Yea that's heartbreaking.... especially if it's a person's first foray into Gibson's. There is a special type of hell waiting for scammers, especially guitar scammers.
Potentially that is a decent guitar. Just overpriced.

There's a local shop to me which is full of Chibsons. "Brand new" SGs for £425...Les Pauls...lots of dodgy priced "Fenders" as well. No idea how the local Trading Standards office haven't shut them down.
I agree, I tell everyone if you want a cheap guitar from overseas. Then buy a epiphone. At least you will have a quality instrument. And you're not being scammed.

haven’t played a real Gibson les Paul for the most part. Some saying Gibson are shit
then wanting a fake one with the Gibson badge are the most insane of the buyers.

Just a curious observation on that 355 Cobra burst. You said most of them come with Chrome hardware and that one has all gold hardware but the studs that are in the body are Chrome. I wonder if they switched all the hardware on it and still claiming it's new.

Another giveaway on these chibsons (and epiphones actually) is that they never scrape the top edge of the binding on the body, they only mask the sides. So the finish goes right up to the edge and if you’re looking at the guitar straight on, you don’t really see the outline of the binding like on a Gibson.

I've noticed the majority of Chibsons use that 2006 serial format, LOADS start 01716xxx, and I've seen 01714xxx, too. I wonder if that's an identifier for the factory that they always use 0171?. I'd be terrified if I ever found an actual Gibson made on that day!
Maybe they have a real Gibson they base their designs on and they’re faking the serial numbers based upon the real one
@@honkytonkinson9787 No, that's not it - you'll see this USA serial format on supposed Custom Shop models too. I suspect they just whack 0171xxxx on everything they produce.

Check the cavity routes...if they're clean and smooth then it's a Chibson. Gibson has terrible QC and rarely sharpens their bits.
The Chibson’s also actually play decently out of the box.

China Guitar Skeptic "Mike", who built his channel a decade ago reviewing/debunking Chibsons he bought with his own money, died a year ago so this is a fitting commemoration. There's an anniversary memorial on CGS2 channel for folks that watched him.
After I saw Guitar Max channel testing lead levels in Chibsons I wonder if Mike didn't died of lead poisoning, and I am not joking here it is a serious subject. People buy a lot of Chibsons and if they knew that they would probably stop.
@@sebjulien3 There's proven link in research between lead and ALS so it's a good question if it contributed.
I have a twin of that Explorer Custom Shop Edition. I bought it new back in 1994. It is a satin finish and glosses up in the playing areas. I couldn't stomach the white pick guard so I have a black one on mine, although I still have the original in the case.
The eds1275 is absolutely beautiful, but i cant live with them because of the lack of 22 frets, a shame i have to get clones to get that
I have that exact 94’ explorer! It’s satin, but probably buffed into gloss, it’s hard to put down, Dow they will all be glossy by now!!
Oh man that SG had an evil demon face in the quilt. That would make a nice metal guitar. It’s what SGs were conjured up for lol it just needs a set of EMG TWs (they have the red logo print to boot)

It is very likely that Chibson has a 1-Piece body, I've seen more than a handful over the years.
IMO, with the Gibson hardware and electronics its probably nicer than most Epiphones, deceiving and asking more than $600 is criminal.
That futura is on sale in Florida. I was just looking at it earlier on facebook marketplace cuz it’s right near me… I was very tempted to buy it too especially since he’s only asking 900 there and I could pick it up!!! That guy I think it’s white shag guitars always has some nice stuff and it’s always reasonably priced.
Am I wrong or is the shape of the body completely wrong? Like the middle part curves in way more than any Gibson I've seen

That is one amazing Chibson! Shame that its definitely set up for a scam! Is likely a decent guitar! I saw a Dave Grohl Chibson that is so convincing that, unless you really look, you could not tell the difference. The only really noticable difference is that the F holes are slightly longer than the Gibson! Other than that its a real ringer for the Gibson!
Taking a look at it, believing but that was some antique green/white thing and then looking at the neck itself but is that some kind of metallic.. I know it was that song node woodgrain exposure thing it was. grain hole thing. n then the neck it pianoed again
Yeah the fretwork on that Chibson looks great, if you miss the too-short 3rd that doesn't even cover the bass side of the binding lolol
Also, Gibsons headstocks is three piece. Always look for wings!

That being said the frets where nicely done semi hemispherical style, just that some frets were too short 😂 so I'm guessing they went too crazy on the rounded fret ends 😂
No fret nibs. Of course it's possible an authentic Gibson LP could get refretted, removing the nibs, but unless they are stating that's the case, I assume no nibs = no Gibson.

On the Chibsons look at the Phillips screws. They always look subpar. Almost like they were made pre-stripped before being plated.

The fastest way to find out if it’s a Chibson is look at the truss rod. Chibson won’t have the nut Gibson style, they all have the Allen style rod.
This was on Marketplace! I don’t live that far from where it’s located and I saw it while I was looking around!! I swear, when I saw it I honestly thought it looked off. Especially the serial # look.
I’m more in to Fenders and I can spot those fakes pretty quickly but I gotta give Trogly the credit for teaching me what real Gibsons look like!
No1 Chibson giveaway is the wings on the headstock! I’ve seen chibsons with fret nibs but they never use wings on the headstocks!

This was almost convincing. I feel bad for the seller but then again, i don't if he decides to continue to sell it for $$$ knowing it's a fake now.
Things to look for:
-serial number
-3 piece headstock (wings)
-take off the nut cover, shouldn't be an allen wrench. (should msg seller to post pictures abt that)
-bridge pins vs flathead

The logo on the Chibson alone looked off. After all these years, they never align the G correctly.

You should make a video on fake epiphones they are a little harder to spot
Imagine someone buying that for their first Gibson and finding out its fake. That would leave a bad taste in your mouth with Gibson guitars. It's already hard enough to fork over a small fortune to have one. Im still trying to buy an esp e-ii eclipse but my bank apparently won't allow me to spend my own money so i guess im going to have to go talk to them.
The fake stuff is such a bummer.

On chibsons, the head inlay is off 9/10 times
I couldn't buy a guitar from anyone dumb enough to sit their so called valuable guitar down on tarmac and lean it up against a brick wall.
It always makes me chuckle when Trogly pronounces the decades correctly. Most people say Nineteen Ninedees, but Trogly says Nineteen Nintease. Just an observation, not a slight.😂 I ❤ this show!
chibsons are trying much harder these days they probably didn't switch anything on this guitar. you can get chibsons with both the correct bridge and even fret nibs now

Ok I'm sitting here goin, is that fake Gibson actually a lesser guitar then a Gibson? Cause from here it don't look like it, bet it sounds and plays just as good..I don't condone it but I'm really wondering is it a bad guitar?

I’m gonna say it again. Every time a chibson goes through your hands you guys need to scratch “copy“ or “replica“ something to denote it into the finish so that somebody has to go through even more work if they’re gonna try to dupe someone. Every chips in the comes in my hands leaves my possession ( if it ever does leave my possession) has copy or something like that scratched into the finish behind the headstock. And I did that, and I do that, because one left my possession and somebody did exactly this. They put Gibson part in it, and somebody ended up buying it for like 2-3000 bucks.
Mutilate your own. No point ruining a finish and reducing value.

Owning a Chibson is just false pretense.. Fake guitars for fake people who are prepared to masquerade as a Gibson player.
You can see immediately that the angle on that tailpiece isn't right. I'm no expert but I'd worked it out within a minute. I'm shocked if you fell for it. Edit 2. Still within a minute, that headstock is all sorts of wrong. I'm guessing you KNEW this was a fake and bought it for content. Edit 3. The fretwork looks "NICE!? They're not even all the same length! Some aren't even close to the fingerboard edges and have no edging. No way you ever thought this was original!

It should be illegal to sell this in America. I hate chibson. I'm not saying I'm a gibson only player. I just really hate fakes. This could of really screwed a young player. If you want a Chinese gibson, buy an epiphone. They are good guitars. And your not being scammed.

well ill say this, with Gibson refinishing so many guitar in the mod / refinish shop, nothing is sacred anymore or standard so it leaves the world open for chibson slidng in weird guitars and passing them of as originals. its a sad fact!!!
