Kudos for keeping the settings mostly the same in comparison and also using a relatively clean tone from the start. I've been using a OCD Ver. 1.4 at 18volts for years on my gigging pedalboard for a long time. I could be mistaken but the 1.4 has a germanium diode so they should be close; however, that type of substance for diodes has many variances, supposedly every "batch" sounds and tests different.
Thank you!! You are 100% correct about the diodes being different in every batch. I love my v4 but the Ge just had another element that works on some clean mild crunch tones that i really like.
To me the OCD germanium is like Head and shoulders better it just sounds way better way warmer it holds the character of the guitar itself much better and with full tone going out of business blink and you won't be able to see any more of these pedals at a good price I was at this one Cafe website earlier today and I saw it for $90 and I'm like wow I wish I had the money I would go get it so fast this is just a really great pedal I think it's an extreme improvement over the original OCD because it's just a better sounding drive it's not as compressed but that's what makes it sound good it sounds way more natural and it doesn't destroy the character of your guitar this is going to be one of these pedals they're going to be talking about for years from now because on the secondary market right now I saw it on reverb for $340 that's just crazy money so yeah this is going to be one of those pedals that people are going to be talking about for a long time I think as one of Mike Fullerton's classic designs one of the best things he's ever done this and the queen bee fuzz I think are the best two things he's come out with for the longest time but yeah I don't know man I think it's way better way better than the original OCD it just sounds better and the pedal itself looks better and the blue LED is way cooler
@Archtop78 I think you may be right. The Ge is a bit more clearer to me and the 1.4 has more balls but up the middle at 12 o'clock they are very similar. You are the first to suggest this by the way. Good call!
@@tonymac7272 i’m a Lap Steel player… The OCD is by far and away, for whatever reason, the best overdrive pedal I’ve found for Lap Steel. I’m kind of obsessed with them! I need to try to get my hands on an early 1.2….
I have these two pedals now and somewhat agree. As to using OCD-Ge as a boost, that's find yet to engage the diodes typically you have to get the gain to around 1 o'clock. Otherwise, a simple boost pedal would probably work as well, no?
Yes a simple boost would work fine but my point is that you have more options and CAN use as a boost if you wanted to at any point. there is a tonal difference between using a boost pedal and using the Ge pedal as one a well. It's better in my opinion. Your point is valid though.
@@tonymac7272 Thanks for the reply. Yes, I understood. I do think these two pedals sound notably different. I'm a Tube Screamer guy so to my ears, the early OCD sounds better as I like a bit more compression. I think the GE, though, does a great job of what I would call "fuzz/distortion" at high gain.

Real sounds and settings when testing pedals. Warren Zevon rocks!
Exactly, right! I'm tired of hearing demos that really just show off the players skills. Thanks for the comment!
Excellent review!
Thanks, man! Glad you liked it!
Excellent comparison Tony ... look forward to more as I'm now subscribed.
Thanks, Wayne!

Nice comparative demo - thanks!!
Thanks for watching👍
1.4 is my fav of all of them…. Im pretty sure v1.4 switched to germanium clipping diodes so they’re probably very similar….

@Archtop78 I had an early 1.2 and it was amazing but think the Ge is still better.
@@tonymac7272 thanks for the insight!

I agree Robert. I also have a Tube Screamer 808. I'm a junkie lol
@@tonymac7272 Love my 808 as well and never thought I'd replace it. Landed an TS-9 with the Analog Man mod and I have to say, I'm sold.
That's a great mod for that petal
Do you compare the LP modes? It's the only reason I use these, tbh
I do go back and forth but I really like the HP mode the best. What kind of music are you playing?
This the GE 1.01 version?
Yes it is.
Tony Mac interesting. That 1.4 is a fire breather. The GE sounds more chewy. I need a paint peeling pedal.
I need both. I need transparency even I play my lighter rock stuff. The bits articulate better. But I love the 1.4 just as much.
