    Interesting that you made the point about chroma subsampling, but didn't mention the need to increase the shutter speed to reduce motion blur if action is occurring.

    We don't have one at the moment but we'll seriously consider the idea as a request. In the meantime, B&H offers still-photography versions of the Westcott green screen lighting kit featured in the video: bhphotovideo{dot}com/c/search?Ntt=Westcott+Illusions+PHOTO+Green+Screen+Kit&N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=ma&Top+Nav-Search=. Thanks for watching.

    Hello, How do I tell what my cam's chroma subsampling is? My cam is a Nikon Coolpix S7000 digital cam, I haven't found the ratio for it despite some research. Would this be okay for green screening or should I get a better one? On a tight budget for this project.

    The Behr color called 'gamma sector green' used to be the exact color of a green screen but it has been a long time since my friends bought it for their wall. I think it was in the kids paint section (Disney?). If it is still available buy it in Latex and flat and it works perfectly on your wall as a green screen. But even flat it is still more reflective than a cloth so you might get green reflecting back on your subject if you get them too close to it which makes it hard to key them out.

    Many thanks for this - does BandH have any videos on green screen for still photography? I'm guessing the basics are the same (screen, lighting etc) but what about the software - I know I can do this easily in Photoshop but I'm sure I've seen specialised software too. Any ideas?

    One more question. :) When you are editing the videos do you the keying for all the material and after that cut it or do you do the cutting first and key it afterwards?

    • @BandH
      @BandH  9 років тому

      If I am following the question correctly I would recommend doing a rough cut of the piece first and then doing the key work. If you need to see the keyed backgrounds to edit then you can do a rough key in order to do the rough cut and then do the clean up afterward.

    That's why "plasters"/band-aids are blue. There supposedly no blue foods that exist, so if by chance you drop the plaster in to a dish. You can find the plaster easier to see in your dish/plate. Is there a specific wavelength within the green range?

    I think everyone gets the concept of even lighting, but to achieve this is easier said than done. It would be difficulty to accomplish even lighting with the lights that are featured in this video. You will definitely need to overcompensate by making adjustments to the camera or in the chroma key editor.

    hi, what do you mean by shooting in 422? i have a Nikon D3300 and a Sony HVR-A1U... will either of these work for video?

    • @BandH
      @BandH  8 років тому

      4:2:2 refers to color subsampling. This is used to cut down on information in a frame. It reduces the bandwidth of video by skipping the color information on some pixels, depending on the level of sub-sampling. A luminance value (brightness/darkness ratio) is still recorded for every pixel. A 4:2:0 image, which is the chroma sampling method used in AVCHD and XD CAM EX, only changes color every fourth pixel. Where 4:2:2 sub-sampling changes color every other pixel. 4:4:4 color sampling retains all color information. Video from the Nikon D3300 could easialy be used for green screen work. As the Sony HVR-A1U is recording to Mini DV tape you would have to digitize the footage so that it could be used with the green screen software. *Andrea

    • @BandH
      @BandH  4 роки тому

      We are not aware of any specific settings to use within the camera. The key really is to make sure you have nice even light on the green screen with minimum shadows. That is the key to setting up a green screen for recording. The lighting more so than any setting.
      Thanks!

    can the key light be on the left side if i put the hair light is on the left too?

    • @BandH
      @BandH  9 років тому

      As long as the hair light does not clip the hair too much and both of those lights don't bleed into the green screen since it needs its own exposure you shouldn't have any problem with that lighting setup. Same side is preferred to avoid cross lighting when the talent turns their head to the side, especially during a standard interview. |Heather S|

    I am just starting to use a green screen, and all I want to do is use a simple static image for a cool background for my videos. I am having problems when editing the footage, I was told it is beacuse of lighting. Can someone please help and give advice on what I can do about this and yes I'm on a tight budget. I use Adobe CC to edit

    • @BandH
      @BandH  8 років тому

      +Simon Gilmore First the green screen backdrop needs to be very taut to whatever support it is being hung from/attached to. Any wrinkle in the surface can affect the overlay in post. Secondly, it would need to evenly lit. Any variation in color will affect the end result. This usually means lighting the backdrop to maintain an even color tone throughout, then separately lighting the person or people in the video in the manner that best suits the overlaid background you would be adding. If you would like specific information regarding what kind of lighting to use, I would recommend emailing askbh@bhphoto.com. Let us know the size of background needing to be lit, the size of they space you would be working within, as well as your budget. *Andrea

      If you want to produce broadcast quality videos then yes. You should use a proper background support, a quality green screen, professional lights that provide a very specific colour temperature without flicker and a professional camera. $20,000 will get you started. If your viewer will accept crap then by all means go with a DIY model and have a good time.

      If there is sufficient light in the open space that will light the green screen evenly, chances are you that would not need to add any light. However, it's best to come prepared with light for the background in case the ambient lighting conditions change.
