If your wondering why Wong played Abel and hovered over M.Bison twice even though he had been a established rufus player, it was because of a series of exibitions called the daigo kumite where Daigo faced off against a bunch of top level players the only two that beat him were Shiro's Abel and Inoue's Bison. It was thought that maybe those matchups were the gaps in his matchup knowledge. Secondly at the gamestop tournament before this evo Wong's Rufus got absolutely obliterated by daigo. Some fun Lore and i believe you can watch all thise matches on youtube to this day.
Probably THE greatest evo grand finals of all time in any game. Watching evo this weekend and stopped to watch this bc it came up in my feeds. Timeless.
agreed. things were vibing so hard when it released. It blew new life into the FGC and i still think it's the best spectator version of the game. Having the right mix the right speed, easy new to use mechanics and the Ultras oh lord the Ultras. Coupled with the unimaginable concept of Madcatz making actually arcade perfect sticks and the rise of streaming events. It was a special time indeed.
Man, I feel ya because everyone still kind of new to the game but man once they've found out what Sagat can do, It was over moving forward And it's crazy to think that Seth remained unnoticed for a little while until SSF4.
So true! No Advertisements everywhere, Jerseys, commercial breaks, Sponsorships, Twitter beef, etc. Just really good players and super fun times. And most importantly, sportsmanship.

Daigo has played yun, ryu, Ken, e ryu, akuma, guile. That’s just in tourneys; obviously he can probably play many more. Wong only really played “the roster” in vanilla. There’s countless characters he’s never used in a tourney if we count the rosters with e ryu on them.
So rough and raw. I remember being amazed at the way these guys play and still am but damn this one in particular makes me feel better about my skill level.
NGL always played street fighter. Justin Wong made me want to IMPROVE at street fighter. Daigo is good at what he does, but Wong isn't playing a main. Also, he plays a diverse set of fighting games. Respect
Kind of sad to remember how SFIV came out with 26 characters right out of the gate and SF6 gets away with just 18. It'll probably take years of paid DLC until I find my definitive character...
meanwhile the top 8 in vanilla SF4 tournaments was all Sagat and Ryu. SF6 has some of the best balance of a launch roster and they probably want to take their time releasing new characters to not ruin it. Meanwhile, to get even more characters after vanilla SF4 you had to buy a whole new game, Super SF4 made vanilla into a $60 drink coaster. At least Capcom figured out what DLC was in subsequent title updates.
@@BronzeAgePepper I definitely agree with you. All in all things are far better now. We also have to consider that development costs of characters now are much higher compared to 13 years ago.
Because sf4 that came out on consoles was already the second iteration. The very first one was arcade only for 8 months and only had 16 characters plus not playable Gouki. They added new characters to the console versions ( ex Sakura, Rose ) which only came to arcades with Arcade edition mind you! Super IV had no official release in the arcades
A little backstory; Japan got this game a good six month or more before the west got it. That's half a year more of practice. The first Evo we basically were playing catch up to them, it really showed in terms of option selects and set ups. Justin being Justin closed the gap, but if he'd started the same time as Daigo, this could have swung to Wong for the win. Still epic either way.

Great back and forth action. Why did they change the entire game play? SF6 is all about pressure/momentum. Pressure in SF6 wins, but SFIV it's all about skill and strategy.
