You say "I'm getting old." Shakespeare looks in the mirror and says, “Devouring Time, blunt thou thy lion’s paws.” Now that's poetry. (I can say this as I'm 74 and, like you, I stepped out the back door when the Grim Reaper came a-knockin'.) We may sometimes suck at poker, but we've sucked out on life.
Oh! A fellow free roller of life!! I’m still enjoying my free roll, it’s kinda amazing I’m still here after all the stuff I went through. I set the over under line at 2 years and I took the under. Alas, 9 years later, I’m still here 😀
In the AA hand, heads up ur small flop bet is fine. But AA doesnt play as well multiway, so theres something to be said for sizing up on the flop multiway, even on dry flops. Multiway its harder to tell where we're at on the turn.
I equate poker to driving a five speed car. You must be able to shift at different speeds every session. Can't get stuck at the same speed your whole session. You become predictable.
@cornell Thats too basic. More importantly, u gotta be at the correct gear for each situation, i.e. make correct decisions. Otherwise u can be in low gear and get sucked out on or u can be in high gear and get caught bluffing.
I really like your vlogs. Thanks for sharing a few years back: $55 an Hour Playing 1/3 Poker?, My Story. Poker Vlog 81. Good luck to you! I live in the midwest, semi-retired and trying to build a bankroll. 1-2 and 1-3. One issue that I have is that I'm hesitant about committing 3-6K as a bankroll; which means that my play is affected because I'm so reluctant to push all-in with less than the nutz. So right now I'm down $500 for the year and hoping/begging to win a small amount during sessions to get back to even. But from your videos and my other studying, I can tell it'll be tough to build a bankroll trying to do it on the cheap... Thank you again.
It’s hard to play “right” on a short bankroll. Bullying short bankroll players is one of the easiest ways to make money. It’s easy to make them fold out their equity for fear of going broke.
8:05 What about betting close to pot here? Most holdings fold, and the strong ones that follow will likely pay off when you hit your wheel or nut flush.
Another great vlog, Doug! I’m glad you’re feeling better. I had a cold last week too. It’s the cold and flu season. Take care and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! Yo Zeus!!

Im no expert but 15 preflop with AA seems a little small and lets everyone see a flop cheap. I make the same mistake all the time thats why im no expert
there's no expert playing pocket AA. The most difficult hands to play. If you flop big, no one would call. So: you cash small. If your opponent hits (2 pairs/sets/straights), you'll lose huge. So: overall score with these is negative. . $15 is a standard opening and you have to stick to it. Betting too large, would make you play with your cards face up. So one of the TWO BAD situations are going to occur: #1) you either have no callers, or #2) somebody called and plays you perfect, b/c they know what you're holding. . Example: you're (AsAc) first to act , you raise $35, 2 callers ($100 pot). Flop: 67d9h. You C-bet $50, A pocket 89d call ($300). Turn Js. You check, they bet $200. What would you do?
@@dougmccuskerpoker Hi there doug ! I’m a big fan and also play the 1/3 at capitol as well! No but you are very correct about that. Sometimes I will go to $20 just cause it’s aces but $15 is alright too. Now if it’s limp heavy maybe larger ?
On the AJcc vs QQ hand, I think you should’ve folded. As you said, you’re losing to overpairs and flipping with strong draws, and you’re near the bottom of your range after just calling a 3bet and hitting that flop. You could have TT, 88, or strong draws yourself. I think the real mistake was calling a third of your opponent’s stack preflop out of position with AJ suited.
My Sunday show, great vlog as always, if people knew how much work goes into making this show , Happy birthday young man, i hate seeing pain and bad bets but thats poker, just watched Hustler, so many gambling Asians, unreal what they call preflop for enormous amounts of $$$, seriously dangerous players as they just can go allin with nothing at anytime!! Yikes, best wishes Fraser, treatment ongoing and hard, but im no quitter!!
Thanks Fraser, hope you are doing well with your treatment. I’ve played in a few games where any size raise was just an invitation to join. Hard to win unless you are making some hands.
Like your channel & In regard to the First hand with AA for small stakes, I think it was a small bet also for $15.00 donk players love to limp in with random hands with mid raises for this particular reason. I could be wrong but ideally id bump it up to $25-$35 to get the donks that play 5-6 off out of the hand. Yes it would possibly give away my hand strength but with AA id rather play heads up. I could be wrong but from my experience in lower stakes donks love to play 5-6 suited or off suit if it’s cheap enough to see a flop, id rather not make any money on AA than to give them a cheap flop.
@@kayanhashemi7419 I try to use the same sizing with all my opening hands. The difference is the size of the stacks and the action at the table. My mistake was not adjusting properly to the action at the table. I would open for 20 with all my playable hands. I know this doesn’t shut out loose players, but I want action from the loose players.
@ I totally understand your logic there, it makes sense. Personally i’d like to try and get heads up with AA I understand getting lose players to get in on the action but they’re still getting an opportunity to out kick your strong hand for cheaper price however for $20 that would be more ideal too. From my own experience id rather either make allot with AA playing with another strong hand heads up or I’d rather not make any money at all, it’s kinda counter intuitive but maybe I’m a fish who knows lol. It’s worked for me in the past Sorry about the -1k session you had, I’m sure by the next few Vlogs you will be back up in no time, keep up the good work.

Your bet sizing time after time is destroying your wins and profits. You let too many people in with marginal hands in the pots with your premium hands
Doug, blame yourself for Aces debacle. You preflop raise way too small, but worse than that, you make a puny flop bet, inviting everyone (that you already invited preflop) to continue. You better give that some more study.
You raise more with AK, and bet your opponent out, winning a small pot, BUT you didn’t LOSE a big one. You don’t seem to be afraid of showing aggression with bupkis, but lolly-gag your way through strong hands.
Good board to continue bluffing. Only a 4 would feel comfortable. Most 4s would bet themselves with that many opponents, I couldn’t resist going for it.
Please don't take this as insulting bc it's not. You often undervalue probabilities when you have several opponents and bet too small yo protect your hand. facts bet sizing matters . for AA its $22.00 preflop get those connectors to fold.
