    No auto- tune, no electronic beat box - just pure talent. Saw them a couple of times in '77. Great show!

      Yep, saw them a few times myself in Central Missouri. One show, on the last song, towards the end of the song, Pretty sure it was Carry On, the lights went do for a few moments and when they came back up the song was still playing but the band was gone. Great show!

    Real music, dude. I knew Robbie. He was a janitor in the building where I was working and came by to say goodbye because the band was headed out on tour. He created the electric violin. Play "Dust in the Wind" and you'll hear one of the best violin solos. Thank God he made it to our 50th high school reunion before he passed.

    Very talented group. Kirshner lost millions for years on this progressive rock band. It came down to this album to save the band. Kerry wrote this song and played for the band which finally paid off for Kishner Records. This band was so good musically that when they toured with Queen, the members of Queen who was the headliner would watch their performances.

  • @herbconner8066
    @herbconner8066 11 місяців тому +12

    It's even more amazing when you realize, Kerry wrote it the night before the last day of recording their 4th and last album on their contract. Showed it to the band the next day. They arranged it on the
    fly and recorded it on one take the third time through.

    BTW… “Carry On Wayward Son,” by Kansas, More Than A Feeling” by Boston, and “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen all came out during my sophomore year in H.S. In 1975-76. Yeah. That’s the kind of kick-ass music we got to listen to back in the day. Compare the sophistication, creativity, artistry, lyrics, and vocals to the stuff that passes for pop music these days, and, um, well… kids today, you have my sympathy. Throw in “Hotel California” by the Eagles, “Do You Feel Like I Do” by Peter Frampton, “Walk This Way” by Aerosmith, “I’m Not In Love” by 10cc, “Year of the Cat” by Al Stewart, “Love Hangover” by Diana Ross…. I could go on, but you get the idea. Sheesh… I feel sorry for kids today!

    There are two singers. Steve Walsh does the lead vocals on this song. Robbie Steinhardt the big Red haired ginger also sings and he has the super high voice that harmonizes so well with Steve. Robbie R.I.P. also plays tambourine and violin and on the song Dust in the Wind his musical talent is amazing. Thanks for sharing. Other Kansas songs worth hearing: 'Dust in the Wind' 'Point of Know Return' 'Closet Chronicles' 'The Wall' 'Lightnings Hand' 'Hopelessly Human' and so many, many more. Chris

    This song was one of the few that radio DJs usually wouldn't talk over at the beginning or ending, probably due to that amazing a capella opening, and the tight closure at the end. Overtalk was the bane of my existence when making mix-tapes! 😊
    I was 14 when this came out, just starting high school. My favourite bands were Boston, Chicago, The Eagles, the Steve Miller Band, Toto, Foreigner, and Queen. And with this song, Kansas became another top favourite! Looking back, it was an amazing musical era to grow up in. Hi. I am 60 yrs and I grew up by Lawrence Kansas, KU is there. Some of the members graduated from KU with music degrees. A lot the album art that they use, has a lot do with our Kansas history any the Indigenous tribes. I learned to play piano and Steve Walsh was my idol. It took 18 yrs to learn the play the songs along with Solos from from the Kansas Two for the. show love album. I would like you play Song For America. You are absolutely correct. we had the best music and we could order 12 albums for a penny Columbia House records. I was in 5th grade and picked out my 12 albums, they would send a new album every month and if you like it you keep. I fell in love with Chicago, 14 or 6 to 4. I can't image a current 5th grader being so into music.
    Our generation that grew up and the 60s 70 80 were very aware, that we were witnessing some of the greatest music.

    I went to this album's concert in 1977. One of the best concerts I ever went to. The entire album is awesome. Not one bad song.
