How to Arrange Drum and Bass Music | Minimal DNB Ableton Tutorial [Part 1]
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 тра 2020
- Learn how to arrange drum and bass music with key concepts such as using call and response and various bass phrases to create a story. We demonstrate this with a minimal dnb track akin to music from Mefjus, Enei, Skeptical and Critical Music. This is Part 1 of the series.
To show you how to arrange drum and bass music, I first walk you through key concepts on arranging dance music by introducing one of the most popular drum & bass song structures. We then learn techniques such as call and response, removing certain sounds and adding effects to really create a strong 16 bar segment otherwise called a block. By the end of this video you should be on your way to creating a strong drum & bass song. Stay tuned for part 2 where we use the 16 bar block to arrange the entire song.

WOW you guys are keeping me on my toes, I didn't think we'd get there this quick! Here is the project. I've provided a STEMS project for those that don't have the VSTS, as well as a full project with the VST's. Have fun and let me know what you think! tinyurl.com/stranjah-minimal-dnb-pt1

Epic teacher! Thanks again!
Came for the arrangement tutorial, stayed for the sweet dance moves in the intro.
hahah thank you man!
Damn, dude, this is the best arrangement tutorial I've seen in years. Excellent work on keeping on topic and not straying into composition or sound design.
Agree
That reese bass goes hard, a sound design tutorial on that would be sick.

What is YOUR favourite Minimal D&B Track?
Also, 1000 Likes for Project. 🙂

@@hertzouttahell That entire EP is SICK!

Enei - Northern Noise is so powerful
I remamber when he used to say 200 likes xD
It's thanks to the good people like yourself who support my channel!
I've been mucking around with production for years and have always struggled with my arrangements (Big fan of sound design) and this video has explained it nice and clearly without over complicating it. This is how i've tried to view production i just haven't been able to put 2 and 2 together. Big ups
I just got back into producing dnb after a 10 year break . I've always understood the layout of a song but this is the BEST way I've ever seen it explained . I'm hooked I am eager to learn more !
My misses rather I watch porn instead of producing
Came here for the drum structure, stayed for the sick bass!
Legend! Thank you so much!
Sick tutorial mate!
Glad it helped!
I’ve only just started to learn how to produce since being on lockdown. Your videos have easily been the best source to help me get going. I couldn’t thank you enough 👍🏻
How is the music production going for you now ?
yo man thankyou for the vid, i feel like this is a very important topic to cover as turning your loops into full songs can be quite daunting. very exited for the next part :)
Would make my day if you could do a tutorial on creating something similar to Dominator's sort of 'womp' noise.
Great work. Love the visualisation of the structure, you've managed to explain something I've only been able to express as "ohh man I love this bit!" for about the last 30 odd years of my life. Love the fact you've included the emotive side and explained where it keys in with your blocks. Brilliant stuff dude, keep it up. Great content.
its rare i comment on youtube videos but I've recently started learning about dnb production and your videos are some of the best ive watched, super in depth and you explain your reasoning behind what you do too
These tutorials are simply amazing. I've been learning for years and this back to basics approach is so good as I often don't understand some things that other producers skirt over.
I love the way you explained what a drop is for example
Your work is really appreciated
Maan, you are giving best free dnb tutorials. Love and respect!
Hey Stranjah, this video series is fantastic. I've had to clobber this knowledge together for years from dozens of different sources, but you put it all together in one single tutorial. I don't think people fully understand how many goodies there are in there. Thank you for making this kind of knowledge available to the public.
Your easy to follow guides got me from making classical style music to DnB and I'm working on my first song. Thanks for guides!
Seeing a track structure explained like that is really nice. Super clear.
this guy knows the formula to make a heater in every genre its very impressive, bet alot of young new DnB djs that have been recognized in the uk recently owe alot to your videos
Just want to thank you for this video as I’m just starting and these videos are great for me. Much love! Big up!
the intro alone is sick AF. bro u mad.
thanks!
what a great tut and visuals - been looking for this :) big ups stranja
I mainly produced techno in the past, and always admired dnb producers for being so precise and devoted, but such a complex arrangement seemed too hard to result in fun. Your videos are changing my mind, that's exactly the kind of content map i needed to score the structure of a track without worring about getting lost in details. Done that, I can finally proceed to the steps I love more, like bass design and mixing. Thank you very much, you're such a good educator and you deserve tons of exposure.
Something I did while learning was to load or record a track into my daw , mute it , then build your track using the recorded track as a frame work for my track. It helped me loads
You really have a talent for explaining this kind of stuff. So clear und logical! No unnecessary fluff... Thanks!
most welcome!
You are an inspiration for many ideas
These tutorials are incredible and very cleanly explained
I love your tutorials Stranjah; so we'll explained and executed 👌🏻
Dance moves have improved with every video
Need a tutorial on the Reese and gnarly bass from this vid!
You're an awesome teacher Stranjah!
Jo, Stranjah been binge-watching your tutorials man. seriously loving it, learned alot. Cheers.
This whole series is awesome
Keep the good work on, Stranjah!. Bless.
Yet another top quality video !!
This is fantastic man, totally demystifying electronic dance music. I like how you strike that balance between structure and unpredictability.
Brilliantly explained. STRANJAH rocks
Most of this video is such common knowledge to me but I really enjoy going back and watching this series more specifically. I would love to know more about your theory on "Call and response". I think my music is missing so much of it and you really hone in on how powerful and necessary it is to music and making that " tension and release". thanks again man!
Been reading lots of arranging tutorials. This is the best I have found.. ty
Another steller vid! I'm basically combining elements from all your videos together now. Used the drums from your jungle production kit for this one. Taking lots of time to experiment, make changes and apply techniques I've learned elsewhere to make things sound more my own. The amount of progress I've made since starting out a month ago is not at all what I imagined. Bless you, kind sir!
Dude you are a legend. Been watching your channel for ages. Spiritual awakening brought me here to make some dutty bass on some dutty big speakers 😊. Cheers man everything you put up expands my work flow in the sickest ways. Keep it up
Mate.. I re watch your videos regularly while I work. Its helping me get out of this 5 years writers block
Life awaited video!
Thank's a lot mate!
I keep coming back to this video when I get bogged down in overly-complicated compositions.
Thanks again Stranjah!
that's cool that you do that!
The intro is so sick
thx!

Love this straight forward approach. Thanks!
Another great tutorial - clear and to the point. Good stuff.
