- Portrait of Boston hood Eddie Coyle, gun provider for the robbers and informer for the feds.
Music Notes: This montage features four tracks ("Whalen Robbery", "Mr. Connection", "The Stakeout", "Theme from The Friends of Eddie Coyle") from Dave Grusin's "The Friends of Eddie Coyle" (1973).
Man, this is such a chilled-out movie. Slow-paced, dialog-centric, dreamily-shot '70s noir with a laid-back, groovy soundtrack. Cool, believable characters, masterful, often understated dialog, cozy '70s scenery. A great movie to fall asleep to on the couch on a lazy Sunday afternoon, or a fantastic, engaging crime story to get locked into 'til the end. Overall, an expertly-executed glimpse into grimy '70s America, where times were hard and getting harder, and people were getting by however they could. Can't recommend this flick enough.
One classy movie
I like your critique. Word for word the best I've read.
This is like an instructional video for how to be in the '70s.
A large part of being in the 70s is going around doing super inappropriate things, then going, "Heeeey, man. Mellow out, its cool, alrite? No reason to press the panic button, man" when people reacted to what you did negatively.
Up until 1982 it worked like a charm. After that you had to substitute "Dude", for the word, "man" and everything vibed along just fine. Starting around 1993-98 everybody started getting real tight ass and sanctimonious and PC so none of the old tricks worked anymore.
I really miss getting to be a sleezy douche bag
That scene with Jordan sneaking up on the robbers and saying "April Fool motherfuckers" is the best scene in the film. Always gets me.
0:44 the South Shore Bank is in downtown Dedham, MA is still standing as a Citizens Bank now. I live right down the street and recognized it immediately

Excellent mood piece. Well done tribute to lost gem. You should do the same for "Bobby Deerfield". Another great Grusin soundtrack.
Rooco was a real Winter Hill gangster back in the early 60's!
The 70s was the decade for multistory carpark scenes in films.
