One of my favorite things about Patsy was that if she liked you, she called you "Hoss." Patsy's early career and first record label really pushed her in the western direction of country and western. After she was able to get out of the contract, she was the first female country singer to adopt glamourous gowns and outfits and she liked furs and sophisticated attire. Patsy was a beautiful lady and a strong one. She learned that as a woman, she needed to make sure she was paid before she took the stage and was quoted as saying, no cash, no Cline. Promoters tried to rip off artists by not paying them after they had performed.
All I got big guy, is that some first-class artists are such perfectionists they seldom like what they record. Patsy was amazing!
Patsy was my Dad's favorite female singer...I remember hearing her voice in my house all the time...his favorite songs of hers were this one and Back in Baby's Arms.
In 1957 Patsy Cline was on a TV network talent search show, Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts, where she performed this song. I believe she won.
My sister performed as Patsy for a few years and I'll tell you, every audience told stories about how much they had been affected by the music this woman made. When you consider how short a time fate would decide she had for her career, it's amazing the legacy she left that is vibrant sixty years later.
Patsy designed that costume and her mother, Hilda Hensley, made it. Hilda was a seamstress.
My favorite line in the Patsy Cline movie is “People in hell wave ice water but that don’t mean they get it!”
My parents were musicians and had the opportunity to meet Patsy back in the day. They said she was a sweet, humble lady.
Patsy will never disappoint you.
one of the purest voices ever
She was truly a unique talent. Check out her song "She's got You"
Thank you for playing her music. She was a voice that I heard as a young person, kind of knew her story, but really didn’t appreciate till I’ve heard it older! She was great!
Your research comments and decides are always entertaining! Keep it up!
Owen Bradley was a genius as a producer, starting with Patsy and finishing with Mandy Barnett, and a ton of performers in between. He had an ear for talent and a knack for arranging, starting off as a session musician with his brother Harold
The reason Patsy didn't like many of these songs is because she was a traditional Country artist and they kept making her record pop or Country-light songs...
If you want to hear what Patsy enjoyed doing with her voice, check out Lovesick Blues...
Her best friend was Loretta Lynn, a sure enough country girl, that she took under her wing from Loretta’s start…they were strong, tough women working and becoming fabulously successful in a predominantly man’s world!
The way I heard it…she didn’t dislike the song “Crazy” as much as she disliked the way Willie sang it…lol…her producer told her to sing it the way she wanted…and as they say “ the rest is history”!!!
She wanted to be the female version of Hank Williams. She is one of mt favorite female singers!
The Grand Ol' Opry in Nashville was the Pinnacle of Making t back then. I think that may be where this was recorded? Costumes were an absolute MUST.
She had a lot more songs that she sang that many don’t react to. Check them out too! Lovesick Blues was good too 😊
I just love u!! The reaction limit for u is just endless!! I’m so excited to c u really get into the ‘70s-‘80s!! There r sooo many things for u to watch kiddo!!🙂
Scary that there was virtually no editing available back then. My Dad loved her music, as I do. He had a small record store back in the day before I was born. He also didn't think Elvis would make it LOL...That didn't age well. Peace, Love!!
I love that you like that. She broke boundaries by singing "like a man." And it was the country people that loved her and criticized too. Queen!
That's the music industry. The recording labels make the decisions for the singers as to what they sing.
There's no way not to love Patsy Cline. That was back in the day when singers had to actually have talent. I think she was performing at the Grand Ol' Opry in this video.
She sure made it look easy, right?!! Wonderful tribute, Young Sir, thank you! 🙏💕🇺🇸
My mom adored Patsy Cline. This was her favorite song by her, so it was a song I heard a lot while I was growing up.
I’ve heard from a few sources that Patsy really liked to sing uptempo songs and growl and yodel. There are several or more recordings of her doing Rockabilly music which is a blend of Country with Rock and Roll music. One that she did that comes to mind now is Ain’t No Wheels On This Ship. Oh and another, which has some bits of yodeling, is Lovesick Blues.
Patsy never disappoints!
This is the best video I've seen of this song performance! Kudos!
Back on the 40's, 50's, 60's, it was "country western" music. A lot of artists during that time wore more western themed clothes
The movie of Cline, Lynn were great. Lynn and Cline were friends. Lynn named one of her twins after Cline. I enjoy your channel. ✌
👍👍Awesome voice take way too early from us.😢 🖖❤
Video of country music legend Patsy Walker's appearance on the an American country music program "Town Hall Party" performing her song "Walking After Midnight".
I used to do this song for karaoke, it is EXTREMELY hard to match her vocal range!
Great reaction!❤❤❤ You are so right. Dying in a plane crash such a tragedy. Yes this is a pop/ country fusion imo. Surprising that she didnt like the songs the label asked her to do!!😮 Surprising that Dionne Warwick didnt particularly like the BeeGees song written for her, "Heartbreaker." But I heard it was her biggest hit that year & was her eighth #1 hit. Please react to more BeeGees Nights on Broadway, Love You Inside Out, or Alone for example. ❤❤❤
This is The Grand Old Opry, country music pinnacle. Live.
Love Patsy's music!!! Got my sub.
A lot of the platform back in those days with country singers was the Grand Ole Opry House...
She is singing that at the "Grand ole Opry"
CRAZY. Written by Willie Nelson.
Ooh her voice was like warm molasses❤
As Neil Diamond says, when you take the blues, you sing em out again.
Garth Brooks recorded a remake of this song. It was a very nice tribute to Patsy.
Don helms was a steel guitar player for Hank Williams Sr who was patsy favorite singer
Megan Joy does a great cover of this song on American Idol…probably on YT.
The Cowboy Junkies did a fantastic blues version of this song in the 90s. They did a lot of good stuff you might look into and were clearly influenced by the greats like Patsy and her peers.
Good choice!
Prior to this recording, Don Helms was the steel guitarist for Hank Williams until Hank's tragic death at the age of 29. You should go down the Hank Williams rabbit hole. In my opinion, Hank was the greatest American songwriter to ever live, and this is coming from a guy who loves The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Fats Domino, Ray Charles, Khalid, Juice WRLD, Dua Lipa, Ella Mai, and many others of every genre in every decade.
Peace
Dude...I like you! Old Bowie girl likes this reaction! She was not against the music. She was against the controllers. Truth.
Three Cigarettes In An Ashtray is another song that sounds different as well.
Back In Baby's Arms is a great song .
After reacting to ‘Sweet Dreams”, you should definitely check out ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’.
You need to check out she got you. Great song.
❤❤❤
There was a time in my life when I would go walking, in the fields, after midnight.
You want someone with a story? Checkout any song by Ren. Every song is completely different. Every one will say do hi ren first, but I'm thinking Hold On. Or him busking with Sam Tompkins, "earned it /mans world"
❤
It's more the arrangement heavy on the steel. If you listen to the 1961 version of Walkin After Midnight you'll think more pop again.
She loved the song A Poor Man's Roses which was re-recorded in the early 60's also so probably better to listen to the earlier version of Poor Man's too.
React to her "I Fall to Pieces"!
Nudie suits and cowboy hats were worn as part of the Country and Western motif.
Maybe the label pushed walkin after midnight and didn't push her favorite! Just a thought
Patsy was a hardcore country girl and what she liked were the twangy country songs. She had a wonderful singing voice and she did have the voice for popular music. Honestly ha she not capitulated and agreed to sing songs like "Crazy", "She's Got You" or "Walking After Midnight" she never would have achieved the fame she did except within the narrow confines of country music of the time. Interesting to note that none other than Willie Nelson wrote the song "Crazy"
SHE WAS SOOO GOOD. AS LONG AS SHE WAS AROUND THERE WAS NOOO REASON TO LISTEN TO OR BUY ANYON ELSES RECORDS. TWO ATTEMPTS WERE MADE ON HER LIFE. BEFORE SHE DEID.
Her mother made that outfit she's wearing.
I think Patsy din’t like them telling her what to sing😂
Watch the movie bro...if you want a crazy story, you'll get it with the movie!!!!
George Jones didn't like He Stopped Loving Her Today.
Popv( popular ) music was and is not the be all end all of music . And the Artist needs to express themselves to be fulfilled. It is unfortunate that some of the most intricate, and beautiful music in history fell on deaf ears .
Why are you ignoring one of her best songs "I Fall To Pieces"?
2:25 clothing and fashion used to do a much better job of beautifying even normal women. Today's fashion only serves the very few most physically gifted women.
I heard long ago that she actually did not care about singing, dont know if its true.
That is not true she preferred honky-tonk type stuff to ballads though in the beginning.
This version of the song is a little off - the music for the studio version fits the lyrics better.
She was country and wanted to be country, she didn't like the dang Ole pop songs they had her record
I know you like an artist more based on their story. Once you see the movie Sweet Dreams you will see that her married life wasn’t that pleasant. Her husband wasn’t that great
Yeah, his name was Dick and it fit.
And Patsy's mom said the movie was mostly untrue.
