I could not imagine a facility like this existing in a major US city like LA or NYC - people would vandalize and destroy it. Tokyo is probably one of the most densely populated cities I've visited and yet it's so orderly, clean and civilized.
When I moved to Japan 10 years ago I couldn't believe some of the inventions I would see. Now it's like "yeah that's Japan for you". Their inventions are amazing. I especially love their village areas. They're so calming. So clean.
@@genesisreyes5815 As someone who used to work for a Japanese company and has spent a not-insignificant amount of time in Japan, I highly advise you to do your due diligence and extensively research the realities of moving to and living in Japan. In my personal opinion, Japan is fantastic to visit, but can be very difficult to live in long-term as a foreigner. Some people make it work, for sure, but even many of those people find it necessary to "go home" a couple times a year to get a break from Japanese society. Similarly, those that go over to Japan to teach English as part of the JET program or similar frequently become disillusioned with Japan and move to another country after their term. The unfortunate reality is that you will always be an "outsider" and will struggle to form meaningful relationships with anyone other than your fellow ex-pats. Without fluency in Japanese (including "keigo" or "formal language"), familiarity with Japanese business etiquette, and a marketable skillset, your employment opportunities will be extremely limited, and you are statistically most likely to end up as an English teacher making barely enough money to make ends meet.
They aren't sleep pods but very useful for the business person on the go. I was running between stations for work and an emergency came up, so I managed to jump into one of the booths for a zoom meeting. Very useful. These popped up around covid times, though some existed before then too.
If they were sleeping pods someone would have to clean it hourly. But I agree for business travelers,students and those that need a break from the noise and congestion this will help a lot.

Japan is one of those places I think I'd want to travel to to just see "ordinary" stuff like this. Not really tourist attractions or natural wonders, just a bit of everyday life in places like this.
i used to live there for 6 months in kumamoto where there's barely anything to see for tourists but it was so nice! i feel so refreshed just by taking a walk around the city and seeing ordinary things

for someone who has been living in Tokyo for more than 7 years, I can say you are better off look for net cafe nearby, some of them have private room with sound proofing. You can also choose between reclining chair/mattress. Free drink bar as well, free to use shower (bring your own towel though). Cheaper than these station pod (which are aimed towards people that are late for meeting due to train problem etc). I never really see anyone use it before.
@@1953lili idk where this idea comes from. Japan is quite good at keeping trains on time and is rarely late but it happens enough to not be on the news every time. Delays make the news when the cause is a big deal, not because the train is late
Don't shoot the messenger! I heard the train was less than a minute late and the next day the newspaper issued an apology! Meanwhile, Amtrak in the states is always late but no apology issued! You misunderstood my post.....when I was there in 1999 with my students Ando sensei told me to look for Mt. Fuji at exactly 11:30 am while on the way to Tokyo. And that's exactly when it came into view!

In the U.S. there would be piles of needles, people would be living in them and the few open ones would be gross and graffiti from wall to all and everything including the little fan would be stolen. 😮 😂😅
When I used to travel I would love booking minute suites or stopping by a quiet place in a lounge. The mental value of just spending as little as 15 mins in quiet and isolated space on a day of travel cannot be overstated. It doesn’t take long to completely change your stress level for the day.
For someone that doesn't like large crowds, this would be amazing to pass the time. It's nice that you can leave, grab some treats, and come back and have your luggage waiting there safely.
@@mashable8759 it's a cultural thing. Most Asian countries are considerate about illnesses. As in if someone is sick but they still need to head out, they will wear a mask. Or maybe they don't want to catch a cold. There's also the summer sand storm that sweeps in the area and it's highly advised to wear a mask. Wearing a mask is the norm way before covid
That might be cool where you are, but here in Japan people are so repressed that they do not know how to interact with others. They call themselves shy but they make themselves shy or society does. You could spend years working with someone and never know when his birthday is.
I'm in Silicon Valley. For being so "high tech", it amazes me how far behind we really are. Always wanted to go go Japan, where people are actually respectful and clean.
I went to Japan and it's a beautiful place. People are very polite and respectful. It's a very clean place. I felt safe over there. I loved it over there.
Ive always said there needs to be more places in cities to take a nap! Cities are exhausting, so its great to have a quiet place to chill for a couple of hours, great idea! Love it!

I'm pretty fascinated by the accommodations that Japan has. Everything about them feel orderly and sort of futuristic, yet not going overboard on technology, only being used for convenience, and I love that. It gives Japanese cities so much character that many other cities in many other countries lack.
First time I visited Japan, in 2019, the first thing that blew my mind was public restrooms with bidets and/or heated seats. Also, ekiben, or train lunch boxes, is a genius idea for cities that run 24/7. Want a bento, but no time to prep or you're a tourist that's always on the go? grab a box from the store AT THE PLATFORM, or while inside the train (at least in the bullet train, from what I experienced). ... I miss Japan...
They have express stores at most train stations around the world, often on platform in the west. Excluding the USA that is. They do not serve food in European trains anymore tho, so that’s definitely still a Japanese pro
I was there too in 2019 just before the pandemic hit. It was amazing. The food at the train station, those mini marts thst sell quality good food, the vending machines on almost every block with healthy drinks to buy. The subway station with up and down arrows so traffic can flow fast and efficient. Even how you they share umbrellas when it rains. You just grab one and then drop it off at another place for someone else to use. The community conveniences impressed me so much. The people not only gave us directions but walked us to our air bnb. I want to retire there. I loved Japan.

These things would most certainly make a lot of sense in a lot of other countries. Tons of tired people in stations everywhere have looked at the luggage lockers and thought: "I wish they were just a bit larger, so I could fit in to safely take a nap... "
They sort of exist in a lot of countries, but just as quiet work pods. They won’t have coffee machines, or at least not in the Netherlands, but they’re usually near a cafe anyway so you could of course always grab a snack before entering. They’re less common at stations and more common at colleges, library’s and business parks tho.
Watching this in the middle of the night and makes me really wonder how Japan is light years ahead in so many ways. The perfection in the details and cleanness is mind-blowing. Very enjoyable video and thanks for letting the images speak for themselves by avoiding narration.

What's bizarre is I remember traveling on the West Coast of the US as a kid and in a lot of places 20 years ago this is how a standard accommodation would be. You never see this kind of thing anymore here. But Japan will always be civilized enough inter-personally to be able to have such things. I'd never want to live there personally, but that's something I'll always appreciate and really drives me to want to visit again someday.

I've been in Japan for the past 8 days, I've visited Tokyo and surroundings but have spent most of my time navigating through the train stations, it's soooooo overwhelming. I am amazed at how every one functions here, and yes very clean despite lack of garbage cans.
How do they do that in Japan, the people, did you notice or do you have any idea? Do people keep wrappers, packages etc with them till they can dispose of them? Or do they only open up, unpack, unwrap things inside buildings (like inside the shop they are, inside any accommodation they may be in)?

For park, convin stores, tourist spots etc., there are rubbish bins (because eating is ok there). From my knowledge I remember Japanese usually take their rubbish back home and they sort their rubbish for recycling.
I went to Japan as a child in the early 90s and remember being in awe of so many things. Especially any kind of vending machine. It felt very advanced at the time but I don’t remember many details. Just feeling so impressed.
It's crazy to see the complete 180 western civilization had on Japanese civilization. Before it was "Tried and true, tradition and honor." Where everyone regardless of class was allowed to wear a sword and armour. And after it was "Endless advancement and wealth" where outside of a handful of enthusiasts, only the ruling class has permission to own swords that can throw other swords at 1000ft per second at 350 rounds per sec.
Same here, except I was there in the mid 80s my first time. I was in Tokyo and they had Cherry Coke in the machines before the US and I went to Shakeys pizza on the Ginza and they put seaweed on the pizza. Japan is thee Best!) They have Thee Best candy, gummies, and pop/soda as well. Also had delicious cold iced coffee in cans before the US. They put America to shame since then to now, hands down. Cheers🤙

I think "nap pods" at airports, etc., are a really great idea, especially when your flight gets cancelled four times and you have an unexpected 3-hour delay.
Shoot try flying non rev after a canceled flight you could be at the airport for days. Non rev means non revenue, free flights for employees their immediate family and parents. My parents got stuck in Japan for 3 days with my lil bro sister because 1 flight got canceled. Nice to fly free but it can a pain in the ass
The same thing used to be said about Germany. Today Germany is a shithole, the cities are dirty and overcrowded with impoverished migrants who hang around on park benches and harass people. You hardly ever see Germans anymore, especially in the mornings. After all, they have to work and get the money for the young men. Europe's days are numbered, perhaps those of the entire West. Now the Asian age begins.
I lived in Japan for 10 years from 1989 to 1999 and I used to stay in the capsule hotels all the time they weren’t in the stations they were freestanding but they were usually located next to stations or a very close within walking distance to stations they were a trip I love those things I wish they’d have them in the US Those capsule hotels have restaurants in them they were open all night saunas they were great! What a great concept
Unfortunately, in the US, they would be broken into and taken over by either: drug addicts or homeless people and would become a city nuisance. We can't have nice things in the US here 🤷♀

When my life is downsized and simple, I am going to vacation in Japan for a month. Elderly style. Slow and relaxing. Foods, walk in parks, and meet beautiful people. I love Japanese people. Would be fun to just say hello.

Tokyo has always been advanced. The first time I went in the mid 90's they had things the US and Europe had only begun to actualize. It was incredible.
Around 2012 for me. Went to Tokyo and I remember being in awe of their underground infrastructure, particularly the subway and malls. It was like a second city down there.

Most of the science and tech knowledge was planted by European and American scientist. Most new advancements and technologies are envisioned and started by US inventors. The only difference is technology is slower to be implemented in the western countries for mass population use.
I follow multiple Japanese influencers. It all happened naturally without noticing me being drawn. Their tips and insights have made a difference in my daily life! Then I realized Im being drawn to their esthetic, values and vibe. I feel the beauty of Japan, whether it is urban city or rural is testament to the outlook and perspective of the Japanese people. I was fortunate enough to travel through Asia back in the mid-2000’s. Japan was, by far, my favourite place that I had visited. I’d love to go back sometime. Nice, neat things could only happen in Japan as these pods would be completely be destroyed and/vandalized in other countries.
I could see these pods working anywhere there's a lot of people. Even in train stations and airports in a small country like Norway, there would be a lot of value in being able to book a private meeting room or being able to sit in peace for a video meeting with colleagues. Or even just to rest your head for half an hour while enjoying some quiet in an otherwise busy day.

My mother in-law is from Japan. Met my father in-law when he was stationed there. It’s amazing how she up and left to come to America. I wish my husband would have embraced his Japanese heritage more, especially now that she is no longer with us, and our daughter has this amazing heritage.
I’m envious, married to an Asian man! When I took my students to Japan the male teachers were so humble and sweet and respectful. Hopefully he is still fluent so he can teach your daughter!
This would actually be kind of nice in NYC too. Sometimes you are waiting for someone, or there's a pause in your traveling where you just need somewhere private to sit for a bit that's not outside or just an uncomfortable bench. Thanks for sharing this!

What a fun video! That robot was too cute. And it did such a good job! Everything was so clean!! And there were so many people! The cleanliness and the number of people out and about on the street was a lot different than in most parts of the US.
Apart from the touristy spots that I've only ever seen in books or online, it's everyday things like this that I look forward to for my first trip to Japan next year! Love your channel!
I think it is a marvelous idea ! When I come in big cities, there is always a moment where I want to be alone because I am easily affected by noise and crowd. I also don't know where to do a quick nap sometimes to relax. To me, we, european, have a lot to understand from Japan, especially respect towards people and keep public spaces safe, clean and quiet. Paradise for me is living with very well educated people.
What you have to understand is one simple thing: Japan is not ethnically diverse and therefore japanese culture can flourish without disruption. The only thing we have to learn as europeans is border protection and deportation. It would be the most peaceful place alongside with Japan.
They aren't importing millions of illegals who NEVER have to assimilate into Western culture or respect the host population. And that's BY DESIGN to tear down Western culture.
I feel like I could walk around anywhere in Japan with no worries even a night...Looks like such clean, well organized, bright and healthy place to live. Definitely fun place to visit

Visiting Japan is one of my dreams. I'd want to go for like a month and just see stuff. I want to see everything, the hustle and bustle of the big cities, the smaller villages, the shrines, the nature, the people, the culture. Shame I doubt I'll ever be able to afford such a trip. Oh well, at least videos like this are plentiful and give me a taste of the dream lol.
I bet you van make it work, just think I bet you can get a Passport, that alone is huge, many people cant even travel because they cant get one, with a US Passport you can travel anywhere, yeah you need cash too but like any dream you work for it save and eventually you’ll have enough, think about it
You can probably do it on a budget. The yen is weak to the dollar right now, so if you can save up $800-1000 for airfare during the slow season, and stay outside of Tokyo, it'll be pretty affordable. The main cost is mostly the airfare.
This is a very sane feature to have at bus stations or airports! Lets you escape the confusion of people for a little while, which can be very restorative.

@@tevarinvagabond1192 I don't think Steve Rogers is being toxic. I actually agree with him. I think some places would be better than others depending on the types of people going through these areas. If the airport happens to have mostly business travelers going through, then it would be better for the most part, but if it's an airport that caters to a lot of other demographics (high tourist area) then all bets are off. And yes, price point is a HUGE factor.
It won't work in the United States because the majority of people got no respect for public places. Most people don't follow rules in the United States.
This works because according to their experiment, caffeine will take about 30 minutes to get into effect. Therefore if you drink a cup of coffee and then take a nap immediately, after 30 minutes you would wake yourself and feel your energy replenished. I heard there is another type of pod in standing position that can provide better sleep in the same small space. It will be nicer if there's not glass door or they can provide thick curtain so it can be dark inside though.
You are one of the few tarvel-loguers that actually gives you the price of food and other items. It makes it a lot more real. Most people think Japan is out of their financial range, but that $8 supper looked damned good to me.
I taught English in Tokyo in 1991 and 1992, and my main eki was Ikebukuro. I lived in two gaijin houses and had Japanese friends. I spent a lot of time on the Yamanote loop and Shinjuku. Some updates, but you can see the old bones of the city - not much seems to have changed, really. Certainly, the vibe is the same. You have to see past the ever-present Japanese sugary trash culture to the elegant and beautiful roots-history, art, landscape to enjoy Japan, I believe. I feel so fortunate and grateful to have spent time there.
Man... If there's any born-and-raised Japanese people that live in Japan currently, reading this... I'm jealous of how nice daily life looks. For an outsider, this is like Seventh Heaven. Japan, or at least Tokyo, looks like the kind of retro-futuristic cities that shows like Akira and Cyberpunk advertise.

Me and my bf have been to Japan once and I fell in love with it. Though the train stations gets really busy and I am a little claustrophobic so I didn’t enjoy that part much 😵💫😢 Between Tokyo and Osaka, I prefer Osaka.. I can’t wait to go back!! 😊

Ahh, I miss my Tokyo visits, just sitting at Shibuya for hours taking in the futuristic sights and sounds and occasionally chatting with random people. I can understand how some people have dystopian anxiety but I love the sensation, almost like taking little glimpses of the future. These pods would be so cool to relax on a stopover but here in Germany they would be trashed and misused by drunks and addicts in no time, and would be dirty as feck. Most of the simple luggage lockers at the main station don't even work most of the time.

The public bathrooms at the airport in Paris was the worst I’ve seen of all places (urine and toilet papers on floor in every stall so bad and that’s airport I couldn’t believe it…) and I’ve visited many many countries and have lived in several also, it was so disgusting I couldn’t use them, I waited till I got to a hotel...

Japan is weird in how it embraces certain advancements and resists others. So you might encounter a hyper-advanced robotic vending machine or high speed train, but fax machines and floppy disks are still in wide spread use.
They seem to be obsessed with just small areas of technology. In reality places like sweden and Germany are getting ahead. Theres really nothing here that couldnt have been done 20 years ago except maybe the floating touch screen.

Awesome! Everything is so organized and clean. This is what happens when you foster a love for your country and reinforce that in the schools. You can see what happens when schools don't have janitors and Japanese children are taught to keep their schools clean themselves. No wonder they become adults who keep their country clean. Looks like this is what happens when you have politicians who actually care about their country. No wonder Japan has the 3rd highest economy in the world.
I think that is the most wonderful thing in the world for Japan to have something like this to be able when you're tired to be able to relax for a little while it's beautiful why can't other countries do the same and be civilized like that
{Japan} looks to be dropping its standards. Clear lack of privacy, being compelled to pay *[an absolute fortune]* to a corporation for potentially unsanitary tea and coffee making facilities - AND in the manner in which *they* restrict you to paying. AND after you have to go through the process of sacrificing your privacy to get the morale sapping experience. That doesn't sound like the Japan *_I_* know. Sounds like an insidious perversion of what once WAS Japan. Except this time, corporate rot has taken a hold.
For someone like me who thrives in silence and order, Japan seems perfect. No excess noise, being polite is an attribute, and everything is efficient. UA-cam is making me rethink retiring in Greece. lol

Funny to see how there was a Belgian (or Belgium-inspired, my home country) shop in the station: "Manneken"; it's a reference to the little peeing man statue we have in our capital (Brussels). And of course, the shop is selling waffles - Brussels and Liège waffles, I think. I could not imagine a facility like this existing in a major US city like LA or NYC - people would vandalize and destroy it. Tokyo is probably one of the most densely populated cities I've visited and yet it's so orderly, clean and civilized.

When I moved to Japan 10 years ago I couldn't believe some of the inventions I would see. Now it's like "yeah that's Japan for you". Their inventions are amazing. I especially love their village areas. They're so calming. So clean.

@@genesisreyes5815 As someone who used to work for a Japanese company and has spent a not-insignificant amount of time in Japan, I highly advise you to do your due diligence and extensively research the realities of moving to and living in Japan. In my personal opinion, Japan is fantastic to visit, but can be very difficult to live in long-term as a foreigner. Some people make it work, for sure, but even many of those people find it necessary to "go home" a couple times a year to get a break from Japanese society. Similarly, those that go over to Japan to teach English as part of the JET program or similar frequently become disillusioned with Japan and move to another country after their term.
The unfortunate reality is that you will always be an "outsider" and will struggle to form meaningful relationships with anyone other than your fellow ex-pats. Without fluency in Japanese (including "keigo" or "formal language"), familiarity with Japanese business etiquette, and a marketable skillset, your employment opportunities will be extremely limited, and you are statistically most likely to end up as an English teacher making barely enough money to make ends meet.
Yes any invention can be amazing, what’s special in Japan is how they are able to monetize and generate a profit off it.
They aren't sleep pods but very useful for the business person on the go. I was running between stations for work and an emergency came up, so I managed to jump into one of the booths for a zoom meeting. Very useful. These popped up around covid times, though some existed before then too.
If they were sleeping pods someone would have to clean it hourly. But I agree for business travelers,students and those that need a break from the noise and congestion this will help a lot.

Japan is one of those places I think I'd want to travel to to just see "ordinary" stuff like this. Not really tourist attractions or natural wonders, just a bit of everyday life in places like this.
i used to live there for 6 months in kumamoto where there's barely anything to see for tourists but it was so nice! i feel so refreshed just by taking a walk around the city and seeing ordinary things

for someone who has been living in Tokyo for more than 7 years, I can say you are better off look for net cafe nearby, some of them have private room with sound proofing. You can also choose between reclining chair/mattress. Free drink bar as well, free to use shower (bring your own towel though). Cheaper than these station pod (which are aimed towards people that are late for meeting due to train problem etc). I never really see anyone use it before.

Don't shoot the messenger! I heard the train was less than a minute late and the next day the newspaper issued an apology! Meanwhile, Amtrak in the states is always late but no apology issued! You misunderstood my post.....when I was there in 1999 with my students Ando sensei told me to look for Mt. Fuji at exactly 11:30 am while on the way to Tokyo. When I used to travel I would love booking minute suites or stopping by a quiet place in a lounge. The mental value of just spending as little as 15 mins in quiet and isolated space on a day of travel cannot be overstated. It doesn’t take long to completely change your stress level for the day.

Or maybe they don't want to catch a cold. There's also the summer sand storm that sweeps in the area and it's highly advised to wear a mask. Wearing a mask is the norm way before covid

I'm pretty fascinated by the accommodations that Japan has. Everything about them feel orderly and sort of futuristic, yet not going overboard on technology, only being used for convenience, and I love that. It gives Japanese cities so much character that many other cities in many other countries lack.

First time I visited Japan, in 2019, the first thing that blew my mind was public restrooms with bidets and/or heated seats.
Also, ekiben, or train lunch boxes, is a genius idea for cities that run 24/7. Want a bento, but no time to prep or you're a tourist that's always on the go? grab a box from the store AT THE PLATFORM, or while inside the train (at least in the bullet train, from what I experienced).
... I miss Japan...
They have express stores at most train stations around the world, often on platform in the west. Excluding the USA that is.
They do not serve food in European trains anymore tho, so that’s definitely still a Japanese pro
I was there too in 2019 just before the pandemic hit. It was amazing. The food at the train station, those mini marts thst sell quality good food, the vending machines on almost every block with healthy drinks to buy. The subway station with up and down arrows so traffic can flow fast and efficient. Even how you they share umbrellas when it rains. You just grab one and then drop it off at another place for someone else to use. The community conveniences impressed me so much. The people not only gave us directions but walked us to our air bnb. I want to retire there. I loved Japan.

These things would most certainly make a lot of sense in a lot of other countries. Tons of tired people in stations everywhere have looked at the luggage lockers and thought: "I wish they were just a bit larger, so I could fit in to safely take a nap... "

They won’t have coffee machines, or at least not in the Netherlands, but they’re usually near a cafe anyway so you could of course always grab a snack before entering. They’re less common at stations and more common at colleges, library’s and business parks tho.

What's bizarre is I remember traveling on the West Coast of the US as a kid and in a lot of places 20 years ago this is how a standard accommodation would be. You never see this kind of thing anymore here. But Japan will always be civilized enough inter-personally to be able to have such things. I'd never want to live there personally, but that's something I'll always appreciate and really drives me to want to visit again someday.

I've been in Japan for the past 8 days, I've visited Tokyo and surroundings but have spent most of my time navigating through the train stations, it's soooooo overwhelming. I am amazed at how every one functions here, and yes very clean despite lack of garbage cans.
How do they do that in Japan, the people, did you notice or do you have any idea? Do people keep wrappers, packages etc with them till they can dispose of them? Or do they only open up, unpack, unwrap things inside buildings (like inside the shop they are, inside any accommodation they may be in)?
I somehow cannot imagine Japanese people eating something whilst they are on the street, whilst they are walking, outside...

For park, convin stores, tourist spots etc., there are rubbish bins (because eating is ok there). From my knowledge I remember Japanese usually take their rubbish back home and they sort their rubbish for recycling.
I went to Japan as a child in the early 90s and remember being in awe of so many things. Especially any kind of vending machine. It felt very advanced at the time but I don’t remember many details. Just feeling so impressed.
It's crazy to see the complete 180 western civilization had on Japanese civilization. Before it was "Tried and true, tradition and honor." Where everyone regardless of class was allowed to wear a sword and armour. And after it was "Endless advancement and wealth" where outside of a handful of enthusiasts, only the ruling class has permission to own swords that can throw other swords at 1000ft per second at 350 rounds per sec.

Same here, except I was there in the mid 80s my first time. I was in Tokyo and they had Cherry Coke in the machines before the US and I went to Shakeys pizza on the Ginza and they put seaweed on the pizza. Japan is thee Best!) They have Thee Best candy, gummies, and pop/soda as well. Also had delicious cold iced coffee in cans before the US. They put America to shame since then to now, hands down.

I think "nap pods" at airports, etc., are a really great idea, especially when your flight gets cancelled four times and you have an unexpected 3-hour delay.

Shoot try flying non rev after a canceled flight you could be at the airport for days. Non rev means non revenue, free flights for employees their immediate family and parents. My parents got stuck in Japan for 3 days with my lil bro sister because 1 flight got canceled. Nice to fly free but it can a pain in the ass

The same thing used to be said about Germany. Today Germany is a shithole, the cities are dirty and overcrowded with impoverished migrants who hang around on park benches and harass people. You hardly ever see Germans anymore, especially in the mornings. After all, they have to work and get the money for the young men.
Europe's days are numbered, perhaps those of the entire West. Now the Asian age begins.

I lived in Japan for 10 years from 1989 to 1999 and I used to stay in the capsule hotels all the time they weren’t in the stations they were freestanding but they were usually located next to stations or a very close within walking distance to stations they were a trip I love those things I wish they’d have them in the US Those capsule hotels have restaurants in them they were open all night saunas they were great! What a great concept
Unfortunately, in the US, they would be broken into and taken over by either: drug addicts or homeless people and would become a city nuisance. We can't have nice things in the US here 🤷♀

Tokyo has always been advanced. The first time I went in the mid 90's they had things the US and Europe had only begun to actualize. It was incredible.
And yet they are all wearing masks permanently...
It was around 2002 when I started being able to tap my phone at stores to pay for purchases.
Around 2012 for me. Went to Tokyo and I remember being in awe of their underground infrastructure, particularly the subway and malls. It was like a second city down there.

Most of the science and tech knowledge was planted by European and American scientist. Most new advancements and technologies are envisioned and started by US inventors. The only difference is technology is slower to be implemented in the western countries for mass population use.
I follow multiple Japanese influencers. It all happened naturally without noticing me being drawn. Their tips and insights have made a difference in my daily life! Then I realized Im being drawn to their esthetic, values and vibe. I feel the beauty of Japan, whether it is urban city or rural is testament to the outlook and perspective of the Japanese people. Someone is cultivating the magical, beautiful vibe of Japan. Its the people! To maintain their country with such cleanliness and respect just goes to show the character of the people. I was fortunate enough to travel through Asia back in the mid-2000’s. Japan was, by far, my favourite place that I had visited. I’d love to go back sometime. Nice, neat things could only happen in Japan as these pods would be completely be destroyed and/vandalized in other countries.

I could see these pods working anywhere there's a lot of people. Even in train stations and airports in a small country like Norway, there would be a lot of value in being able to book a private meeting room or being able to sit in peace for a video meeting with colleagues. Or even just to rest your head for half an hour while enjoying some quiet in an otherwise busy day.

My mother in-law is from Japan. Met my father in-law when he was stationed there. It’s amazing how she up and left to come to America. I wish my husband would have embraced his Japanese heritage more, especially now that she is no longer with us, and our daughter has this amazing heritage.
I’m envious, married to an Asian man! When I took my students to Japan the male teachers were so humble and sweet and respectful. Hopefully he is still fluent so he can teach your daughter!

@@SuperlunarNim Especially given how affordable they are. I worked at low end "hotel" in NYC. I can ensure you people are willing to have intercourse in these pods. Not because they want that excitement of doing it publicly, but because it costs less than renting a room.
Too many trashy people here who have no respect for these things. They'd steal or break everything in the pod and pee on the desk for good measure just because they can.

Everything was so clean!! And there were so many people! The cleanliness and the number of people out and about on the street was a lot different than in most parts of the US.
Apart from the touristy spots that I've only ever seen in books or online, it's everyday things like this that I look forward to for my first trip to Japan next year! Love your channel!
I think it is a marvelous idea ! When I come in big cities, there is always a moment where I want to be alone because I am easily affected by noise and crowd. I also don't know where to do a quick nap sometimes to relax. To me, we, european, have a lot to understand from Japan, especially respect towards people and keep public spaces safe, clean and quiet. Paradise for me is living with very well educated people.
It's a reasonable price.
What you have to understand is one simple thing: Japan is not ethnically diverse and therefore japanese culture can flourish without disruption. The only thing we have to learn as europeans is border protection and deportation. It would be the most peaceful place alongside with Japan.

Visiting Japan is one of my dreams. I'd want to go for like a month and just see stuff. I want to see everything, the hustle and bustle of the big cities, the smaller villages, the shrines, the nature, the people, the culture. Shame I doubt I'll ever be able to afford such a trip. Oh well, at least videos like this are plentiful and give me a taste of the dream lol.

Japan is extremely cheap to travel inside of once you are there. If you plan ahead and get a cheap flight it is totally possible
You can probably do it on a budget. The yen is weak to the dollar right now, so if you can save up $800-1000 for airfare during the slow season, and stay outside of Tokyo, it'll be pretty affordable. The main cost is mostly the airfare.
That my ultimate plan now i just need to save 10k-15k and go live there for 2-3 month and visit every coner of the country.
Japan has the best amenities. Many structures are so esthetically pleasing. I'd love to visit someday.
This is a very sane feature to have at bus stations or airports! Lets you escape the confusion of people for a little while, which can be very restorative.

@@tevarinvagabond1192 I don't think Steve Rogers is being toxic. I actually agree with him. I think some places would be better than others depending on the types of people going through these areas. If the airport happens to have mostly business travelers going through, then it would be better for the most part, but if it's an airport that caters to a lot of other demographics (high tourist area) then all bets are off. And yes, price point is a HUGE factor.
It won't work in the United States because the majority of people got no respect for public places. Most people don't follow rules in the United States.
This works because according to their experiment, caffeine will take about 30 minutes to get into effect. Therefore if you drink a cup of coffee and then take a nap immediately, after 30 minutes you would wake yourself and feel your energy replenished.
I heard there is another type of pod in standing position that can provide better sleep in the same small space.
It will be nicer if there's not glass door or they can provide thick curtain so it can be dark inside though.
You are one of the few tarvel-loguers that actually gives you the price of food and other items. It makes it a lot more real. Most people think Japan is out of their financial range, but that $8 supper looked damned good to me.
I taught English in Tokyo in 1991 and 1992, and my main eki was Ikebukuro. I lived in two gaijin houses and had Japanese friends. I spent a lot of time on the Yamanote loop and Shinjuku.
Some updates, but you can see the old bones of the city - not much seems to have changed, really. Certainly, the vibe is the same.
You have to see past the ever-present Japanese sugary trash culture to the elegant and beautiful roots-history, art, landscape to enjoy Japan, I believe. I feel so fortunate and grateful to have spent time there.
Man... If there's any born-and-raised Japanese people that live in Japan currently, reading this... I'm jealous of how nice daily life looks. For an outsider, this is like Seventh Heaven. Japan, or at least Tokyo, looks like the kind of retro-futuristic cities that shows like Akira and Cyberpunk advertise.

Me and my bf have been to Japan once and I fell in love with it. Though the train stations gets really busy and I am a little claustrophobic so I didn’t enjoy that part much 😵💫😢 Between Tokyo and Osaka, I prefer Osaka.. I can’t wait to go back!! 😊

Ahh, I miss my Tokyo visits, just sitting at Shibuya for hours taking in the futuristic sights and sounds and occasionally chatting with random people. I can understand how some people have dystopian anxiety but I love the sensation, almost like taking little glimpses of the future. These pods would be so cool to relax on a stopover but here in Germany they would be trashed and misused by drunks and addicts in no time, and would be dirty as feck. Most of the simple luggage lockers at the main station don't even work most of the time.

One of my favorite knitter is a German guy, he loves Japan also he comes here often. There’re beautiful castles and amazing Christmas markets there I sure wanted to visit. But it doesn’t sound good everything will be trashed by drunks etc. It sounds just like NY or Paris honestly. Paris is very dirty, been there many times. The public bathrooms at the airport in Paris was the worst I’ve seen of all places (urine and toilet papers on floor in every stall so bad and that’s airport I couldn’t believe it…) and I’ve visited many many countries and have lived in several also, it was so disgusting I couldn’t use them, I waited till I got to a hotel...

Japan is weird in how it embraces certain advancements and resists others. So you might encounter a hyper-advanced robotic vending machine or high speed train, but fax machines and floppy disks are still in wide spread use.

Awesome! Everything is so organized and clean. This is what happens when you foster a love for your country and reinforce that in the schools. You can see what happens when schools don't have janitors and Japanese children are taught to keep their schools clean themselves. No wonder they become adults who keep their country clean. Looks like this is what happens when you have politicians who actually care about their country. No wonder Japan has the 3rd highest economy in the world.
I think that is the most wonderful thing in the world for Japan to have something like this to be able when you're tired to be able to relax for a little while it's beautiful why can't other countries do the same and be civilized like that
