    the heat is a factor only if you are not used to it....people from SE Asia, Australia, southern states of the US for example would not find it an issue. I have been to Japan several times in those months and found it to be great but I am from Perth in Western Australia where it can get much hotter (though not with the humidity usually). There is a certain charm in walking the streets of Tokyo, or anywhere else in Japan, on a warm summer evening with the sound of crickets chirping and frogs croaking 🙂

    Texans would love to have 85 degree summer days. We are lucky to have 85 degree summer nights. Our mosquitos and humidity are legendary. Japan has typhoons while we have hurricanes.

    Good commentary! I lived in Japan for several years and the summers are miserable. I call at 100 days of hell from June 1 until early September. You know it’s going to be a miserable day add to that all the tourists and then the Japanese families Start heading out in mid July until late August. It’s overwhelming. I think the best time to visit Japan is late. March/early April so you can see the cherry blossoms. I think it’s funny how these people from Arizona and New Mexico think that 85° is going to be cool. Add 90% humidity to that and probably 90°, it’s a high pain index.

    Living in central Texas and Albuquerque New Mexico for many years 85 degrees is a cool summer day compared to the common 100+ degree summer day.

    I like the hot & humid Japan summer. But I HATE the japanese winter. Its really bad inside the japanese cold houses. I prefer to be outside, try to not stay at home. Summer is okay though, not so bad as japanese people say.

    What about Hokkaido end of Aug to early September?

    • @taroubb1940
      @taroubb1940 7 днів тому

      Hokkaido would be the best place to visit during the summer in Japan. During the day time, the direct sun light is as bad as Tokyo, but not humid in the most area. And in the night, the temperature dramatically drops. i.e. Sapporo, the capital city, the high temp is 32C/90F, but it drops down to 15C/59F at night.
      Also, usually, from mid-August, the temperature starts to drop in Hokkaido, so I bet your time would be pretty comfortable temperature-wise.
      Keep in mind that Hokkaido is a fairly large island, so depending on where you go, the temperature changes drastically. The central and southern areas are generally hotter than other areas.

      Hokkaido is great in the summer, I've visited in June, July and autumn in September. It is never humid like Tokyo or Osaka. Made the mistake of visiting Tokyo in early September once, moisture just automatically gathered on my skin as soon as I stepped out from Narita airport due to the high humidity. Thankfully humidity decreased over the next few days. Based on this experience I will never again visit Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto between June to September.
      Anyway back to Hokkaido. In June or July you get bright sunshine with blue skies and fluffy cotton-like clouds during summer (really scenic if you like blue skies). Although temperature is warm, there is this ever blowing cool breeze, so there's zero humidity and you're actually good with UV sun block lotion and a cap (or umbrella). Mid to late July is best if you want to visit the lavender fields at Nakafurano park or Farm Tomita, August will be to late to view lavender flowers as they'll all be harvested.
      It may rain frequently if you visit in September, so bring an umbrella. For me, the best time to visit is mid to late July to view lavender flowers in full bloom & enjoy fresh Yubari Melon and Yubari or lavender ice-cream at Nakafurano park and Farm Tomita. Or visit Sapporo city from 6 to 29 September 2024 this year, to enjoy the diverse food (and beer) available at the annual Sapporo Autumn food Festival held at Odori Park in the heart of the city. So many tasty food stalls set up there, that you just have to visit the place over and over again.
      No worries about suffering from humidity or heat stroke from June to September in Hokkaido, as long as you apply sunblock lotion and wear a cap (or carry an umbrella). Hokkaido is the only place in Japan that you can visit during summer (June to September)

    I'm sorry, I have to because it's the only time I can ascend Fuji-San. It's fine though, I'm from Florida and have done a lot of walking here so I'll be alright with the humidity and staying hydrated.
