On this week’s episode of Economic Update, Professor Richard Wolff discusses the modern political history in the United Kingdom as Conservatives protect UK corporations and the rich by employing
"Distractions": First Brexit, and now Ukraine. We then turn to the latest worker uprising this time in Washington state, as workers at Boeing strike demanding better wages and benefits, and state government employees who are legally prohibited from striking are demanding better conditions as well by demanding better pay and conditions. We turn to the United Healthcare Corporation's latest profit-driven "pre-payment information" scheme, which disenfranchises people in need.
Finally, in an interview with Eric Blanc, a founder of the Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee (EWOC) we discuss its phenomenal success in helping workers across the economy learn about organizing, and access to labor unions for help with forming unions.

Unions don’t work because they incentivize laziness by a few employees that can’t get fired. That’s what has crush our schools. Why do private schools do so much better and they spend less per student? Toyota isn’t unionized in Japan and they constantly have better quality controls than gmc and ford. People be the best you could be and stop always expecting handouts.

You don't need to be a citizen to get health insurance in France. When my brother was an foreign exchange student in France he got health insurance. He was told "in France we don't allow people to be sick and not be able to seen by a doctor. " he payed =to 4$ for any percripion.
When it comes to everything that's gone on in Amerika since Nov 1963, Amerikans:
1) Pretend it never happened.
2) Or claim it "wasn't that bad " or
3) If it was that bad, it doesn't matter anymore.

Many union members aren't excited about it anymore. To stretch out and try to help struggling workers would be galvanizing I would think.

Hi, EWOC organizer and Wobbly here. Our orgs don't work together in an official capacity, but I know plenty of us are IWW members.
The IWW rejects DSA and UE because of the politics so I suppose they wouldn't collab with EWOC.

3 hours later I had a guy come to my house whom I never saw and I've been living here for 35 years telling me if I had change for a 20 I found that weird and odd I said to the guy why are you asking me for change in my house guy tells me cuz I want to play pool at the public park and I have no change to place a bet...... As a creature of the public parks I know if you dare to bet on anything even spitting they will kick you out of the public park for a long time and not allow you back in.... That was a clear threat by that guy because I told the people at the store to organize a union.... That's me that I don't work there people who work there are scared you can see it in your face
I've also been threatened a couple times when encouraging folks to organize. It isn't a rare thing to have happen unfortunately
Unionizing a job site is not easy.... I will share a little incident that happened to me add a local grocery store which I won't dare to say the name.... I walked in and I asked for an empanada at the bakery the lady serving me picked up two empanadas somewhere between the bag and the counter she left one when I got to the car I only saw one empanadas.... I know somebody told her to do that because they've been doing it to me for some time already.... So I saw the big wigs having a meeting by the bakery in the morning I walked in I told the lady ma'am if you're disappointed so what you get paid you need to organize a union here and not take it out on me the customer......
I get that it's frustrating when a worker is being rude to you, I think putting the idea in her Head is good but you could be more helpful than that. Over on the EWOC website we have free pamphlets, business cards, and such under our resources tab.
Next time if you could please hand her our contact information (in a way that isn't obvious to her coworkers) that would be fantastic and our org could help them out!!!

EWOC's website is soliciting applicants to work for them without pay. Shameful!
I'm an EWOC organizer and this comment is really not fair to us at all. So let me clarify for you what we do. Most of the volunteering we do Is from the comfort of our own homes, with whatever time we can spare from the other things that consume our time.
Volunteer organizers like myself, we are people who have already been involved with the Labor movement for at least 2 years in the case of intermediate organizers and 5 years for Advanced Organizers. Organizers at EWOC also don't make up the bulk of our organization. The technology teams, coordinating teams, and media teams are so vital to keeping things running around here.
Lastly, people volunteer at animal shelters, at unpaid internships, homeless shelters, addiction centers, church volunteers, for whatever political parties you support. Most of everything to do with any significant cause is volunteering. At EWOC we set our own schedule and capacity for the volunteering we do.

Professor Wolfe makes a good argument for universal healthcare. Universal healthcare is the conservative method. Why? The definition of conservative is to conserve, because universal healthcare is cheaper per capita than private healthcare while covering everyone the conclusion is; universal healthcare is the conservative way to implement healthcare!
The left needs to use the aforementioned argument.
My family just got a taste of the magic of socialized medicine. My in laws recently moved to equador to retire, with its cheap socialized medicine. They raved about it - until my father in law had a heart attack and stroke in the same week, ending up in a socialist hospital. They couldn’t afford to pay for all of the treatments, so the hospital refused to continue treatment, and here is the kicker - _they would not allow my father in law to leave the hospital until he paid for what little they did,_ which he could not, only having a social security income. They held him hostage laying in a bed with no treatment for days until our family was able to scrape together enough money to pay the bill. We then had to figure out how to get him and his wife out of equador to a hospital here in the states where he could get the treatment he needed. It was a minor miracle that he made here to the States.
