This is the real comparison where I hear the difference
Thank you
Thank you for this. I just ordered the germanium based on this. I like your playing too!
Excellent demo man👍.....Thanks. You made it easy to hear the differences.....nice work.
Thank you for testing this pedal with low gain.
Germanium has very "clean edges". Phenomenal
Nice comparison. I'm not selling my 2014 OCD v1.7 - anytime soon or ever. If it ain't broke . . . Don't fix it !!!
1.7 is one of the best versions!
I agree as well.
Awesome review, thanks!
the germanium has more bass, also is more bluessy/ hendrix....? the ocd is more middle sound, w/sharp attack.... like Marshall ac/dc....? Well, it's my opinion....
As a new watcher of your channel only this week, I am glad to say I think you're on the way to greatness! My #1 complaint is almost every gear channel plays nothing but single coil guitars like strats etc thru low gain amps and is all blues or hipster rock stuff. There are 10s or 1000s of us who would like to see all this gear with humbuckers, with high gain amps, in different techniques and styles to see how it could benefit us. Not all the old farts playing dad rock ( no offense, I love SRV and Pink Floyd too :p ) but you know what I mean. Hardly ever do I get to truly understand a piece of gear and how I could use it. And yourself, playing some bluesy stuff, classic stuff, and even some chugs really helps to show what the pedal can do. Thank you!
That’s a great demo. Thank you.
Just got the GE version and it def sounds awesome. Great demo man!
That's what I call a comparison : helpful, made for others. Thank you.
I own both but just can’t find a spot on my pedal board the Germanium, in front of any amp I try. Love the original.
Great comparison!
Fantastic comparison! That's how it should be done.
Thanks, very helpful
The Ge one is warmer.
I can hear a difference even on the tiny little speakers of my MS Surface. The germanium diode version sounds noticeably "cleaner" to me. I'm wondering if the Ge diode is the only difference between the two, or if the EQ was tweaked and might be responsible for some or all of the apparent tonal difference. It's sad, but these days it's often difficult to tell whether you're really buying what you think you are, or if you're falling for "clever" marketing tricks. I don't know much about Fulltone as a company, so it's not my intention to imply they'd resort to trickery to make sure the more expensive boutique version of a pedal sounds obviously different than the original, but from my perspective, if you don't employ a little skepticism to make purchasing decisions nowadays, you're likely to get fleeced. If the Ge diode(s?) is/are really the only difference, it's quite remarkable. I just bought and started reading a book on tube guitar amps written by a long time amp builder and found it interesting that per him, there's no question that components which on paper are identical can sometimes result in a night and day difference when it comes to tone. I'm totally on board with that, I just like to make sure things are what they appear to be before spending more to acquire them. 😉🤷😁👍
Well this might ditch a lot of the fets that make the design amp-y. Because the Germanium diode's tone should be more focal. But I'm no expert
hello, what is the name of this book?
@ClusterFugue pedals are usually built with components of 20% toleance...therefore when you add up the sum total of everything throughout the circuit there can be quite a range of tonal difference.
When someone makes a "clone" of a pedal they usually just copy the circuit part for part, which leads to the same type if situation insofar as tonal variances .
A lot if times a builder will alter the circuit or component values to result in a pedal that sounds the same...although not a 100% part for part clone.
Now, if you really like the sound of a particular individual pedal, it would make sense to spec out each component and then build the new pedal with parts of the exact same value using 1% tolerance components. ;)
The beauty is … only you can decide what you like , I have two small pedalboards , with a V2 on one and the GE on the other as my main drive , they both sound very useful on a clean channel to my ears … my overdrives of choice after 45 years
great tones
The v.2 has more attack, I like it. Too much smooth an clear the Ge, to my ears
Ge is smoother most definitely
I got the v2 because it’s just sounds creamy. I like them both but I use my boss tuner as buffer and Mesa boogie at the end of my chain.i use to have to buffers every in behind the germanium stuff. I had those things every.where Although I like em they’re just big of pain in the ass.
I have the ocd v2 and 1.7 plus the ge. I just think that GE sounds like all the other overdrives out there little to fuzzy. Most people are so burned out on overdrive and distortions but the ocd keeps selling. in my opinion it went from the tube screamer to the klon and now the ocd everything else is a copy.
Which one is your favorite then?
The Ge is brighter, I prefer the white V2.
Very tiny differences. The Ge has a little creamier sound I think, whereas the v2 has a little more clarity. But other than that they are very similar.
Prefer the smoothness of the GE
GE has lower gain and that's about it. I can get the same sound from the V2 by pulling the knob back a little bit. Save your money, get the V2 while you still can.
Same thing different colors
사람들이 게르마늄이 좋다 하지만
실제로 그냥 ocd 가 더 시원하고 왜곡이 적고 더 멋진 소라야
Old OCD has more teeth. The G sounds muffled
Barely hear any difference
Keep listening…he is spot on with his synopsis
wonder why your 2.0 has blue light?!
Good question, our most recent batch came with blue ones....
@@MusicBlissMalaysiaTV Fulltone started shipping with blue LEDs towards the end of 2019. Mike updated both pedals w/ less compression beginning March '20, these also have the blue LEDs. During the pandemic at least, you can identify the 2.01's by his signature on the bottom.
@@jhaft703 Interesting tidbit.....and thanks. How did you come by this info? Now there's even more models to be confused by, lol.
@@Auen73 Because this is now the actual version 2. If your input/output jacks are centered on the box, then it is an actual version 2. If not it is one of the multiple version 1.1- 1.2- 1.3 etc.
@@classicalguitarchase Right on, my mistake. What I thought Jason H meant was.....That there is a more compression & less compression version of the (creme) 2.0 OCD. As well as.....A more compression and a less compression version of the Germanium OCD (blue). Which would make like.....4 versions of 2.0...lol. I owned a 1.3 for a long time......to fat, to dark, no cut. Made single coils sound huge and open though.....no humbuckers allowed. ....1.7 is a much better, and more usable in every way IMO......no drama....it just works.
Actually the differences are so small
Point....I'd say it's something you'll feel more in the room.
Germanium has more clarity. I don’t think you get an OCD for clarity, they both sound great
Is it possible to get slashs tone on an OCD pedal
Probably
Absolutely. Combined with a vintage Marshall amp, gain around 6 or 7, and a high presence around 7 as well.
