  • Do you want to be a specialist maker of fitted furniture / built-ins? You may already be a carpenter/joiner, or you may want to start afresh in this field from a different profession. You may be at college, or an ambitious DIY house renovator.
In this video I will give you an overview of the design, manufacture, spray painting and installation of a complicated fully fitted bedroom. The project involved bookcases, wardrobes, angles, shaker doors, a floating desk and angled floating shelf, lighting, and uneven flooring. I recorded every step of the process for your education.
You can find the full 7-part training series plus additional training content via this direct link:

I've watched most of your videos a few times each ,
You have already given away loads of tricks of the trade and detailed information, so I think this apprenticeship will be a valuable resource for anyone who wants to start up fitted furniture making.
Your work always looks great , you have done a great job getting your business to where it is now .

Hi Alastair, I have the ambition to build some fitted furniture in my house. I have been watching your videos and I will buy your 'apprenticeship' nearer the time. I have never bought from a UA-cam creator but I've always been very impressed by the way you explain things and the use of simple english without bluster or ego. This gives me confidence the pdfs/video will be worth the investment. I am currently building some carcasses and cabinets for workshop storage as a first project. If that goes well the sky is the limit. Many thanks

Thanks for this comment! I have made some enquiries with online training programs recently and been advised both that I should charge more and also that I shouldn't put so much effort into preparing the pre-recorded content, PDF, etc! My conscience has always compelled me to be thorough before asking for payment, and I don't think you will be disappointed with what you get.

Hi Alistair you have just taken a massive weight off my shoulders. I have just listened to your podcast with Rob Clevett. You mentioned a bit about designing as you go along I have always beat myself up for this approach believing that I should have the design set in stone from the outset. cheers

I've just recently found your channel. Excellent content and very easy to watch and listen to. Well done. I'm building my own house at the moment and planning over time of building and installing fitted furniture myself. I'm a sparks by trade and your videos have given me the confidence to go for it. I may even turn it into a side earner. Again congrats on a great channel

Saturday morning 1am, last year spent making and designing fine furniture. Love it but it doesn’t pay the bills. Been looking for something like this for a long time, will be making a payment soonest for the course. Ps living and working in Sheffield.

What’s the name of the special screw and drill that you showed for fixing cabinets? I also think Festool Domino for construction of cabinets is a waste of time. I usually just use 50mm screws for unit construction, they are covered by decorative panels and not visible on completion. Thanks 👍

Hi John it is a confirmat screw, size 2. You will find similar ones on some ikea furniture. I see it as a. mixture of a screw and dowel, with the advantages of both. The downside is you have to buy a quite expensive stepped drill bit to use it properly (the cheaper knock-offs blunt and break too easily). You can also direct screw with a decent self-cutting 3.5 gauge wood screw (I used to use the expensive Spax-M spearpoint MDF screws to avoid splitting the mdf, but lately i have found the fine gauge standard self-cutters do the job). Currently we use these KTX brand ones: www.blum.org.uk/product-detail/All/KTX35050?proddesc=KTX-LOCKING-DR-SCR-3.5x050-YW-x200&description=ktx

Hi, how do you present the proposed units to the customer before you install? Ie do you have CAD?

    • @Alastair_Freebird

Hi yes we use sketchup and aim to produce a fairly accurate 3D design on first visit to customer. See for example the latest video on my channel.
