I'm sure you won't see this, but Leah, your intro just reminded me of my two pieces of Contortionist humor, both involve the contortionist I dated in middle school and highschool lol (he wore chain mail to school every day, and his brother was an escape artist, I'm still baffled by that family, they weren't from a "circus" family?) No one thought this was as funny as I did, but in 8th grade he did a contortionist act for the talent show? And during rehearsal he got into this pose with his legs crossed behind his head and walking on his hands, and he got all folded up but then when he tried to raise up on his hands he was like "Oops" and had to reverse and unfold himself and stood up and took a bunch of pencils out of his pocket... and then went back down and did it over again and walked on his hands and it was fun. But I thought the pencil thing was the funniest part, and actually talked him into doing it in the official show. Apparently I was the only one that found it funny...
*The second part of this joke involves middle school age humor, that should not be shared with middle schoolers, just a warning, that first part is much more appropriate, and is the main reason for me leaving the comment, the rest of this is just a joke about blow jobs. *
(The second one is that despite him being able to cross his legs, put them behind his head, and walk on his hands... he apparently hadn't ever asked himself that question that all boys will eventually ask themselves. And the only reason I knew this was because we went to school with a boy named BJ Self, and in 8th grade that was the funniest jokes ever? And I turned to him and said "BJ Self... can he?" Which was the entire joke. But he replied "No, he's not flexible enough." And I chuckled for a second before my jaw dropped, and he just confused, so I said "You're a contortionist... can you?" And his eyes went wide and he gaped at me for a minute and just said "I don't know... I never thought of it." Which cracked me up, and still does. Even if we were both 14 lol (15-20 years later I asked him this again, and he said yes, but it wasn't as fun as you'd expect))

LOTR comment as a way to divert fascists is kinda funny because LOTR has fashy associations in Italy if i remember correctly, Georgia Meloni went to a hobbit themed fashy youth camp.

10:20 seeing performers I'm like kinda into, I'm (I'm a young woman btw) like so meek about it, I like approach to tip after the show and like maybe say thank you or comment on a specific part of the act. Parasocial relationships are suffering so I don't like asserting myself, I'm acutely aware that I'm one of many many people they don't know at a show where they make sex jokes like
Idk that's probably not related to why older men would, but I feel like the setting of Ren faire and the regulars and friends who the performers know by name, that sort of thing, feels like performers are a little less approachable, and you're more immersed in the role of being an attendee who may or may not be dressed up and a little less self-insert
    Idk
39:00 I've been going to the AZ faire every year for most of a decade but only just saw a cirque de soleil show last week and it was almost whiplash to see such a structured act like a play and then they all line up to now and just...disappear. all of my experiences with theater are on such a small scale that it's like beyond my conception to not interact with the stars after a performance
I think for comedy, one of my favorite shows for being kid accessible but overall fun is Three Men And A Bunch of Drums, they make some very different jokes with signs and visual gags, so even though it's an inherently auditory performance they keep your attention on them.
Two of the super popular ones at AZ Ren faire are barely balanced and the angels (heroines in disguise!!!), both of whom I adore, and the washing well wenches always get a packed crowd
I love the angels a lot and the ultra sex positive style of their adult show made a huge impression on me as a like 18 year old, but barely balanced actually threads the wide net of not alienating particular audiences so I get to take everyone who attends the show with me to their performance

Her description on what circle du soleil people do is so dismissive! Made me want to not listen to it. Argh, pretentious much?

Yes, and it's even funnier coming from someone who works for ren faires. For a "clown" and performer, she wasn't amusing or charismatic in this podcast, either....
