  • Come along as I design a Kei Truck Camper that embodies a homely feel. I researched many different Japanese tiny house truck ideas and settled on a traditional pitched roof home style. A friend created a 3D version so I could visualise the camper to scale. I am excited to DIY build the frame next. Wish me luck as I fumble my way through welding lightweight aluminum. I would love to hear your ideas on materials I should use or any space saving floor plan concepts that you may have. Please leave your suggestions below.

    Looks like its going to be cute! I think that once the shell is together it might be an idea to make a modular (ish) setup so you can try it in different configurations to find what suits you best

      @smooshie1592 Thanks for your comment Smooshie! Great idea about the modular system. I think once the frame is up, the inside is going to look extremely small. I will try my best to create an organised workable space hopefully 🤞

    Mike Festiva has a channel, he’s got an older model Suzuki but he’s made quite a nice little camper. Mostly all wooden construction and successfully used it in the snowy weather of the Pacific Northwest in America.

    • @CosyCottageCamper
      @CosyCottageCamper  Місяць тому +1

      @jonmarshall1502 Wow thanks so much for your comment. I will definitely take a look at Mike's channel. I would love to use wood but in Australia we have hardwood which is heavy. Perhaps for accents like the windows and door I can use it to make it a feature. I'm also hoping it withstands our highways at 110kms which will be scary in such a tiny car.

      @@CosyCottageCamper I’ve got a 1999 Suzuki Carry, it’ll never do 110kms 😂 but it’s good fun on mild trails with its 4wd and street tyres. Good luck with your build.

    • @CosyCottageCamper
      @CosyCottageCamper  Місяць тому

      @jonmarshall1502 How has your 1999 Carry held up over the years? Did you need to replace certain parts and were they easy to get?

    • @jonmarshall1502
      @jonmarshall1502 Місяць тому

      @@CosyCottageCamper I’ve had it since roughly mid pandemic 😂 it’s been fine with just basic stuff needing repairs. Oil change etc but those things are easy. While specific parts aren’t readily available here in NZ I have had no trouble stocking up on parts like brake pads, tail light lenses (I got rear ended, but minimal damage to my Suzuki except for the taillight, destroyed the other car). I get my parts through a Japanese company called Megazip. Search engine is good, put your VIN number in and it finds your model and all the various parts for each system of the vehicle, description and diagrams. Yours is fairly new so I wouldn’t think you need too many parts yet.
      I’ve used mine many for picking up stuff for home projects, carrying my mountain bike to the park, I’ve done a little bit of off road exploring in it and it’s fun. Long journeys I avoid simply because they aren’t really meant for high speed travel. But if you aren’t in a rush then just go for it.
      In future , if you really enjoy it, maybe a van version would be a better option, it’s already a box on wheels and then you only have to fit it out inside, rather than building the actual cabin. Van version of the Carry is called the Every I think.

    Keep it in your mind that keep it as lightweight as possible. Fully loaded kei truck is really sluggish.

    • @CosyCottageCamper
      @CosyCottageCamper  Місяць тому

      @ektherising Thank you. Yes, I have thought about that, as the engine being 660cc is already struggling compared to having all that extra camper weight in the back. With every build material, I will try my best to keep it as light as possible.

    You could easily do a 6 inch overhang each side that would give you an extre foot. I wouldn't have a toilet in there.

      @CosyCottageCamper  Місяць тому

      @phil031066 Hi Phil, Thanks for your comment. I'm not entirely sure for the over-hang rules here in Australia. What's allowed and what's not compared to hanging over the sides of the tray. I did think about it, even for a little porch at the back where the door will be.
