She is an acclaimed singer. She was nominated for a Tony for her role in the original Dreamgirls on Broadway.
Remember she is the ORIGINAL Deena from Dream Girls on Broadway along with Jennifer Holiday who played Effie and Loretta Divine was Lorell which Beyonce, JHud and Aneka Noni Rose remade years later.
Sheryl Lee Ralph has been in the game for at least 30 years (movies, Broadway, AIDS philanthropists, etc.). Abbott Elementary is just one of her latest 😌

For those of us who are old enough to have seen this goddess of the Broadway stage in the original production of DREAMGIRLS where she originated the role of Deena Jones loosely based on Diana Ross and the rise of the success of the Supremes in Motown. This performance today takes us back to her show stopping performance in that show. Sheryl along with Loretta Devine and Jennifer Holliday caused multiple show stopping applause moments nightly at the Minskoff Theater with their dynamic performances. I saw this Show and Miss Ralph and her show sisters 11 times and watched Chaos and explosive applause each and every time I was there. Never before or after have I seen a show cast do that. And YES! She still has it!!
Thanks For Letting Us Know This. Because I Honestly Didn't Have A Clue🥰
Yes. I loved the play Dreamgirls. Also, Sheryl attended Rutgers University, Livingston with my sister before Broadway. She’s come a long way. Congrats to her!
I remember, seeing the original Dreamgirls on Broadway. That was only, because my late music high school teacher took us. The best experience ever.
DID U SEE THE RENDITION OF BOTH JENNIFER HOLIDAY AND HUDSON SINGING TOGETHER NOW THAT WAS A FEAT WORTH WATCHING
I saw that production of DREAMGIRLS in its pre Broadway run in Boston. It was phenomenal.
I also have to give recognition to that outstanding choir lending their vocal support to Mrs Sheryl Lee Ralph. They were absolutely amazing, too!

I loved this arrangement. The rhythmic marching emphasized, was key to her powerful delivery.
I've heard other arrangements and even sang it with a Jewish choir. I thought her arrangement started out too slow. It has a sort of a march beat up front, forceful, but she stretched that out. It worked better towards the end.

So ...this is all well and good, but it's not our national anthem 🙄
how? this is simply paying homage to to black people, its not like they replaced the national anthem, this just goes along with it, whats the issue?
@@tesserae582 idk T, maybe it's just the tradition aspect. And so many great singers who have stepped up to the plate in the past. Who can possibly forget Whitney Houston with her rendition that absolutely sent chills. Change can be good when it's necessary, but it's also comforting to have tradition and familiarity.... peace 🕊️
I finally found a post of her singing it. I was so disappointed by all the backlash online from the shallow minds. Bashing everything from the NFL to the media for allowing the song to be sung. Seems like any expression of Blackness is somehow divisive to a lot of people. I suggested they compare the lyrics of both and see which promotes divisiveness. I got no response as of yet.
Well, the act itself is sort of divisive, considering no other culture is represented with this anthem, especially considering that this was the only other “national” anthem was sung. It didn’t seem like the same treatment was given to Hispanics, Asians, Mexicans, etc. As a black individual myself, this just comes across as pandering and racial favoritism. At least the Star Spangled Banner would feature people of more than just one racial background. (“Feature” meaning we would see more than just one race shown on camera during the performance).
No one cares if someone has a certain culture based on there race or ethnicity, but the national anthem has nothing to do with race or ethnicity it is about all people of the United States coming together as one country and honoring our national anthem as one people not divided by skin color or race, it is about national pride in our country not a black or white country.
She DID THAT!!!!!!! Yesss Sheryl..Felt that in my soul!!! Gave me chills!

Gotta love the pro segregation of America right now. Everything is divided into racial and sexist boxes. Even this song and the flyover did this. Clown country.
WHY do we need TWO national anthems now? If we all feel compelled to be that divisive and practice such duality, then maybe we should go the entire distance and re-instate the separatist practices from the civil war and Jim Crow? Isn't that where we're headed now?.
