@@seanur2414 It all depends on how strong of a bite and how difficult the terrain. If you are catching a lot of fish, outing wades are longer. In general, I would say 1 mile- 2hrs, 2 miles- 4 hours, etc. When wading for trout with spinning gear, fish the pool, run or riff by paying attention to casts. If you are not connecting with fish after covering the area, move upstream and keep plugging away. Happy fishing!
@@WisconsinTroutFishing thanks Ron. I don’t have it even close to dialed in yet but getting more comfortable. Spending time on the streams closest to my metro home. Thank you for all the tips on gear as well. ⚙️ My next hurdle is learning to retrieve my spinning reel faster. I lose too many opportunities because my spinner hits the bottom once the current grabs it and starts pushing it back to me. I foul up a lot of casts like this. It seems after 2 feet I’ve hooked a weed or a leaf and then my spinner doesn’t spin the next 38 feet :/ I upsized to a 2500 reel and that is helping. Still not there yet. Probably switch to 10 lb powerpro braid (currently have 6 mono) based on your gear video…hope that helps. Anyway, I’m a lake fisherman who has long benefited from letting my slow hands take their time while lures are sinking… That is not working on the skinny trout water.
@@seanur2414 On snagging...first use a lighter spinner, second, try quartering to the bank or run more vs. a direct straight retrieve back to you, and third, remember you see the best casts in the videos, not the worst. Lol. Happy fishing!

Hey Ron, I broke my main trout spinning rod and I am getting it replaced. I was using a 5'6 ultra light/fast action. I'm thinking about moving up to a light action. I guess this is the longest way possible to ask what size, length and action you would recomend?
And thank you for answering my questions like all the time! I'm up in eau claire, I fish mainly walleyes up here but with your help I did AWESOME this year with trout. Thank you again.
@@briansemingson There are a lot of good rod options. You can't go wrong with 5'6" ugly Stick GX2. Very durable and economical. Most manufactures make a 5'6" light, fast action rod. I used a 5' ultralight for years. You will do better with the light or even a medium power rod. Happy fishing!
Where are the big brown trout? Have you kept track of how many big brown trout follow your spinner lure? Time to try some big Rapalas lures? If I was a bait fisherman, I would help to alleviate the pain of a DNR hatchery gill lice infected brook trout by cutting the brook trout in half and use the infected brook trout for bait to catch the big brown trout. (The DNR hatchery gill lice infected brook trout will die later this fall after exerting to much energy during spawning.) I wonder where all the native fish (white suckers, chubs, minnow like fish, etc.) have gone that bait fisherman used?
@@davidstakston1950 You maybe right, but I think the cumulative drought 2019-2023 had a major impact on the growth and health of trout throughout the driftless. Even this year, the summer rains saved stream levels for a while, but no snow pack is a problem. Happy fishing!
What?? No Tiger! Starting to expect them from you Ron - LOL. Another nice outing. I haven't been able to go out for a while. CONGRATS on the new Job!

Closer to fall the prettier they get. Very bright colors gotta love it. Thank you for videos. Wish we had as many cold water streams up here.

Oh Man ! At 3:54 you missed out on getting those great mushrooms. I bet they were fresh since the water looks like it rained in the past 24 hrs.
@@grantdubridge7995 Darn, that is public there too. Keep in mind, when on private property, that could be considered theft. Happy fishing!
Bravo

Nice outing, Ron. How long would you say it takes you to fish 1 river mile? Trying to get a sense for whether I linger in spots too long.

Ron - what is your personal best (small stream/driftless area) trout? I’m still trying to break 20 inches.
