We could save money by including "budget autofocus" but still charging for our best autofocus. Wouldn't the Cripple Hammer wreck our factory though? Boss you have to think positively. This to me is just the spiritual successor to the gm5. I was able to find one for around 150 dollars nearly brand new and for the price it is difficult to beat for sure.
It tragic to hear the Olympus news today. I bought an E-M1 Mark III for hiking, (I upgraded from the E-M5 Mark III as the base plate is questionable). Having used a GH5 previously I think the E-M1 Mk 3 is a brilliant camera for vlogging. No-one apart from Camera Conspiracies is talking about it. IBIS, autofocus, dust proof, decent battery, USBc charging, not too heavy. Pair it with the Oly 9-18 and you've got a great set up. It is such a shame they are selling it off as in my opinion it is the best vlogging camera out there at the moment. Stay cool.
Thank you for this review (it's 2022 now 😝) as I'm considering picking up a used G100. Did you guys ever try it again after the firmware updates? I see in other reviews that the face AF works really well. I love the old GM1 and have taken amazing photos with it so I'm imagining that this G100 is a successor to that GM line. So maybe it's not a vlogging camera but a hybrid camera for daily use? Maybe Panasonic marketed this camera wrongly? Anyways, thank you guys for all of your hard work ❤️
Please Chris don't stop making I think you and Jordan are great for the company continue making videos on cameras I really enjoy you immensely my friend 🌞🌞🌞
The g7 is currently 450 and seems like a better choice so I think they need to go back to the drawing board. With Olympus signing off I wonder if MFT survives.
I know, I know, everyone's complaining about the stabilization. But if I ONLY want to do sit-down videos and take pics, would this still be a good choice? 🥺
Strange. I just watched Kai W's review and his internal audio capture was a thousand times better than what I heard here. Not that tinny, either. I don't know if he changed any settings. But, the difference between the two reviews is night and day. There were a few times where you stood several feet away from the camera, and from what I've seen of vlogging that's not that common. Given that this is still a pre-release version of the G100, and the difference between yours and Kai's review, I am still on the fence.
Have to say DPReview missed the mark on the G100. Who's the audience? M43 users who want a compact hybrid. I have a GX9 with a solid range of Lumix-Leica primes -- this is a substantial upgrade in the same sized package and much better tech -- plus, a flip-out screen, mic port and better video features. It also beats the Sony ZV-1 IMO -- infinite lens options, UHS-1 card, bigger sensor, built-in flash, better viewfinder, better LCD, better ISO, 4K mode, a whole stack of photo features, etc., etc. Yet, another underrated Panasonic camera.
7:34 "there's no way to monitor audio" There are adapters that split the audio out of an HDMI port so you could monitor it that way if the HDMI output is active while recording. I have some adapters that I use for exactly that purpose with other cameras.
I have zero interest in Vlogging. I bought this as a lightweight, travel camera to use with my Oly 45mm and Lumix 20mm. Love the fully articulated screen and overall beautiful design.
Guys wait, i think we are looking at this camera wrong. This a USD700.00 camera with a great 20mp censor for photography along with a great EVF to along with that. Forget 4k, it has gorgeous panasonic 1080p video shooting up to 120 fps with the option of using VLOG. I know the camera is missing IBIS and the 4k crop makes it unusable but considering the features I just mentioned I cant think of a better value camera in MFT or in any other system. I am open to your thoughts....
🙋🏻♀️ Help! I put the camera on a tripod and I was doing talking head. But the image is moving! Like being handheld. Why? I am a Canon DSLR user, so I am really confused. Is it some kind of image stabilization? Or is it “destabilization”? Because the image is moving (following me) while the camera is not.
Looking at this as the low end G-Camera or as a successor to the GM5 this camera has a lot of nice things. Better viewfinder, better flippyfloppy screen, 20 mpix, 4K photo modes... etc. People have complained about the price of the GM5 as well. I got mine for 320 Euro. Btw: Does vlogging really mean you are not allowed to put the camera any further away from your face than the length of your arm? What happens if you do so? Are you going to be shot by the big Yutuboo? Thx for making the vid.
Does the surround audio records all mics separately? It uses beamforming so it doesn't exactly chooses the mic but processes all the inputs from all the mics - and that could be done in post.
Over the last year I have been thinking about what I think should be recognized as one of the important emerging markets for video-capable ILC cameras: The "Cine - Student" market. If you are going to make cinema the focus of your future, what is your best option? I would say that as of "yesterday" it was CLEARLY either a Panasonic G7 or a GH4 with V-LogL upgrade. Either has the controls needed to cover what a student will need to for "projects and assignments" (all the major controls that a cinema course will likely cover, and operating in ways that reflect the way the course could be laid out), and can give "Pro-quality" results up to UHD for a portfolio. I think the G100 is clearly aimed at replacing the G7 and maintaining a leadership position in this market. How important is this market? One thing I have realized is that "you can't really do much in video on your own". Still photography can be done by a solo photographer. Realistically, there is not much you can do that way in cinema. You TWO are an example of that. So are the Northrups. Most of the other successful photo channels also work with two or more people. So how do you hook up with other people you will want to work with? Mainly in school. That is where you will be able to see who is worth working with. So "cine-school" is the future and the cameras that dominate there will win the future, and yes, I think that this is where the G-100 can shine.
Panasonic seems really confused these days, especially on a conceptual level. Their last good camera was probably the G9? I moved over to Fuji and haven’t looked back, but am pretty surprised to see a lot of the same issues still there wrapped in a different package. Having said that I’ve always liked the super natural look of their image and the color science; it’s not film-like but there’s a “being there” sort of feel to it.
It's a pity to have presented the G100 for only a V logging camera. It can take great pictures with prime lens like the 15mm, 20mm, or 42.5mm, it has the same sensor that the G9. You can keep it in your pocket. I wish I could find one in France at a decent price to use it with my small lenses and keep zooms on my G90.
Yep. I just got one refurbished for $399 with the kit lens, it's pretty much brand new. Canon is the only one who sells an interchangeable lens mirrorless camera for anywhere close to that price, but this camera is considerably better than the R100 and there are way more lenses available for it too and at much better prices.
During lockdown i blew the dust off my hacked (TEN YEARS OLD!) GH2 and fell in love again. With the stabilized pancake PZ 14-42mm lens and the little Rode microphone i suggest the GH2 is a better VLogging camera than this one....
Hi there I d like buy a camera to shot video for remodeling houses. I don’t have time or opportunities to repeat the shot. Probably no perfect light, just some job site lights. Which one do you suggest me that cost 1000 or less? Thx
Another brilliant review by Chris and Jordan! One question....rather than adding a headphone jack....why wouldn’t you add Bluetooth pairing for wireless earphones / headphones? Is it because of possible battery drain?
So basically this is a ceap and bad mft alternative to the olympus em5 mark 3 but with better microphones (no ibis / no pdaf / no headphone / no usb c)
Given that the EM-5 III is already a repackaged E-M1 II with tech from several years ago it's pretty safe to say that buying into MFT these days isn't a good idea.

I got the Sony ZV1 based on this review and I made a mistake. My Pany G-85 produces better video, besides the focus there is nothing better about the Sony camera vs the G100. So I'm really interested in trying the G100 camera out and hoping that it can replace my G85. My G9s video is not that much better either than the G85s and I heard from other reviewers that this camara, G100, produces video similar in quality as the GH5.

1990 autofocus? I'm not gonna lie, I like where your head's at Steve. We could save money by including "budget autofocus" but still charging for our best autofocus. Wouldn't the Cripple Hammer wreck our factory though?
Boss you have to think positively. We are Panasonic, we can tame the Cripple Hammer and learn its secrets, maybe even harness its power. Don't you want to know the secrets of the universe boss?
Alright Steve, I'm going to lease the Cripple Hammer for a month. Go make the vlogging camera so we can have a piece of that ZV1 pie. Just control the Cripple Hammer. I don't want it touching the Panasonic GH6 development team.
Don't worry boss we will keep it under control. It can't possibly cause that much damage in 1 month ;)
Thoughts inspired from "Camera Conspiracies" channel and his niche of camera comedy :)

Skip to 5:06 in the linked video for one of the funnier Canon Cripple Hammer moments. Lol.
Micro-usb in 2020?
No phase detect AF in 2020?
No ibis in 2020?
Crop in 4K in 2020
also,
No improved AF
USB 2.0?
A "vlogging camera" that has a lot of drawbacks for vloggers
This to me is just the spiritual successor to the gm5. I was able to find one for around 150 dollars nearly brand new and for the price it is difficult to beat for sure.
best part of the video 6:14
Hahahaha
Excellent video 😮!
Stay cool.
What news?

Does the remote control tripod work with other Panasonic cameras/camcorders with USB port?
The g7 is currently 450 and seems like a better choice so I think they need to go back to the drawing board. With Olympus signing off I wonder if MFT survives.
Wow horrific camera - focus missing, audio not that great (interesting idea), mass crop with 4K, stabilisation really poor. Rather get an Olympus ;-)
Olympus just now sold their camera division... So maybe not that.
...or a Fuji X-A7!
I know, I know, everyone's complaining about the stabilization. But if I ONLY want to do sit-down videos and take pics, would this still be a good choice? 🥺
Did you get it?
@@andreatilli6227 I did not
Panasonic doesn't really expect you to use autofocus in video. That's my experience. Should've taken out the evf and put ibis in.
7:34 "there's no way to monitor audio"
There are adapters that split the audio out of an HDMI port so you could monitor it that way if the HDMI output is active while recording. I have some adapters that I use for exactly that purpose with other cameras.
On our unit, internal recording is disabled when HDMI output is used.
Damn, from 7:45 on, Jordan is just sitting there and the AF is flipping the f out.
I have zero interest in Vlogging. I bought this as a lightweight, travel camera to use with my Oly 45mm and Lumix 20mm. Love the fully articulated screen and overall beautiful design.
What's the shimmering at the top right starting at 7:35?
Jordan: great new haircut :)
You guys are the best when it comes to camera reviews! Anytime I'm after a new camera, I look for you guys and I'm looking for a new one now 🙂
Guys wait, i think we are looking at this camera wrong.
Thx for making the vid.
i want to know whats in your hand? i mean camera trypod or whats the name of this and where i buy ?
What an honest and devastating review! Bravo!
I opted for the Sony after watching the G100 pre-release reviews ... I can't figure why they made this camera ... what market is it for?
as usual love this review, will surely get 1
This camera was clearly designed by one of the Panasonic interns. Oh that AF!!! As a Gh5 owner, I'm now seriously nervous about the upcoming GH6! 😭
Wow, that in-camera audio sounds great!
Does the surround audio records all mics separately? It uses beamforming so it doesn't exactly chooses the mic but processes all the inputs from all the mics - and that could be done in post.
Two thumbs up on Jordan’s new haircut!
How was this a good idea to produce?(the camera) - The show was excellent as always!
Jordan why didnt u try it with venerable Panasonic 7-14/4 lens? It is cheaper, smaller, has image stabilization, and is pretty sharp?
No IBIS seems like a huge drawback for vlogging, but is the 4K crop really a problem? Is there any reason to shoot 4K for vlogging?
Would it be a waste of money to buy this camera just for taking photos? Is there an alternative?
No IBIS; end of discussion.
Could this be a decent upgrade from my GM1? I have missed a good uber-compact Lumix.
If you can dispense interchangable lenses i can recommend the Lumix LX10/15. Really compact, great lens and picture quality.
As always, appreciate the quality reviews
Thank heaven, there will be fewer vloggers. Ugh, Jordan, you're right.
@@youknowwho9247 em5iii is using tech that was well ahead of its time.
@@jf9979 Name one feature that's ahead of the curve for late 2019 to compensate for the fact that you get the worst performing sensor format on the market in MFT.
@@youknowwho9247 it still has the best IBIS after nearly 10 years. Let that sink in.
@@youknowwho9247 the sensor is fine. Not sure what the problem is. It has more than enough resolution for what the average shooter needs, and if you arent sloppy on exposure then clean hdr photos are easy. Not sure what more you want.
I started laughing LOL at the 4:00 mark when you showed the footage. No IBIS hahahahahaha really?
Regarding rolling shutter, how bad is it on this camera?
Great screen and evf so you are aware that footage is bad already during recording. Interesting idea/priorities.
Great review guys!
Great review and very helpful to see and hear. Hopefully Panasonic will pick up on a couple of points you made as some of them are firmware fixable.
Great review
Looking good, Jordan! :)
If I squint a little, I can see Canon m50 written on it......like, what is this supposed to be?
Mozzies or flys Chris? Great video,
thanks for the review; it saved me the headache...i am now leaning towards the Z-V1.
Which part of Calgary you guys video taped the show?
I love to capture camping view and landscape for youtube suggest me which one is great zv 1 vs g100
Why they didn't Bluetooth audio monitoring?
did the AF improved with the firmware update?
I got the Sony ZV1 based on this review and I made a mistake. My Pany G-85 produces better video, besides the focus there is nothing better about the Sony camera vs the G100. So I'm really interested in trying the G100 camera out and hoping that it can replace my G85. My G9s video is not that much better either than the G85s and I heard from other reviewers that this camara, G100, produces video similar in quality as the GH5.
So did you like the G100 or not ?
@@andreatilli6227 Yes, it is an excellent camera and it takes all of my micro 4/3rds lenses. The only thing that I would change is the view finder.
If you want to vlog, get a camcorder. That's what they are made for.
The key defense of MFT remains stabilization... Serious marketing department reorg is needed at Panasonic. G90 with better autofocus (phase detect, continuous) and no crop would have been such a success for vlogging...
Out of curiosity what was this review filmed on.
Panasonic's product vid on this says it has "hybrid stabilization"
this is DOA. Signed: a rather Pana fan. However, I would like to see the audio tech used in newer cameras for casual use
The audio wants a little joy stick to allow you to pick up the sound you want. Anyone remember the ones they had in cars to focus the sound where it suited you?
1:26 O M G !!! Is that micro-usb? Does Panasonic know that there's a new USB-C that came out just 6 years ago? someone send them a memo!
hold on a second, is this the successor of the G90/95? If so Panasonic decided to transform the segment
Shouldn't this be a GX 100 even though the EVF is centralised? It is much smaller than other current G series.
Camera is bad as a vlogging camera but would make for a decent small stills camera with a tempting price
Thanks for info
all the vlogging stuff is a distraction - it’s actually a very good stills camera.
