- If you like Distitch Selvedge, please use it in your projects. However please always give full credit, and use the correct title: DISTITCH SELVEDGE BY ASSIA BRILL.
If you are a designer and are planning to use Distitch Selvedge in your work, I’m flattered! But PLEASE CONTACT ME BEFORE publishing your design. Thank you!
Distitch gives a beautiful, even and firm selvedge - use it as a decorative edge that doesn’t loosen with wear.
When working in Garter stitch, Brioche, or other vertically compressed stitch patterns, it’s better to use slip DS selvedge, in which the selvedge stitch is worked every second row. This is achieved by slipping the first stitch of every row, and working the last stitch as a Distitch. Remember, because each slipped Distitch is stretched over 4 rows, it gathers the vertical edge, so it needs to be worked looser than the body stitches.
Different ways of slipping the first stitch at the beginning of the row give open or closed chains of stitches on the edge. The closed chain consists of twisted stitches and is narrower and tighter. The open one is wider and much looser. Try both to decide which is best for your project.
Here are full instructions for the open chain DS selvedge (2). The closed chain DS selvedge (1) is shown in previous videos.
The book "Distitch: a new knitting concept" is now available from Amazon.

I’ve tried regular slip-stitch edges, but they were never this neat. The video is very clear and easy to follow. I frogged the first few rows of a scarf to start over using this technique. Thank you!

Caroline
Liebe Caroline!

Well darn, I tried to like this video and I accidentally hit dislike first. I changed it right away but didn’t want you to think anyone actually did react negatively. And oh my, I definitely do LOVE this! I’ve never seen anything like it and will be trying it out on my next project. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for “changing” your mind, have fun with Distitch!
amazing! thank you!
Thank you, I'm very glad that you like my Distitch selvedge! Hope it will be useful.
Я пробовала так вязать,но край стягивает полотно,увы😊
Как жаль, мне очень хочется помочь Вам!
Имеется несколько обязательных условий для получения аккураного Дистичного края:
1. Использовать только для сжатых по вертикали узоров: платочная, английская резинка и подобные;
Very nice!
Thank you!
🇧🇷 🌺💕 Obrigada.
Hi where do you increase one stitch .
Hi! There are NO increases, NO decreases here :).
Distitch is a new principle of knitting, when the loops of the one row are pulled through the loops of the TWO rows below it.
Please read about the idea and see the structure here: assiabrill.com/knitting-2/distitch-structure/
On my website you'll find a lot of information about Distitch, which could help to understand the DS principle.
Enjoy! assiabrill.com/
Muy lindo!!!
¡Gracias! Thank you!
Loving the look of the edge. How would you work it for stockinette st?
Thank you! Distitch selvedges are working for many stitch patterns including stockinette - have a look at this video: ua-cam.com/video/q1ok5t01IW0/v-deo.html
How to work them described and shown in the book" Distitch: a new knitting concept". Hope you'll enjoy it!
Hi there. I love this edge. I've been trying to recreate it but really struggling. Does it make a difference what yarn you're using? thanks!
Dear Jessica, sorry to hear about your struggle. Please tell me, at what step you have a problem.
You can use any yarn, but for the training purpose I would recommend non-splitty yarn.
Hi! I'm very interested to buy your book. Are there more videos available when we buy the book? Also, what are the differences between video 1.2, 2.2, and 3.2, etc.? Not clear to me! What do open and closed means? Thanks!
Dear Josée!
Glad you are interested in the Distitch book!
Yes, there are plenty of videos in the book, for all new techniques. You'll need a mobile phone or tablet with the ability to read QR codes.
Both video 1.1 and 1.2 are for technique no 1. The difference is in the length:
1.1 is very short, less than 1 minute and shows only the established repeat.
1.2 is the full version with set-up and repeat.
The same principle allies for all other video numbering: 2.1 and 2.2; 3.1 and 3.2: 4.1 and 4.2.etc...
Hope this helps.
