- We are missing our live performances together and can’t wait to get back on the stage to sing for you again! The last time we had our open rehearsal was with over 100 of our singers. We captured this moment and wanted to share an original song “Sounds of the Sidewalk”, written and performed by the Voices of Our City Choir and band.
The lyrics are so powerful with captivating imagery that inspires the listener to feel as if they were on our San Diego Sidewalks. This song includes a empowered message in the form of spoken word by our poet, Patricia Gaines! When asked about the meaning of her words she expressed, “this song is about the experience of living on the street and finding the hope and strength to continue on.”

We're still here, after 3 1/2 long years..some still on the sidewalk. Many housed, few at shelters still! Others in cars, all trying to get along..singing their hearts out! Please continue to pray/mediate for us, during a very hard virtual meeting mad/bad people dropped in on us, calling us lots BAD of names, and saying very harmful stuff after one of our choir founders had passed in auto accident. Many many of us are still deeply grieving because of the closeness we'd had!

As I was listening to you perform this on AGT I was thinking this sounds like it could have come off of Tower of Power's Back to Oakland album. If it was performed with a brass section OMG. I loved it.

I ❤️you guys!! EVERYBODY deserves affordable housing! And a loving caring network! Not just words or agencies with their hands tied! I’ve been there and almost died from illness, addicts always tryin to manipulate you, numerous stabbing attempts,robbery, sexual assault! Washing up in gas station bathrooms! But I made it out on my own! But death was always an option! The problem is this lifestyle is suitable for some. The gang mentality and addicts. They role by their own rules. I’m not judging, I’ve met many many great ppl, but it is the reality. And I’m not a part of that world, but I was thrown in it, just because of finances!! Then when you get victimized, there’s no help because they think because you’re homeless and maybe self medicating, your not a priority, I’ll just say. That you deserve it. And sometimes the cycle of poverty and fight for survival is too much. And sometimes, you get used to it. What you’re doing is wonderful!! Amazing! A VOICE literally and figuratively!! And you and your choir members deserve much more. May the creator bless you all with peace and comfort!! 💋❤️✌🏼🇨🇦 I wish I had you guys on my team. Something to look forward to everyday. What a difference that would’ve made!!
