Thanks Mark! I really wish I would have gotten the lighting better on this video since it was a little tough to see what I was doing there, but I think the process came across ok. Appreciate you watching - hope you found it useful!
Thank you so much!I was about to go buy a new holster for my 1911 and I tried this and it’s got the retention of a new holster again! Its videos like this that restore my faith in humanity. Thanks again brother!
Dude, you got a subscribe just for the "hard part". I knew that's what it was going to be, but I still love that gag anyway. I've done this probably a hundred times over the years so I wanted to see if maybe you had some other way that's better, but we do ours exactly the same (guess if it ain't broke, y'know?) but I appreciate that you took the time to make the video for people who haven't wet formed leather before. +Like and subscribed. You're a good dude. Keep making awesome videos.
@@RobsBackyardBBQ it's easy to pick apart your own videos and be like "I wish I had done this better" or "this lighting/angle/focus/composition could've been better", but honestly it turned out great and people can see and hear the information they need to do exactly what you're teaching them, and at the end of the day that's the most important thing. Sure, it's nice for videos to be pretty, or entertaining, but what you do is far more valuable. I've been checking out more of your videos, and I'm glad you're here man. You add something to this platform of real worth because thanks to you someone can stand back and admire what you taught them to do, and have a sense of accomplishment. They can look at it and go "I did that, with my own hands". And *you* give them the chance to feel that way. Please keep making videos!
Im going to thumbs up just because of the Flyers hoodie! Lol Seriously, your video will come in handy for me someday. I'm researching sheaths so I can restore some hunting knives that have been laying around for years that were my dad's that need alot of attention. Since his passing I realize I should know more. Bringing his knives back to new life and the leather care is like going down a rabbit hole. I bet he didn't know this one though lol Go Flyers! or at least win a few lol!
The 110 Buck is a great knife & used to be $27ea. ! Now I buy the PLASTIC HANDLE 110! There's 2 models BUT select the one with the higher quality steel! $29. It's a lot lighter! Yes, I carry several things! FLASHLIGHT, CELL, ETC. weight is important!
More is not always better. Use warm water & soak under that tap or for a short period just as the video shows. I over did it & soaked in hot water for 5mins - this severely shrunk & weakened the leather to the point that the knife would no longer fit & the leather strap ripped when I snapped it into place. Wasn't a real expensive sheath but was a good learning experience.
Did this with a sheath that wouldn't hold the blade upside down. Blade stays in now. Your right, the hard part is leaving it to dry. BTW I recently checked out a brand on Amazon called GCS. If you collect you should check them out. The knife I picked out is D2 steel with a black micarta handle. The workmanship on the sheath was excellent. :)
Cool trick. I wonder if a metal drink storing stick or whatever they're called with a metal ball on the end of them would make that even easier and more precise too perhaps being it doesnt feel the pressure of pushing on it? Hmmmm seriously sweet though man. I'll definitely be doing this to A LOT of cases hahaha
Water is not the friend of leather or knife blades! I recommend using Mink Oil on the leather to form it and to use WD-40 on knife metal parts to clean them.
I'm not sure if the 110 and 112 sheaths are different - thinking maybe they're different, but you'd still wet form it the same way. Did your 112 come with one?
@@RobsBackyardBBQ I have a 112 Pro, and the sheath is sized to properly fit the smaller 112 knife versus the 110 sheath. Thanks for making this video. I’m looking forward to forming sheaths for the 110 and 112 knives I currently have.
Hey Nate - thanks for watching! I think your idea of backwards and my idea of backwards is backwards lol. I'm right handed, wear it on my right hip, the butt of the knife is facing up, and the back strap is facing forward.
Guarantee that water is not too hot for your wife’s hands...my wife can hold pans and silverware under the hot water on full hot like she is a cyborg. I can’t even touch the water she holds her hands under.
I like your approach to videos. No BS just right to the point and direct. Nice job.

FINALLY! I FOUND EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED TO KNOW!
Thanks!!!
Thnx, it was so stressful not having it over night

I just got my first 110 today and this trick worked great. 👍 Thanks man

I got 6 buck knives that all thank you. 😊
I’m trying to shrink a pair of leather gloves and this guy was super helpful

Never thought about wrapping the knife to protect it from the water. Thanks!
Let me know how it goes!
Great little tutorial for us knife lovers. 🍻🥃
Thanks Nick!
Vacuum sealer works well to form em too.

Good stuff - thanks for the tips! Would an additive like Murphy's Oil Soap better condition the leather or make it too soft to hold the molded shape?

You rock man
I have shears and a splicing knife I’m going to do this with. Surprised I haven’t lost them yet.
For 112 is the same? Or there is a diferent sheath? Thanx for idea

Does that work with any leather? Soft leather?
Yeah, I think I've done this with various leathers..
That's awesome 👌
My holster base holes in it will this still work
Sure it'll still work. Let me know how it goes!
Can I do this with a light holster if the flashlight is a few mm bigger and I barely can fit it in? It fits but I really have to put it in there.
It could work but im not 100% sure
Awesome...thanks!
Wow that's a cool trick 👍👍
Thanks man - I do it to all my leather sheaths and holsters!
I'll give it a try and put it on a video 📸💰📸
Thank you 😊
Super weird man, I just found my old buck knife, the same as yours.. 10 mins later I sat at my desk and UA-cam recommends this video out of the blue
haha.. google is always listening/watching!
Let’s go FLYERS ! That’s how I broke in my Galco holster for my Colt 1911 Rail Gun .
We got it next year! Yeah, super handy method for lots of thinks!
Thanks
Going through the hardest part now 😅
haha nice - hope it works out!
Thanks.
Are you left handed? They're both sheathed backwards.

haha Keith - you're probably right. Thinking back, i probably should have had her do this video lol.
Cooooool
2 THUMBS UP!
Go Flyers
Instead of wasting all that water let it soak in a plastic tray!!!!
Wasting water lol
Spent 3 hours stamping a design for my sheath and it came off because of the hot water and pressing on it to mold the leather. I want a refund lmao
The normal sheath looks better
