This is the best and most informative review of the G100 on UA-cam. Too few reviewers gave it more than a very fast, and fairly shallow look. I got more good data from your one review than I got from the rest of them combined.
@@TheRealRichardWong I just returned to this video because I ordered the G100 at the same time as I ordered the GH5 M2. I figured the small camera would work well with the 14-42mm power zoom which I already own, and it will be perfect for those times when I need to look like a tourist in places that don't permit, or require a permit for what they call professional cameras. Sydney Opera House is one of those places. I have been told to stop filming there one day, yet they ignore tourists with phones and point and shoots. The pyramids outside Mexico City also gave me that problem. The G100 will be ideal for places like that. Enough features to be useful, but inconspicuous enough to generally avoid the eyes of officials and security guards. It should work well with the two Panny stabilized power zooms for video, I have a wide conversion lens to add to the 14-42, and photographs could go wide with the Oly 17mm 1.8 and the Laowa 7.5mm f2. All small lenses that don't attract attention. Looking at you review after a couple of years, I am reminded of what a fantastic job you did on this review. You always put a lot of effort in and plenty of people very much appreciate that, but this G100 review is particularly finely crafted. You need to be reminded that even after all this time, there are people like me who need this information and are appreciating the fact that this still is the best G100 review on the internet. Thank you. I wonder, was this just a review unit, or do you own the G100, and if so, what are your longer term thoughts on the camera?
Your review of G100 performance is fair enough unlike some other reviewer. This is not perfect camera for all of your purpose, of course; just like other camera out there. Very compact 4/3 size yet quite powerful features in it and you can change the lens to suit your certain purpose for the best result of your videography or photography works. Good job, bro
I have the GX85 and the G7, which I love and have used a lot. I bought the G100 because it's a lot smaller and more portable than the G7 and easier to take along for travel. It also has a bigger sensor and its tech is several years newer than the G7. I wish that the GX85 had a mic jack. That would have made the camera truly awesome
Hi Richard, do u know if the 1/50 sync speed goes up to 1/500 when u use trigger remote ? It seems like people have different oppinions and I think that u are the best person to ask. Thanks in advance !
FANTASTIC Video Richard! 👏🏻 I'm seriously considering this camera... I also vlog with the G85 but much prefer the 20mp sensor from my G9 but thats far too big for vlogging... Such a shame about the lack of IBIS! (P.s. You should link to the camera 🎥)
hey Ben! Thanks !!! I vlog with G85 too! (not that much vlogging these days), love the small size and weight, picture quality + Dual I.S.!! G100 is almost the perfect upgrade replacement, if only it has IBIS!
dear Mr. Wong, I have a serious question, about getting a camera. I have to in my mind, the Panasonic G100d or the Panasonic Gx7. I don't shoot videos. My main genre is Street. I use to shoot with olympus em10 mark ii and olympus Em5 mark ii. I ask you for advice which Of the two Panasonic should I get
@@MichaelRichards983.I honestly feel it is not a bad entry level compact vlogging camera. The biggest downside is 4k crop as I mentioned in my review but if you shoot in 1080p it works very well. The price is cheaper than a g95 and it's overall better vlogging camera than the g95
Do you think this would make for a good livestreaming camera? Panasonic has traditionally been pretty strong in 1080p60 HDMI but you have to get creative with a continuous power source. Is there one for this style battery?
Man i just asked support about this on the g100 and they claim that the camera gets some type of low charge while connected via usb to Lumix Webcam Software, so im gonna have to believe them till i find the moment to actually test it, im gonna let u know
Hey Richard! Finally decided to get this :) Do you use default audio settings or do you adjust to -12 DB? (I always go -10/-12db when using G85 and rode mic) Thanks again!
Heya ben!! Oh exciting!! I was mostly recording using the built-in mic actually because it's so good. But when using external mic yes I set to -12db I think!!! Are you going to do a video about it as well!!
Hi Richard, Quick question for you: I am getting married in 2 months and my family and I, have the G9, the G95 and the G100.....Based on your tests and knowledge of autofocus, which one should I use to shoot videos for that wedding? Thanks!!!
in my other test, it was in a small room and i used two speakers to play some loud noise and music, i was trying to see how the audio would be like under challenging condition
The G85 is outdated. It has a worse sensor and lousy color science compared to the G100. It also doesn't film in V-log for color grading like the G100 (although, there is an unofficial hack for the G85).
Barry Maskell A knee jerk reaction? You don’t seem to realise that the camera would have entered early development 18 months to two years ago. At the time the ZV1 was released the G100 would already be in the hands of the factory, with tooling and production design at an advanced stage. The Sony would have had a similar development time frame, and almost certainly neither company knew what the other was doing. It is mostly coincidence that they both enter the market so close to each other. No reactions from either side, knee jerk or otherwise. However, the execs and engineers at Panasonic would have watched the Sony launch with alarm. They would no doubt be aware of what they should have, or could have done to gazump the Sony, but didn’t, and by that time it was too late to make any changes and they just had to keep going with what they had.
Nice review as always. Another camera with DFD Ok nicer sound options although no headphone jack But tracking focus worthless as in all Panasonic cameras I have several - Sad Panasonic will be out of camera business in few years with no PDAF No Ibis so heavy crop 10min 4K limit Folks better get the Sony zv1
Agreed! Such a shame. I consider myself somewhat of a Panasonic fanboy. I love the MFT system for having the option to mount small and light lenses (which matter more than shaving off a few mm offa a camera body and limit it's ergonomics and feature set). I've a bit of a history with Panasonic cameras: GH2, G7, GH4, GX80, G80, G9, GH5, GX9... and now what does our future hold? It's looking grim. The GH6 better be the MFT equivalent of what the Canon R5 is for fullframe... even Olympus is giving you a more usable camera with the E-M1 Mark III. I was hoping the LX100 Mark II would be a Canon G7 X/Sony RX100 killer, but it was far from it. Sold my G7 X Mark III which also was disappointing and now have the Sony ZV-1. I like my GH5/G9 etc just fine when the mission is to capture the best footage possible. When I just want something quick and casual, I'll grab my smartphone... when I want something in-between... now the Sony is my go-to choice. They really keep on shooting themselves in the foot. What's wrong with them? How can you target vloggers with a camera that has got no sensor stabilization, that still relies on unreliable DfD contrast based AI autofocus system, that has proven to lack behind the likes of Sony, Canon and Olympus. That has crops in the shooting modes making it a little more challenging to go wide and bright. So it has a front-facing screen? Big deal? Not targeted towards vloggers other cameras have too? It has special microphone pickup patterns? Well great. Ok, and now I'm outside riding a OneWheel, how is it going to deal with wind noise? Probably still the best way to go is a shotgun mic anyways. I can't monitor any of the audio, because there's no headphone jack. This thing... is just trying to cash in on some sort of vlogger's hype? But only uses buzzwords, not actually providing a solution for said target audience. I hate to see Panasonic bum like this. They need to get their act together! All they have to do is ask people who actually use cameras! Not come up with their own ideas of what people should use, because clearly, that isn't working.
I have all panasonic cams and i am very happy with the af. I dont know what you guys do with your camera. I guess you have no clue about af settings and always use kit lenses.
