Inherited a beautiful Bernina and an abundance of accessories from my wonderful MIL as she has passed. Feeling very intimidated, I found this so helpful. Thank you so much.
    Your instructions were very clear.

Kathy, these tips are WONDERFUL! Your explanations are very clear, the camera work is great, and you demonstrate slowly and clearly. Thanks you so much for doing these, and for choosing some feet that we might not use all the time. 👏😄

On a piece of the same fabric you plan to use, play with the setting to achieve the look you want. Then take the same fabric and cut about a 12 inch strip and see what your settings gather that piece down to. Then its math. Measure the area where the ruffle will be applied and divide that amount by the measurement of the ruffled piece you created. Hope that helps. Thank you sweet lady.

I have used the Brother version for nearly 40 years (since my daughter was born) without any trouble. It's also great for attaching lace if it isn't too delicate. I have also done a rolled serger hem on the side of the ruffle that shows so you don't have to double the fabric, in either matching or contrast thread. This can look stunning.

Thank you! If other people run into this problem ie. not being able to insert the second layer of fabric, you just need to loosen the screw a bit or push the glider piece forward to slip the fabric in, then back gain before you sew. Also, the fabric that you don’t want to gather can star gathering unless you hold it carefully, it helps if you hold each piece separately.

Does the Bernina #86 Ruffler need to be oiled at any time? Another sewist suggested I oil the unit, but did not tell me where I would apply oil. Thank you for this wonderful video. You are easy to understand. 🙂

Loved this! I’ve been eyeing this foot for a long time and it’s hard to get my hands on one along with a straight stitch plate for my B570qee.

I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks so much for watching. The Bernina dealer in your area should be able to help you with the presser foot and stitch plate.

@@ginasberninasewingcenter2375 unfortunately it’s been really hard to get my hands on one. I’ve tried since September of last year to purchase the ruffler foot.
