Those rear springs look extra heavy duty. Like there are 2 extra leaves.

Thanks for posting this! I'm about to do the same to my '71 Esprit. What length U-bolts did you need to use?

I don't remember the length. The U bolts are heavy duty 1/2" I got from Summit. You have to drill the spring perch for them to fit through the holes and then cut the u bolts to length after installing.

Jack up front on a steel vee edge in middle so back height not affected buy front, then can check left to right, do same other way around.

@@SPSteve i got a 79 ta 10th anniversary and sits way lower which i think std ws6 springs sagging heaps.

I put one inch blocks in the back of mine and had to trim the top of the location pin in the top of the block because the hole wasn't as deep and it wouldn't sit down all the way.

SP Steve I've got the hotchkis two inch lowering springs and don't think it really went down two inches that's why I added the blocks. I left out the urethane bushing on the top because it looked like it would chew it up, never thought about filling it like you did.

Just did this exactly. Used your video step-by-step. The liquid soap was a great suggestion. Instead of drawing the axle back down on the block with a ubolt, I put a 60 pound sand bag on top of the axle. But the 1/2 block lowered the stock mount by 1/2 inch. This made the shock a little too short. Now the car is level on the ground. But when the car is on frame rails on jack stands the axle hangs crooked by 1/2 inch. Same issues with you? Any problems with the shock or wheel bottoming-out?

I'm about to do this on my 81 turbo. Unfortunately with a P325 tire, I don't actually want to lower the back end...just add the poly perches for now. So this video was helpful, since I haven't done this since I had my 75 TA! Down the road, I may add the Global West Category 5 springs with the Del-a-lume bushings & gimbal bearings. Did your modification make a noticeable handling improvement?

Where did you get the lowering block to fit a Firebird? Part number? Do you put the jack stands underneath the frame or the axle?

Thanks. What holes did you have to drill out for the 1/2” U-Bolts? All 8? Or just the 4 on the bottom plate. Are those 7 or 8 inch long U-bolts? This is my next project. Thx!

I used a bit of dish soap on the urethane pad and it slipped right in.

I have lowering blocks on my back leaf springs but it bottoms out too much. Would cutting a little off the Pump Stops fix this?
    Cheers

What kind of epoxy did you use to fill the block? I tried using JD Weld, but it will take 30 tubes and $200 to do it. Thx!
