I picked Songhai as my first nation after Origins, and my god, WHAT a ride! you can really play so agressively, but still make use of a ton of diplomatic stuff if you go down the fetishist path of your mission tree. they're SO flexible, and you can get SO much out of the stuff that they do that its absurd!
13:30 if you got called as a co belligerent every time you accepted an offensive call to arms, then you would be able to also call in your allies so possible infinite chain of calling alliances.
Hey Laith, I had a playthru idea... Play as Kong... conquer Kongo... colonize all the way around to Asia, conquer Hong Kong... then Conquer all of Japan. Its the Kong Vs Godzilla playthru... whats the fastest time you could complete this?
Fall of civilisations has an honest to God incredible, better than most tv quality documentary about the songhai and some west African history in general. Highly recommend
Interesting to see that my generic mission playthrough of Songhai went way better than Laith's playthrough. Morocco managed to almost entirely annex Portugal though, so that helped.
Trust does affect vassalization acceptance! for every 5 trust you get +2 to the vassalization acceptance. Very useful for when you barely cant vassalize a small nation, just curry favors and you are set!
going diplomatic ideas and diplo vassalising all the smaller nations is pretty op.. ive been doing that a lot recently.. war and conquest of big nations, diplo vassalising & annexing small nations.. in fact i think its better than this whole releasing vassals and reconquesting thing and force vassalising.. cos they already like you and its quick to annex them meaning if u get tons of diplo relations & reasonably good diplo rep, u can constantly be annexing & expanding with no ae.. combine with espionage ideas..
force vassalising is indeed the worst way to get a vassal as they will have a negative opinion of you, even doing a full annex of a tag to then release it as a vassal is better because it saves coring costs atleast and it resets the opinion
@@goranpersson7726 i prefer to take one province with their tag, and if im already nearly 100% oe, i take a bunch of extra non their core provinces that puts me over 100% and then i release the opm and feed them those uncored provinces (after forcing religion) cos liberty desire doesnt go up much if they are small and giving provinces makes them happier.. then i do a reconquest on the next war to take their other provinces back.. and they spend time converting provinces to my religion and coring so i dont have to
Fetishism is actually pretty great when you give out the right estate rights like embracing the singular cult allows you to double the effect of your cult. And your heir adds *another* 25%. For example, when I play as Kongo, you can get 106.2% discipline from day 1, before you even get an advisor
i think that taking the national manpower modifier isnt actually increasing the rate at which it replenishes manpower but actually its upper limit, its manpower recovery that increases the replenishment of it
Manpower recovery is proportional to max manpower. If you have two nations with different manpower limit but the same recovery modifiers, they will get full at the same time, but the one with the bigger pool will gain more soldiers per month in sheer numbers. It's just that it also has a bigger pool to fill.
@@overconfidentpineapple8783 oh, i played byzantium and it just felt weird to me that i received like 200 manpower a month with an 80k pool for whatever reason was really making me feel weird about that and that number only changed when i put in the recovery, either i bugged the game or the increase was so miniscule it wasnt really remembered. i really think you should be able to merge merc stacks with armys or atleast when attached all armies move at the same speed even if it was the slowest speed i wouldnt mind but would actually make merc stacks more useful and not just get stackwiped for no reason
They used to be recruited as individual 1k stacks just like regular armies, and they were able to merge with your regular armies. I'm not sure why they changed it, although I do like the fact you have a variety of different mercs to choose from now, cheaper and more expensive.
@@InfernoGuy94 yeah i remember the change i do prefer the new mercs they feel more like actual armies you're hiring and not just an endless horde of free troops late game when money is irrelevant but them not travelling with your stacks and awful unite composition makes them impossible to use and nations that focus around mercs pretty weak
the joke about taking a DNA test got me rolling because I had been told my whole life that I was Irish then I took a DNA test and turns out Im freaking Scottish with no Irish

the laith nation is one of the starting opms you use to form the social streamers
Songhai is genuinely one of the best nations in Africa, I really love playing as it and just dominating Africa
Now try Mossi (you're in for a treat!)
Songhai is really fun war mongering nation, I defeated 3 nations at once, stack wiping them out of existence
25:28 Fun fact: Songhai is also playable in Civilization 5 and the leader in this event (Askia) is their leader in Civilization.
most badass background in any civ game
Same with Korea and Sejong, who rules the country in 1444.
