks for the confirmation. He could've composed the Octet at 50...... but at 16? It's really hard to get one's head around that.
TheShadowfakx Sadly, he could not have composed it at age 50, as he was decomposing by that time. 8-(
Yes, I was merely implying that even at 50 or even 100 y.o. it is genius but at 16? it's unearthly.
+TheShadowfakx you would too if you were born in a rich, musical family, but i guess you need the ambition too
27:02 I'm just here comparing viola solos. Lol theirs is a more reserved balanced performance but this octet needs flair. Modern ones now do it complete justice specially under brostvyn with bpo but to think 2 centuries pass to get to that point. Still great.
Seriously? More flair?
Woohoo!
1) What a wonderfully complex score in the way the melody gets passed around from 2nd viola to 1st cello to 4th violin etc etc etc. 2) How perfectly this ensemble plays and with what joy! This is simply amazing!
Awesome! Going to see it tomorrow night at the music room in kitchener Ontario and I can't wait
Oh my god ive played this before adn i didnt even know, except i played the cello 2 part not the one Yo Yo Ma plays
+cpbritt yo yo ma is playing the cello 2 part.
Seems played to perfection. Sound and image not so great however. What a shame! In JAPAN !!!???? Congratulation to all musicians, and thank you for posting, anyway.
Answer the telephone. This one for me is, "I got a hemorrhoid". You know. Sing the first 24 bars. It will hit you like a truck.
I can't find another version that the 1st violin player was women for Mendelssohn:String Octet Op.20, please open that video. I really want to see that version

Extremely beautiful. Are there any one who can read Japanese Kanji in alphabet?? I want to see their performances. They are very impressive.
