STOP Streaming At 1080P! There's a BETTER Resolution!
Вставка

- Twitch caps you at a 6000bitrate when you stream, which just isn't enough for 1080P60. So the best choice is to lower your resolution! But what do you pick? 936P60 @ 6000bitrate will be sharp enough to look amazing, without as much compression and less taxing on your pc!

Highly interesting argument for 936p, not 720p. After digging around true 16:9, I was amazed about the limited video encoder, divisible by 8. Hopefully more people catch your video and implement the change to their stream. Thank you!
When was 720p ever a valid option if you want high quality content. Its always been 900 minimum if you needed better performance.
Man I love this dude. Hope he is ok. I see no video been uploaded for 6 month. But I wanna say, this dude helped me set up my twitch for sure :)
For me I always use 864p it's the best resolution all around because it's divisible by both 8 & 16 and it's very easy for your PC to encode and you still get that crystal clear look.
What bitrate do you use for that?
5:35 The same thing happens to 936p.
The divisible by 8 is great for the downscaling filters (Lanczos, Bicubic etc.) but when it comes to encoding the bitstream it has to be divisible by 16 since 16x16 is the macroblock-size of h.264, the codec used when streaming to Twitch.
Neither 1080 nor 936 is evenly divisible by 16, hence the codec is forced to create an empty row of 1920x8 or 1664x8 pixels outside the frame to maintain macroblock integrity. This inefficiency is however extremely low, less than 1 kilobit/frame, since encoders are programmed not to spend bits on pixels padded outside the frame.
864p would be next best then I assume?
@@MysteGD Yes, but like I wrote in the comment, the inefficiency ir really really low, so it shouldnt be a deciding factor when schoosing resolution.
for 1664x936 what would u say is the best option? Lanczos (Sharpened sacling, 32 samples) or Bicubic (Sharpened scaling, 16 samples)
@@NextGeneration_ Its a matter of taste. Lanczos is technically slightly more accurate, but tends to oversharpen and leaves more ringing artifacts around edges. Bicubic usually looks more natural since it doesnt sharpen as hard. There is a reason Bicubic is the default scaler in Photoshop. However for some content, even Bilinear can be the best option since it produces absolutely zero artifacts, but the image will be a lot softer. Do recordings with each and pick the one you prefer. 🙂

Thanks , been helping my wife fix her stream and this video is everything I needed to know.
Awesome vid! Very informative! And also you were my first vid to pop up when I search up 936. So congrats and keep up the good work!!
This is good information. You should have a larger exposure on this platform.
Looks like I was doing something right then, I recently decided to move from 1080p to 864p and I've noticed a difference both on my performance in game and stream quality. Decided to look around at others views on 1080p and found this, 864 is the previous step behind 936p in true 16:9 resolutions, I might try 936p and see if it's much different :D
have you tried switching to 936p from 864p and what differences have you found out?
@@paparoach007 ‼️‼️‼️ I need to know as well lol
16:9 isnt a resolution its an aspect ratio.
I made this change and my stream looked a lot better. As a brand new content creator (at least trying to be lol) this definitely helped. Appreciate it!
The sad part is on youtube you can stream on 4k but on twitch they have bandwitch issues
this deserves so much more attention! nice vid man
Great stuff. Wish you the best at your streams. Really smart solution.
Yup, just did this. Thanks again. He answers your questions as well too fam.
Downscaling reduce quality as well.
Best thing is to run the game and have the canvas size in OBS in the same resolution as your streaming resolution.
I've tested this by having the game and canvas in 1440p and downscale it to 1080.
It makes the video more "blury".
UA-cam actually let you stream up to 51000 Kbps (51 Mbit)
Even though it let's you stream up to 51Mbit, it compresses it down to about 4500kbps and VP9
very good video broski! very informative and to the point
Damn...thank you for this. 💪
Im using 936p now and my stream is much more clearer than 1080p with a few pixels.
What's your bitrate ?
what's the width and heigh for 936p video like we have 1920*1080 and 1280*720, what should be the resolution for 936p? 936*?
@@theSilentDude96 1664x936
I'm good with analogies, okay so picture a loose slow tsunami wave computer setup hitting "Twitch's 1080p-ish garden hose", You can only push a little bit of your tsunami wave of a computer setup through the garden hose, But if you compress & subvert your tsunami wave below Twitch's 1080p, Your impact is going to have SPEED, VIOLENCE AND MOMENTUM! Spoken like the 2x champ himself the Doc.😁
900p60 master race! 936p counts lol. Cool vid :)
What about facebook gaming? Can I do the same setting?
Danny and Taylor doing the Vertical xD
I have a question: if the average 16:9 viewer sees the stream reduced at 1340x754 is 1408x792 a viable resolution just next to 720p and slightly bigger than this resolution so they should it crisp but it should encode better and easier?
Honestly.. I set it to bilinear in OBS and it actually looks better than bicubic and lanczos. Because technically those are utilized as upscalers. Bilinear is a proper downscaler. Seems to look better on twitch at 1080p.
Yeah good video, buut rescaling everything I have to accommodate that isn’t going to happen. I just have way too much and I spent too much time designing it for 1080p 😢
You can leave the base/canvas resolution at 1080p and then let the output/scaled resolution be 936p. This way obs does the scaling for you rather than having to redesign everything. Just set the scaler to lanczos for the best quality
@@P1xelPerfect This is great information! I will get to it when I want to stream higher quality games! Thank you thank you!

You deserve more subs bro, keep it going 🐢👌🏻
@p1xelperfect Im playing on a 1440p monitor and resolution setting on ps5 also. Im going to be using hd60x capture card. Using streamlabs obs and canvas base at 1440p. (Im a affiliate on twitch so im sure wont be able to do 1080p) being its 1440p native (base) should i rescale at 864p (60fps of course) or what resolution? (I see people saying 864 is great because of 1440p base) My next question is at what bitrate to have a crisp stream and also not too much for cellular phone viewers but not low to where pc and wifi watchers lose crispness…?
i have a problem where my stream doesnt allow for me to go lower than 1080p which obstructs those using data to watch the stream any fix?
Is 1080p 30fps enough for streaming games?
So obvious once you pointed it out, thank you!
Problem with this for those of us streaming on UA-cam last I checked it forces the viewer to watch a 720p stream
Thats correct, they dont support weird formats. however the trade off is they now support AV1 encoding AND you can do 1440p60 that look INCREDIBLE comparatively
for 1664x936 6000 bitrate... what would u say is the best option? Lanczos (Sharpened sacling, 32 samples) or Bicubic (Sharpened scaling, 16 samples)
32
People have been talking about 864p as well, what's your thoughts on that when compared to 936 as an affiliate
i used to stream at 900p, because 1080 was too high and 720 too low imo, but i'll try this.
one issue for me:
i play at 1440p and i Stream + record at the same time. So I have to set the scaled resolution, in the Video Tab to 1440p (just like my Canvas).
But in the Streaming Tab i have to rescale the Resolution to 936p.
So that i basically record at native Resolution 1440p and Stream at 936p at the same time.
The Issue is that in the streaming tab, there is no Filter (Lanzcos) to set.
Actually any cpu can encode past 'slow' preset IF and only IF they set ref=1-2 in the x264 options (seperated by space)
This also reduces that "lag" feeling you get when streaming+gaming on one PC. Cheers!
Another Excellent Video! Do you know anything about multistreaming? It doesn't look like you've made a video about that... would love one if you have any expertise there. Thanks 🙏💗
W video man thank you!
Actually 8k is more than enough bitrate for 1080p 60fps, you just have to tweak the x264 encoder a little.
@@poorchris well, for starters, x264 has a line for options where you can input parameters and teak them. None of these so called x264 gurus talk about that, they don't even know what it's for. Just like NVENC you can set psycho-visual effect and the good thing about x264 is that you can set different values for it. That's just one option, keep in mind there are dozens of parameters you can adjust, but only a handful will improve the stream quality while keeping the CPU usage the same.
I never claimed to be a “guru” of x264. If you want someone to goes heavily in depth about custom x264 options, go watch EposVox. He is incredibly knowledgeable. For most streaming situations you will see a negligible quality change, that in the long run your viewers will not notice and could be solved if Twitch allowed a higher bitrate.
@@P1xelPerfect wrong, I've seen eposvox "secret sauce" video and he failed to go deeper into how rate control affects quality and other options such as motion estimation parameters and quantizer. He was on the right track, but didn't quite get it right. I like eposvox, but his x264 knowledge is very little, considering he was using ffmpeg library syntax.
@@P1xelPerfect I mean, I can tweak the VERYFAST preset to look better than the default MEDIUM by adjusting rate control, GOP, deblock, and motion estimation. @P1xelPerfect just understand that x264 presets are not optimized for 60fps live streaming.
You still recommend this in 2022? Maybe I will try to upgrade to 936p because I'm streaming using 720p-30fps @3k bitrate on facebook gaming.
LOL glad I'm not the only one who gets horizontal and vertical confused :")
This is awesome! Will it work optimally on UA-cam as well?
I am using and Elgato HD 60s+ capture card and my 2nd streaming computer is an M1 Mac Mini. My gaming PC is running a GeForce 3070 ti card. What settings do you recommend (and encoding too) Thanks in advance!
Ill be honest with you, i have very little knowledge of how well macs encode for streams! That might have to be something you noodle around with and report back to me haha
Just a quick question what do you stream on, like OBS/Twitch studio etc. I'm only asking because I've just started streaming and I use Nvidia and don't have that resolution available.
enter manually in the field 1664x936
I stream on twitch. For apex streaming do you recommend going 936p60 or 720p60 at 6000 bitrate?
It really depends on your system set up but I’d say try for 936p first and if it doesn’t work then go down to 720!
I stream on the Xbox series X and when I export to UA-cam it's 1080p at 30 frames how do I get it to 60 frames
dont forget about panel quality cuz some panel are crap even tf they have dense pixels like cheap new 4k tvs and montiors will look blurry regarles the quality
Should I stream at 720p or 810p I use 2800 bitrate and use 48 fps. This is as much as my internet can handle.
looks at video settings, see's 1080p@60 in UA-cam, closes video
j/k
im watching a friend stream his is at 720p and auto they both dont work im still loading watching a lil bit how do fix that issue ?
Is 4.5 - 5 mbps upload speed good enough for 936p streaming?
I just tested this on my stream and it made things worse. I screen shot the same image and compared. At 936p the letters were rougher and blended together. At 1080p the letters were shaper and easily distinguished.
Text and slower paced games (MOBAs, RTS, etc.) will look sharper at 1080p because they are easier to encode since more elements on the screen are static or slower. However when you start playing faster paced games such as shooters or games with a more active camera, that's when you get loss of detail and you start seeing the pixilation/blocking/blurring due to compression. You lose details in things such as grass, trees, dark environments, etc. because there isn't enough bandwidth (6000kbps) to save those details at high speeds at 1080p. That's where 936p comes in. It's a good amount of pixels less so it's easier to encode and preserve the details through that 6000kbps cap. Sure text and static elements don't look as clean (still good enough though) but when the gameplay is what most people want to see, it's best to have the detail saved in that rather than stuff less focused on.
@@SinnedGameFreak Hey thanks for this response. Gotta try it
This is a great answer. Also! I’ve recently found out that anyone can stream at 8000 bitrate, which unfortunately makes some of the data in this video outdated BUT that’s my job so now I have a new video to make lol
If you are gaming at a native res of 2950x1440, does that matter? I guess does your game/windows native resolution matter?
What about 720p 120fps streaming?

Also, can you stream 9:16 to twitch ?
So would you use Downscale Filter?
This was extremely helpful
So would I need to do this if I'm streaming on UA-cam? It makes perfect sense for Twitch but I'm not sure the limits of UA-cam.
So from what I know and remember, UA-cam doesn’t support inbetween resolutions. So it would downscale you to 720p. Plus UA-cam also supports 9000 bitrate which will look better so I’d say 1080p60 @ 9000 bitrate and then try for the best encoder settings which if you need to know for your set up, I made a video on!
@@P1xelPerfect Thanks man. I appreciate the quick response. Watching your audio video now then I'll move on to the encoder one. Thanks for making these videos!

Hidden OBS Setting For Best Quality video
If I wanted to go about downloading my past 936p streams and edit/upload them to UA-cam, is there a way to make the quality as best as possible?
Typically what I recommend is create a project that is in 1080p, import your 936p stream and scale it to 1080p canvas. Then add a SLIGHT sharpen filter to make up for some softness and render it off after whatever edits you want to add in. Hope this helps!

8K*
@P1xelPerfect so I should change it to 8k now because of the new update. is 936 p still better then 1080 even with the more bitrate now
Twitch doesn't cap at 6000kbps, a ton of partners run at 8000.
I don't stream to Twitch. I stream to my church website, UA-cam, and Facebook. I'm just learning about OBS. I'm using an old version of Wirecast, Wirecast 7, and wanting to update my encoder and start using OBS. Does using 936p work better for these platforms than 1080p?
Im not sure what Facebooks bandwidth cap is. So, out of the gate Id say for UA-cam streaming if you have access to 9000 bitrate and a BEAST encoder such as Nvenc MAX or X264 Slow, then Id say go for it. I always suggest lower just because a lot of rigs cant handle max encoding power, you really have to know your set up to make the call.
Thank you.
Very informative, I’ve actually recently made the decision to drop my res to 720p for my streams until I join the dual PC gang. Just with everything I’m trying to do with lioran board if I even try 900p with nvenc quality I constantly get encoder overload when playing Cold War:( fingers crossed for a 3060 next week 🤞🏽🤞🏽
Been streaming for a while on 2 PC's and I'm still having pixelating issues... I think what's explained in this videos is the problem, that 1080p needs more bitrate capacity to stream at real 1080p quality. Or at least that's what I undertood.
i have 3060, single pc... still get pixilation using nvec at 900. its overclocked 165mhz and my CPU is hella OC'd too. basically NEED 2 PC's to play fast paced shooters stugger/lag/and blur free. sorry.
