  • Accurately sew elastic up to 12mm width and serge edges at the same time - this is all possible with the BERNINA elasticator foot for overlocker machines. In this video you will find out what you have to look out for when using this foot and which settings and preparations you need to make before use.
The video shows you how to prepare your BERNINA serger / overlocker to use the elasticator foot, which settings are required and how to replace the standard presser foot with the elasticator foot. A pressure screw on the presser foot allows you to regulate the stretch of the elastic during sewing. The video uses practical examples to familiarise you with the handling of the presser foot and provides useful tips that make it easier to use and ensure a flawless result. So you can achieve perfect elasticated seams and hems from the start with the BERNINA elastic foot and guarantee that your sewing will be comfortable to wear and look professional.
The BERNINA range of accessories includes many other presser feet for special applications, allowing you to make the most of your BERNINA’s creative potential. Just visit us at www.bernina.com to find out more!

Can you please provide a detailed explanation into why you clip the seam the length of the foot before you commence ? it also appears on your demonstration of sewing in a circle you have not secured the elastic before commencing, is that correct?

Hi Melinda, thanks for asking. Starting and ending in a circle works the same with or without elasticator foot. Precut your seam allowance the length of the presser foot, that will allow you to place the circle/leg opening straight under the presser foot. I personally prefer that method to avoid sewing into the circle and out of it at an angle, because that mostly results in an uneven ending. Regarding securing stitches, as you see it in the video, the last stitches are sewn over the first stitches, securing the beginning and end of the seam. After sewing in the elastic, most often it is topstitched - either with a coverstitch or the sewing machine, so more securing done. For more information, please also refer to our reply on your second question regarding foot C14. Happy stitching!
