Heard the word of Dusty Hill passing today and I cried hard! These guys influenced my life in many ways...that's all I have to say right now! RIP my friend!
This is the best version of this song. You need all these guitars on stage to get that layered sound. All ZZ Top performances are great but you can’t do this with two guitars only.
Heard of Dusty passing and my mind flashed back to this performance. The whole show. Premiere episode of the "Crossroads" series on CMT, and both duos fit together like they were hand in glove. "Gimme All Your Lovin'" was the perfect song to end the show on. Thank goodness I found it here for the memories.
I see guys pounding the hell out of their drums like they're gonna have a stroke, and Frank's so laid-back he could be sleeping. But he's on form and doesn't miss a beat. That's old-school, right there.
Watch how Ronnie is Johnny Cash-level cool in this performance. That "Aw, shucks" wave at 0:19. Kix is groovin', and that's great, but Ronnie's just on the sideline smiling. He knows this is ZZ Top's song, and he's just supporting them. Man, this is as great a show as when I first saw it.
Not understanding why ZZ Top is backed by country musicians, but they've toured here in Nashville before. ZZ Top is not country but Texas blues rock. They've been playing since 1970. Around 1968-69 Gibbons was playing in a band called "Moving Sidewalks". Gibbons toured with his guitar mentor James Marshall (Jimi) Hendrix. Gibbons and Hendix's murials are on the side of the Musician's Hall Of Fame building in Nashville.
It was a show called CMT Crossroads. Country acts would perform with a group from another genre that inspired them. Brooks and Dunn is definitely inspired by ZZ Top.

Those extra guitars allowed Billy to play that intro like the studio version. To my knowledge, the only time he's ever done that.
100% agree, the sound is fuller and the production on the studio record is fantastic
RIP Dusty. You was a great inspiration
Had to come and do some ZZ Top watching for Dusty.......vaya con Dios......
