  • The herd of dexter cattle gets moved to a small meadow next door for a free week of grazing. Using Turbo Wire allows me to put the cattle in areas with no permanent fence in place.

One of the biggest regen farmers here in Western Australia still uses Glyphosate, at around 1 15th of the rate of neighbours, but because their soil biology is excellent they find no trace when testing. Sometimes you just have to do things that don't sit well. Even tillage can have benefits, not continuous every year, helps to release minerals, biology is fragile, but can be restored relatively easily.
I see your steet is still camera shy Rob.

That’s awesome to hear. It’s a give and take. I hope by doing what I had to do and planting what I did it will only help the soil biome and make it better than it had been.

Rob always a joy to see your herd and get an update on their well-being. They certainly look good right now, seems the fly load is not too unbearable. Good job my friend, keep up the good work. Please keep the videos coming. Blessings. 😊

I just had two Dexter calves that I recently bought get under the fence. It took 3 weeks to catch them. Yes, I lowered my fence, too.

Thanks for talking about glyphosate and tillage. I must admit, when I saw last video, my initial reaction was, "Whoa! Wait! Who are you and what have you done with Rob?!?" However, I am right there with you. Sometimes you got to do what you can do and, as my father used to say, let the rough end drag. Just the way you handled the chemical shows how careful you are with it. I am sure it was mixed and applied down to the milliliter of precision! I know if you had more time, you would do it differently. I still would chose to eat the beef from your ranch over anything I could find elsewhere. You take good care of your critters. The calves are looking great! So glad you are posting videos again.

Thank you Ted! A no-till drill/planter purchase will have to be in my future for next year so I don’t run into this problem again. Appreciate the words!

Looking good! What steps are you taking for flies/fly control?

Thanks Craig. Honestly I’m going to try as minimal as possible this year. Could be a mistake but I’m spending this year cutting costs and re-assessing what’s truly needed for the cows. I will be putting out those solar fly traps again because that’s cheap. But won’t be doing fly predator wasps like the year past.
Also, I have not forgot you wanted to know about the mineral mix. Here’s the amounts. I used to add 2-4 oz of Icelandic Sea Kelp into the mix everyday, but like I said I’m cutting costs and I want to see if that’s a supplement that’s really needed or not:
3 oz of Redmond salt with garlic
5 oz of Purina all season mineral
      10-11 oz dried molasses
I’ll put this mix in two or three of those tubs everyday. Certain times of the year they eat more than other times

They definitely do better in milder climates. Maybe a dexter crossed with a more heat tolerant breed like a south poll
