Dexters are fun little kids that listen if you treat them well. I have 3 and a bull I don't have a lot of acrage just 20... So they have been great! We love em! Can't wait for calf's next year!
agreed on dexters, Southdown, few other breeds that are "homestead" breeds. with a good breeding program, they could be back into a working breed again pretty fast. within 5 or 10 years if they use semen draws from other farms that raise their animals the same way. watch out for the dexter udder problem.
1-2 gallons a day can be up to 3 to 4. They're good if you're not looking to have a huge surplus of dairy like you would with a dairy breed such as Holstein, Jersey or Guernsey.
The White Park you talk about is actually a British White. It is not the same as a White Park. White Park have massive horns, British White are polled. It's a mistake that the breed association in America made. British White is a great breed but should never be confused with a true White Park.
John dour dexters don't need good pasture .They are dexters near me in ireland and the land they graze on is very rough ,from rush filled fields on the coast to heather in the hills.

You need to add 10-15 boer goats to your cow herd...way to many unpalatable weeds for those dexters.
Hair sheep would be a less stinky option and they are easier to fence.
Yesssssssssssssss! YESSSSSSSSSSS! Thanks for the clarification & confirmation!

dexters are a decent milking cow. if you get a good breeding program you can sell grass-fed/finished meat bull dexter to milking dexters.
Love the White Dexters.
Do they need a barn at -36 Celsius?

I live in a small town where Angus is king, therefore I am having a hard time finding Dexters. If you don't mind me asking, where did you find yours?
Try Elemental Family dexters in Renton, Washington. They have a website and a great You Tube Channel.

Missing the point. That pasture, on flat, and assuming decent soils, could be so much more productive, and higher quality meat, with good grasses.
