HOJO is short for Howard Johnson. It was a Hotel/Motel chain in the 70's. And that is a pretty good match for that color!!

I was wondering if anyone else caught that. When I used to go New Orleans in my younger days sometimes we'd stop in at the HOJO restaurant. Which was somewhere between the Woolsworth or Walgreens restaurant and just short of being a restaurant with a dress code.
I visited the new Gibson shop in London on Sunday - if you like Les Pauls you’re in for a treat. If you don’t, you might be ever so slightly disappointed. They’re going to have to sell a whole bunch of guitars to keep the place open, too, as overheads on the place are going to be steep!
There was a huge blowout sale on Friday on the European Demo Shop with discounts up to 35%. I snatched up a '61 Reissue ES-335 for under 3000€.
@10:14 I’m almost certain this Hummingbird is from Wildwoods drop. They just dropped these a few weeks ago, 1 of 5 special wildwood hummingbird edition.

IMO, the natural back and sides is the only way to go with a solid color top.
The 68 Les Paul Custom reissue at the very end (art- burst was it called?) Was beautiful! Also liked the Pool Shark Sparkle Les Paul and 70s Flying V natural as well as that lovely Hummingbird acoustic!

If ANY UA-cam Guitar Personality deserves a Gibson Signature it's Trogly, I was NEVER sold on them until watching his videos. He's stirred up so much talk about Gibson and got them so many sales, he should be on commission at this point. Haha. I think a Trogly Sig would be cool! Especially if they did it exactly how he'd want it built

The prices of those guitars are insane
Don't expect it to change. Like gas, once people paid those high prices.... there is NO reason for them to drop. People are correct, though. Gibson is a name. Known for history, not great guitars any longer. You can find equal or even better instruments for a fraction of the price.
If the gold and black double cut (Rick beato) didn’t have the wrap around bridge I would jump on it. I need to get over my fear of wrap around. Great video Trog thanks.

I have never had the pleasure of owning a vintage Gibson from the 60’s-90’s. But I have had both 2008 and 2012 SG’s. I prefer the smaller SG Gibson’s because they are lighter and easier to maneuver. Also, I’m a bid Angus fan. I know I will receive backlash for my post, but I prefer my PRS SE Customs, and ESP LTD’s, over Gibson Les Paul Standards. I prefer hard rock and heavy metal, so that is probably why. I also have an inexpensive Ibanez RG 350, that sounds great, and is so comfortable to play. I’m sure those vintage Gibson’s are probably amazing, but I (meaning my wife 😂) set my limit for a guitar at $2,500.

I like the eeptile perimeter top but not crazy for it's back. They shouldve mstched the top or gone with a natural stained back. That Royal Iced Tea has a uniquely interesting top .

Heya Trog, hope alls well. Just saw a spectacular Les Paul in a Billy Idol video from 2/29/24 eyes without a face after the Godin acoustic intro Steve switches to this Gibson. Think you'll like it.

I didn’t realize they stopped making archtop l5 guitars. I want one now. Like really want a few. I think those where the most beautiful guitars. I mean the whole line not just l5’s.
That natural 58 ES-335 looks amazing, BUT NO NECK BINDING??? I know it was a thing that year but even still, that's a weird choice that's gonna put a lot of people off it.
The yellow green looks a bit like a baseball field to me! Could match your sports themed ones.

While it can be cool if they do the back as well, it doesn’t bother me if they don’t do the back, who really looks at it.

There was a reason for the half burst half gold top. It was to pay homage to the burst conversions. And it has nothing to do with the back of the guitar.

Hi Austin, thanks for the follow-up. I'm Ross, from Montana. I've been watching and a big fan for several years, and I sure appreciate your show.. I've been playing for 46 years and have always been a Les Paul guy (or SG) mostly anything with a stop tailpiece. However have had my share of locking tremolos. I love when you are playing a review and either the playability or tone, or both, hit your switch, and you just start cutting loose. You have skills and a repertoire. Lol you also have an eye for telling details that only came out certain years etc. lots and lots of knowledge that you pass on. Absolutely love/envy your collection, and the trades you acquire on your way to the goal. Very inspiring. Great Job buddy .

I do wish you'd use your elevated platform to GO OFF on Gibson for having decided to cater to the well heeled professional-non-musician, doctors, lawyers, and collectors, rather than stay focused on making great instruments for PLAYERS. It has been said that Gibson now builds for collectors, not players, and that seems to be true based on the fact that they're only making low end models available at player friendly prices these days. All the guitars we WANT start at 5 or 6 thousand dollars.
There is an argument that you can still play the same notes on a 1500.00 guiyar as a 5k guitar...but i could be wrong..an aside Why can't they cater to both. You probably don't even own a Gibson.

It’s 2023, 3% inflation per yr. $100K salary isn’t this big special thing like it was when our parents celebrated hitting it.
Hell my wife just hired 2x 24 yr olds recent grads, non-impressive school/degree at $110K per yr and $15k sign on bonus…just construction project managers.
She’s nothing special and bought me a Hummingbird 6 months ago. I’m definitely nothing special and bought a couple special edition Gibson LP’s in 23’.
I personally think it’s great Gibson has expensive $20-50k stuff, gives us all something to work for!
Not saying I broke the bank or anything but I have 2 Gibsons both in the $3500-4000 range and also a $1600 Fender telecaster pro ii that I’m sorry to say is far superior to the Gibsons in almost every way a player wants a guitar to be. I can’t even remember the last time I had to tune the thing
