Train Simulator 2015 - Route Learning: London Paddington to Slough (Class 166)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 вер 2024
- In this next route learning video we take a journey along the original Great Western Main Line on a stopping service between Paddington and Slough in a Network South East Class 166. On the way we call at Ealing Broadway, West Ealing, Hanwell, Southall, Hayes & Harlington, West Drayton, Iver, Langley and Slough.
This is the first video recorded with my new headset and I'd love to know what you think of the audio quality on the commentary.
Apologies for the slightly misjudged braking point at Hanwell!

Another brilliant video, Peter, and one on my home patch of the last 33 years at last. You asked for feedback on a number of points.
I thought that the video on your previous videos was fine, but this was a big improvement: clearer and more natural.
There are two London Underground lines that end at Ealing Broadway: the Central Line appears soon after the big siding area on the right at Acton ends and is adjacent to the Paddington line; just before EB station, the District line joins further on the right.
The branch line of to the right after West Ealing does go to Greenford.
165 and 166 DMU's are used interchangeably on this line, sometimes one of each on a 5 or 6 car train.
You have said in previous videos that you prefer fast running. The stations between Slough and Reading are much further apart and the DMU's really put their foot down after Maidenhead.
Many thanks, Roger Crick
Don't know why but your voice and the sound of the train helps me fall asleep.
Haha, thanks. You're certainly not the first to say that, and I'm sure you won't be the last :p
Great video and the new mic sounds great with a far better sound quality.
Also good to see my local line, I know this route very well both in game and in real life. The branch at West Ealing is the one to Greenford, it's usually two car 165s that are used along there. First Great Western often use a combination of both on the mainline.
Where the overhead wires end after Hayes & Harlington is where the junction to Heathrow should branch off to the left, for some reason it wasn't modelled.
The platform you pull into at the end at Slough is no longer in use for passenger trains :-D
Would love to see you do a full route video from Oxford to Paddington in a HST, or even an NSE class 50 is possible
William Mankelow Awesome, glad you like the new mic quality :)
I've stood on all of the stations up as far as West Drayton with the exception of Acton Main Line and Hanwell. I really enjoy watching trains on this route! :)
Indeed, I remember a few years ago being confused as to why Airport Junction wasn't included. I have no idea why they didn't model it.
I guess that platform at Slough may have been used in NSE days? I am considering making a video of the full run on this route soon :)
PTGRail that platform is no longer used as there was an accident that happened in the 90s with 165102. Damaged the station canopy and there aren't any trains terminating at slough to free up paths for other services
Hi Pete, your voice audio is much clearer now. I didn't have a problem with your audio before however, in fact on some of your videos it sounded like you were the driver speaking over the train mic, That made it different to others and gave it a certain charm,
John Warren I hadn't thought of it like that! Lol :) At times though I was slightly annoyed at the way the sound quality was so I'm glad to be able to offer more consistent quality for the future :)
Great video and set at a time when I was regularly travelling Burnham-Reading-Oxford; during a period from the last of the loco-hauled & 1st generation dmus into the arrival of the 165/166s. This is first of your videos I have seen and balance/quality of your commentary over the game sound is good for me - very clear. Will look forward to enjoying more from your channel. Thanks for taking time & effort to edit and post these films.
055deltic Thank you very much for your comment. I really appreciate getting feedback from people who enjoy these videos. I can just remember the period you are talking about, I was a young child at the time. I miss those days on the railway, I think we probably had the best variety of locos and units back then. This was the first video recorded using a new mic, and the audio quality on the commentary of some videos wasn't as good as others. I hope you enjoy more videos on this channel :)
Routes I want:
WCML South London to Birmingham
Ashford Extension of HS1 on LtoF add on
South Western Main Line
Yes, you are correct. The line just after West Ealing station is for Greenford.
Another great tutorial.
If I could add another request please for you to do a tutorial on a Class 43 Valenta FGW on a London Paddington to Oxford or Didcot Parkway on this iconic route and HST set.
Many thanks.
+HM Kahn Thanks. I will consider it, though I was thinking of covering an Oxford to Paddington journey in a Class 50 :)
The 165/0s (2 car) are better for these services (while coupled make 4 cars which are perfect for Slough stoppers) as they have higher acceleration, but lower top speed (not a big matter on stopping runs)
Well done I love the video that you make thanks for making these videos
Matthew Geary Thanks for your comment! I'm glad you enjoy these videos :)
I love them you do amazing job and you have help me to drive my train with no hud thanks again
Matthew Geary Matt you know you like me um can you give me the money thing for farming sim 15
I enjoyed the video thank you
david baker Thanks for your comment :)
Another great video. Not at all my favourite class of DMU to drive though- I've seen faster moving barnacles. And the brakes are lousy too. Out of interest, without the HUD, how well do you stick to the timetable? The Oxford Bound career scenario is especially difficult to keep to the timings, given that train's shortcomings.
Yes i have this route on rail simulator
ksododpspwl from junction
Great video I have Rail Simulator which goes from Slough to Paddington and back to Slough.
+Reece Chesney Thanks. Indeed this is the route from the original Rail Simulator :)
This is the DMU I hate the most out of the ones I've used in the game. I think the model in general is okay but the cab is terrible and the physics just aren't there! Luckily this doesn't take away from the video, great job as usual! :)
neonballroom93 Haha I agree with you! I rarely drive this train :p But Thank you :)
well done peter
It is the Greenford branch and it is 166 and i65
the class 165 goes on the greenford branch ive seen it many times there
+Alfie Perriman Yes they do and before the introduction of the 165s in 1992 class 121 bubble cars were used. It was known as the greenford loop service.
cool i never new the 121 bubble car ran there
ooh this route brings me back.
talking of the london underground would you like a london underground route in the game and if so what line would it be?
Kirkinstein I would love to see the London Underground in Train Simulator, possibly the Northern Line as there's more than one route to take :)
PTGRail the northern line would be very nice in the game. i suppose the picadilly line would be the same aswell with the main line and the heathrow branch
Cool
PTGRail Will you be doing Slough - Reading / Oxford? :P
Thanks for doing this route, very interesting to watch. I've failed so many scenarios with these trains as the braking and acceleration on them are so bad and unpredictable, the worst trains in Train Sim! And not compatible with RailDriver either. :/
Wagnerian1979 Haha I agree, I don't generally enjoy driving these units lol :p
Audio is loud and clear!
***** Thanks! I think this new mic works well :)
What is the keyboard control for moving back in the cab, can't find anyway of doing it thanks? Audio quality was very nice.
You need to change the FOV. I've got a couple of tutorial videos on this channel which explain how to do it :)
Thanks very much I will look for them.
Thanks for your video. Not been using Train Simulator very long but attempting to learn without using the HUD as much as possible. From what you said you are using the keyboard and not a controller is that correct? I agree I have just done the Paddington to Oxford and found you are correct about the keyboard control is not that precise. Thinking of buying a train controller which although expensive it would be worth it as I am quite liking driving trains, childhood thing as you know.
I am indeed using the keyboard. It works fine for the vast majority of trains. The problem with the train in this video is that the keys are oversensitive, so it's difficult to be precise. But with many other trains I find it works well. :)
PTGRail
Yes takes some getting use too, still keep getting caught with over speed due to looking right and left at the great scenery.
I have now got WCML North and Trent Valley, problem is they seem so detailed that I find my system really stuttering every couple of minutes so its a struggle at present, need a better CPU my i7-950 is not cutting it. Thanks for your Route Learning Videos and for your thougjhts.
Clive
It is Greenford.
Sir Peepsalot I thought so :)
Can go from Carlisle to Whitehaven
Hi ptgrail please could you do a video on the great western mainline again but go from oxford to reading using a fgw hst?
Samthesnowgolem I will see what I can do in the future :)
dude i have a problem downloading ts 2016 with my cd its saying not enough disk space what do i do?
COC stuff - Clear up some space or get another, bigger drive.
Nicholas Hughes thanks man
thats probably what i need to do with roblox my graphics card is old
I think the older routes are better. They were made before dovetail games stopped giving a shit, and just rushed them
Yeah, I like the old ECML and the GWML. The scenery is very pretty, and it looks like someone spent a great amount of time to make them.
6:42 Let me guess, Radio 1 Big weekend in Norwich
schb2003 I mean 6:40
schb2003 Haha nope :p
is this a pay ware addon or does it come with the game itself
+tobysummers.exe It depends when you bought the game. If you bought it before TS 2014 then it comes with the game. If you bought it after TS 2014 then it's a separate payware addon.
+PTGRail So if I bought TS2013 then would the addon come with the game?
tobysummers.exe Yes, it would :)
+PTGRail Also keep up the good work on the videos :)
+PTGRail Sadly I cannot find this addon on steam or anywhere else. Where did you get the add on from?
Don't Chiltern use these from Marylebone too?
Cactus732 I think they do :)
They do. However Chiltern use the class 165/0 units where as FGW use the 165/1 and 166/2 units.
Could u do like a marlybone to Aylesbury via high Wycombe
I would love to, but unfortunately that route doesn't yet exist in the game.
it is Jonathan stampy
yeah can u
thank u neymar and messi
nah it doesn't go that far back, the first train simulator from Thingy was from 2009.
also did you get a new microphone? cus your voice sounds difference.
Frowny13 I just looked it up, Kuju Rail Simulator was released in 2007 so that's how far this route goes back :)
Frowny13 And yes I did, I mentioned that in this video :)
PTGRail Apparently train simulator is going to release class 442 on the london brighton line Gatwick express
Sam Rogers Indeed, though I hear it's not that great so I may hold off on it until AP release a sound pack for it :)
Why do you always drive without the HUD.
No Neymar Messi It's not the Greenford branch.
I made a mistake it is the Greenford branch
Are you ever going to show your face In a video one day?
I can get out and push the train off from a start faster than this can accelerate!! Even the 30 year old 142's can get going faster.
I hope this is just a badly coded train and not representative of the real thing.
Daniel Gregory - This train does have a very bad acceleration.
166 brakes on train sim are horrid.
PTGrail my real name is alfie but I'm using the my mom's acount
That interesting. I can tell that Laura is your mum's name.
Trains Fan / shelby3024 LOL! How did you work that one out? ;) :p
