    I’ve always called this cut/style a wedge cut. To me a pixie cut is much shorter and piecier around the face. The names of cuts might be different where one lives. With that said, as a fellow hair artist, I am very soothed watching/listening to your tutorials. You are Wonderfully skilled! Cheers from California x

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 роки тому

      Yes from a technical standpoint pixie cut is shorter you’re right in the title of this video. I call it A taxi because it’s easy for people to find on the UA-cam algorithm I know it’s not exactly technically correct from a technical standpoint it’s just a square graduation, square graduation it’s not really a haircut per se It’s just a technique. the wedges a different thing again Traditionally is using horizontal sections to build up the weight And creating that heavy triangle shape. I hope That clears up why I called it that 😁👍🏻

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Andrejs Yes my friend I would love to do diagrams in these videos but it just makes the video is too long I did it before where I’ve done diagrams but then I find the videos I like way over 25 minutes I know that’s okay for somebody really into a diagram but most people are not into them however over on my Patreon when we do live haircuts over there I’m going to be doing head diagram sheets as we go so if you are into that then you could maybe check out the Patreon lives It’s a linked in the description the $10 a month one is the all access Patreon this is a once a month cutting/colouring tutorial Where we go into a lot more detail. 👍🏻

    Hi James
    I’ve had a weird week of cutting hair, as I kind of feel like I “hit the wall” as it were... I’m sure I did not have a stroke (🤪) but I found myself all of a sudden not knowing what my next steps should be for certain haircuts.... how, why??? Suddenly felt like I was a complete beginner... I love that there have been so many excellent tutorials and hair education videos for hairdressers over the lockdown period, but it’s really hard combining techniques, I wouldn’t recommend it. Maybe for texturizing but certainly not for base shapes. Is there such thing as too much info... ??? Anyway, will sort my brain and get back on track.

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 роки тому +1

      Hi FaceUp I think it’s probably a combination of things being off for awhile watching lots and lots of different peoples techniques as you said can be confusing sometimes trying to combine several different techniques that you’ve seen all in one go cannot necessarily be the most straightforward thing. I always stick to my principles I trained at Sassoon we Worked off nine principle based basic haircuts, that we added our creative touches, disconnection and personalisation, so I would say whenever you’re watching somebody else’s technique to Bolt on there techniques on to your own personal style 😁👍🏻

    Hi James...looove the cut 💚. Would you mind to help me visualise why this is square graduation?🤔 Is it solely based on the vertical partings? Thank you😊

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 роки тому

      Hi Heather good to hear from you glad you enjoyed the haircut yes I can help you visualise it is called square graduation because each section is pulled square from the head shape and cut On a graduated line Hence the name square Graduation hope that clears it up for you Please let me know if you have any other questions are the best James

    Hi James, can you explain the difference between this square graduation cut to your Vidal Sassoon round graduation haircut?

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Katie said the main difference is that wrong graduation starts on the front and works to the back and square graduation works in the back and travels to the front that is over direction in the sections on round graduation at the front hairline the first three sections are over directed onto one another and then you tend to end up with a rounder more graduated shape in the back square graduation however is flatter and the graduation as it travels around the head because of the finger angle tends to have a flatter overall shape then around graduation hope that makes sense

    When cutting the crown area, do you use pivoting sections? Also the top are is disconnect too?

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  3 роки тому +1

      Yes in the crown area using pivoting sections 1st section is vertical straight down the head subsequent sections pivot round then take vertical sections and travel all the way through to the front hairline each section is connected there is no disconnection in the top in this particular hair cut
