3 months after impact for me. Sub-symptom exercise, especially the stationary bike, made a huge difference. I’m now easing into resistance training but still feel some tension/pressure in my head when lifting-hoping it fades over time. Also couldn’t tolerate coffee until recently. My hack: starting with decaf, gradually adding caffeine and walking 3-6 miles right after. It’s weird but walking somehow gives my head great sensations!
Dear Dr.Heisig I have been watching your video. Thanks for the information that you put out. I do appreciate it. I got concussion from boxing sparring about 2 weeks ago. Even though symptoms got better, I still have weird sensation on left side of my head. I feel as if someone put on a rock on my head. I am waiting out to get better. However , I am really scared. Concerns like developing cte or everlasting sensation in my brain is killing me. Any advice for me doc ? Feeling anxious 😟 and worried.
Thank you for your message, and I’m sorry to hear about your concussion-it’s completely normal to feel anxious and worried during recovery. While your symptoms are improving, the lingering sensation you’re describing can be part of the healing process, but it’s important to monitor it closely. It’s understandable to be concerned about long-term effects like CTE, but the good news is that CTE is associated with repeated, severe head trauma over many years. A single concussion, even from sparring, is not likely to lead to that outcome. If the weird sensation or your anxiety persists, I’d recommend getting evaluated by a concussion specialist for reassurance and guidance. I also offer Concussion Recovery Consults to help you navigate recovery and address your specific concerns: www.drheisig.com/appointments. You’re already on the right track by seeking information and taking your recovery seriously. Wishing you a smooth recovery-don’t hesitate to reach out if you need further support!
My LH and FSH hormones, specifically, are out of whack. No testosterone. 2 week 5 day cycle sounded the alarm after the concussion. All other labs…perfect. No thyroid issue and all OB exams are clear from issue, she suggested neuro. Me too. HRV issues after concussion. MRI no contrast was clear from neuro which was the fastest doctors appointment of my life. Lmao. The next doctor tried treating with amitriptyline and it amplified everything. Sent my heart rate through the roof. I’m 11 MO in and it feels like I’m in a custody battle with doctors. The symptoms are beyond my understanding and I am at my limits. I haven’t stopped teaching and coaching, but I feel like I’m slowly getting drawn to a stop and it’s coming soon. Any advice to make doctors listen to you? I look beyond healthy, but I am not who I have been…ever. 🧡
Hi there! It sounds like you’ve been through so much, and I get how exhausting it is to feel unheard while managing these symptoms. Concussions can disrupt hormones, HRV, and more-you're not alone in this! I’d recommend checking out my Concussion Reset program, where you'll learn self-guided care strategies and how to advocate for yourself with doctors (each Milestone covers the ins and outs of concussion/PCS, and ends with which specialist to reach out to for each problem). If you’d like personalized support, consider booking a Concussion Intro Call so we can create a clear plan for moving forward. You’ve got this!
@ Thank you SO much!! Education on PCS needs to gain more traction because had I known the long term consequences, I may have done a lot differently. Thank you for spreading awareness. Keep it up! 💙
